The real problem is that the Autopilot could not be completely disengaged, allowing the First Officer to take immediate control of the A310. The A310 has had similar incidents of unintentional stalls with MALEV Hungarian Airlines and Lufthansa. Not the fault of the Russians. They have never crashed any of their Boeing, Illyshun or Tupolev products by stalling them! Just the Scarebus A310!

That 15 year old NEVER should have been allowed to fly the plane. Period. It's one thing to invite someone into the cock pit to look at everything. It's completely different to let someone fly the plane itself. What experienced, in-their-right-mind pilot lets a child fly a plane. That kid had NO experience (I'm assuming he had very little to none) probabaly didn't understand what each control did, and certainly wasn't experienced enough to handle a crisis. I REALLY hope future pilots

@MagpieLovesCTFxC stop blaming the pilot and trowing accusations. true the pilot is at fault for allowing his kids to sit in the chair, but THE "autopilot" was flying the plane, they were TOO CONFIDENT in it that they couldn't understand what was going on. as long as we make it easier to fly, and more machine friendly the more accidents will happen. I am not blaming Airbus, but the autopilot has made pilots lazier and less responsible towards their job, and THAT IS WHAT WE FAIL TO UNDERSTAND

@harold562 ...isn't what you're saying go back to say that the pilots were irresponsible because of the autopilot? But you're right in one sense: crashes never occur because of one single cause; however, this did start with a bad decision made by the pilot. A series of unfortunate events occurred afterwards which the pilots could have fixed had the kids not been in the cockpit.

I remember my gramma gave the pilots each $5.00 so that I could sit in the righthand seat DURING a cross-country flight. But they didn't change knobs or let me play with the yoke. The pilot put his flight bag on the seat so I could sit higher and see out (and be away from the controls I bet).. That was United Airlines in like 1974 IIRC. I even remember the Captain's name till today!

In 1992 as 1st class passenger with KLM I was allowed to witness 747 flight deck operations -"the flying in" of a new pilot. On this occasion there was the "trainee" pilot, captain, co-pilot and 1st officer. Obviously I was not allowed in the pilot's seat or even to speak, but seated in the cockpit I was allowed to watch quietly anyway for 20 minutes whilst flying from New York to Amsterdam across the Atlantic...

There has really been a decrease in air crashes in the passed years in my opinion.

They were really bad in the 80's and 90's but now the 21st century seems to be alot safer. I don't want to temp fate by saying this (If you belive in it)
