@JKW1127 Yeah, at Ball "a guy" was called out, I didn't know he would become the dreaded "Antelope Douche". Yes, he is talking about the Antelope fucking Douche asshole hobitch. Trey: "Don't know how you do it man" Antelope: "By being a slickass selfish douche". Trey actually did say that at the ball, the Antelope response is just he should have responded! This turned into a rant, sorry. Ball forever!
The guy that Trey is pointing out in the beginning is Aaron Stein. I met him not long after this at WsP and been friends ever since. Out of hundreds of shows I've seen of Dead, Phish and Panic... the only ones I saw from the front row were next to Aaron (but, then again, I'm a taper so....)
I was a student at Plattsburgh State in 1990. Trey used to sit in with the house band at a bar I used to go to. I got to know him a little bit but had absolutely no idea that he would become a superstar. I remember a friend of mine trying to get me into Phish a few years later( around 94 or 95) I saw a picture of them, I pointed to Trey and said " Holy shit, I know that guy"!!
@tomthefunky Was just up there last spring; hasn't changed since 2001. I am sure it's very similar to '91 as well. PBurgh partied like crazy while I was there. I would enter my college days one year after this was filmed. Miss it to say the least.
going to see them at hershey this weekend, they played this at the last show i was at philly 11/24 was the best set ive saw yet hopefully this tour can top the last right
@klitschkofan. That made me laugh. I was at a wedding in vegas and went to see the show at the aladdin. I was soo blasted I wore my suit for three days. Never changed my clothes. Needless to say my balls were on fire from all the rubbing and walking that weekend. Could have used some gold bond and a pair of gym shoes then.
@klitschkofan. That made me laugh. It reminded me of walking from the strip in vegas to the thomas and mack center to see the show. I was at a wedding that day. So blasted I wore my suit for three days. My balls were burning from brushing up against my leg from the walk. Could have used some gold bond and a pair of gym shoes then.
Dude I've had Phish dreams were I am just F'ing waiting for them to go on stage the whole time... got the wife and kid now but ALPINE 2 NIGHTS... I SHALL OWN YOU!!
...Your name is jizz face lover...What do you expect? Your lucky you didn't get jizzed on... Dude, leave trey alone...You disgrace him in your dreams, he has no place there...
I Was at this show, I was to the left of the tapers one of which was a friend who taped the show on DAT. This set literally blew my mind and is perhaps, in my opinion, the best set Phish has ever played. The pinnacle. The beginning of the ending. Starting with this song, "The Curtain" this set displays genius and versatlity. I left the set, went to camp an watched a Black Triangle high up in the sky moving very fast making impossible maneuvers.Ithad a red light on each corner.Anyone else see it?
What a cool thing, actually. The U.S. Military is awesome. It is SO nice to be free have protection to boogie and enjoy shows and work and have fun and stuff. I support those crazy bastards. That´s what I think.
I say the first set should open with either Curtain (With) or Divided Sky and open the 2nd set with YEM. They've got to include Simple somewhere as well, see if Trey can still pull off that emotional solo...
This is my favorite Phish song. An old Dead Head friend of mine who loves Phish but doesn´t like Phish Heads much asked me what my favorite Phish song is. I though for awhile and said, ´The Curtain´. He didn´t know the song. Probably still doesn´t. And I stil havn´t changed my mind. Please, we have no regrets.
This was the best single set I ever saw Phish play. Total focus no throw away songs just classic compositions. Right before this set their was a long intermission where a local orchestra played claude Debussy while the sun set. It was so serene and obviously inspired the band to pull out this set.
@wrombola I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY....THIS SET WAS THE PINNACLE and i was next to the tapers!!!!!!!! I'll never forget that shirt Mike was wearing in the blacklight
I was at this show and I remember Trey giving tribute to that kid for being front-row and center all tour.. It was for sure the Clifford Ball, not Limestone.. Then he put his guitar on vibrate, walked off stage after Harpua, and then my friends and I put triple-action Gold Bond medicated powder on our nutsacks to keep us awake for the 25 hour drive home.. bad idea.
@klitschkofan That made me laugh. Reminded when I was in vegas for a wedding and I went to the show at the aladdin theatre. I was sooo blasted I wore my suit for three days. Never changed barely slept. Anyway my balls were on fire from all the rubbing and walking then. Could have used some gold bond and a nice pair of gym shoes then.
if you mean the VERY VERY END that is Runaway Jim i do believe. its a an old classic with a guaranteed killer rock jam. if you just mean the end of the curtain, then that is just how the songs goes at the end. I kno im responding 5 months late, haha but hopefully you'll get this in your email
Another way to look at it is that Phish got too big. Not amount of fans just the craziness and all. "Lot busts", venues frowning on Phish showing up, etc.
Don't get me wrong, Phish should still do shows here and there, but the old tour heavy phish is sadly gone.
But like i said, they should still bust out deer creek, hampton, gorge, alpine shows every summer or fall.
This song is so cool. It's very unique and unlike other Phish compositions. I've been trying to learn this song on guitar for some time, but the middle section (after the lyrics) has proved to be elusive. This video helps out a lot.

How does a phish concert happen at an Air Force Base? To Josh, Curtain would be great closer as well.
exaSeanT 3 years ago
It was a closed air force base and available for use. It had some great wide open spaces and miles of blacktop to rollerblade on. twas a blast.
