For those of you who are big Paul Rodgers fans, during the period of 1984-86, he and ex-zepplin, Jimmy Page, created the band "The Firm". I'm sure most of you know this, but for those of you that didn't, here you go. The band consisted of Paul Rodgers: Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar, Ex-Zeppelin Jimmy Page: Lead Guitar, Ex-Uriah Heep Chris Slade: Drums and Tony Franklin: Fretless Bass. He was credited with the intro of the Fretless Bass into Hard Rock. If you haven't heard them, give a listen.
@Msdistarr (Continuation) Together they put out 2 albums. Their album "Mean Business" (songs "Spirit Of Love" and "Live In Peace" are amazing and my personal fav's) and their 2nd album "The Firm" which is a great album. It's my understanding that the band never planned to stay together for more than 2 albums, which is a shame because they were so good. You can definitely hear the strong influence of Paul Rodgers in the music. The fretless bass was a signature sound of the band.
on vacation in 1975 driving thru Maine and on the radio- "Bad Company playing tonight in Augusta". I looked at my buddy and said "probably sold out" and announcer says "tickets still available". Augusta was next exit and off we went. They played with Climax Blues Band and although I've seen an awful lot of incredible bands and solos, that concert still stands out for me. Wish I could do it again!!
Im 45 been listening to Free and Bad Co. since around the time I was able to appreciate the music my cool parents played in their cars and at the house. The 70's had the best music to grow up with and thats just what this music did, It made me love music ( or should I say well written music) and I became a musician on top of it all for the sheer love of bands like this.
Hey out there to all the folks that are 50ish. Some younger people say you didn't have to be around back then to appreciate the music and that is very true. But you had to be there in order to experience the feeling of knowing you were witnessing something really amazing happening that would forever change music. You can't explain it. You had to live it. What great times were had. I don't believe we will ever see such a change in music as we did in the 70's and 80's. Just my humble opinion.
What memories! Took my teenagers to see bad company here at va beach 2 yrs ago...after that concert, my comment was....my work here is done! I have showed you the best!
you got that right.. i feel ancient some days but these old songs make it all the better! lol .. we did have it all and truth be told .. no other generation will ever have it so good :)
Bad Company is great! Their songs are authentic, straight forward, classic rock, with down to earth meaning. Give me a record with 10 good 3-5 min. songs rather than a record with five 12 min. songs w/ some off the wall message.
Got to agree with you mrtrendkillfly. we were there. we had it all. thank god i was there. I'll take 50 just to have been there. they missed it. they missed it all.
This song is totally awesome! It brings back many memories. I believe that the music from the 70's is and will always be the best! This is a great band as so many others were from the 70's.
This makes me glad to be 50. For those of you decades younger - I am so sorry. You missed the greates decade ever... We had it all man, We had it ALL.
@mrtrendkillerfly amen brother saw them 2 summers ago in NY (minus Boz RIP) great show lotta memories glad im middle aged wouldnt have missed that era for the world we did have it all but you know what .. some how most of us seemed to know it then and grabbed it all while we could instead of livin in the" woulda coulda shoulda "mode or worse yet the " gee i wish i was around back then" mode great days indeed
I have to agree with you. I grew up in the same generation as you, and we did have it all, and still do. The music today just doesn't cut it with me. It's manufactured, and the kids have no talent, let alone artistry. Look at the music today, just flash in the pans. The gen x'ers are playing our music. Long live the baby boomers, now were in control. :)
@mrtrendkillerfly Like you, I'm 50 as well. We were so musically blessed. We were there to witness the Pioneers of rock create this music with all the creative freedom bands today are not afforded. Music was made for the sake of music and not the almighty dollar. I grew up in San Diego which was a tour stop for every big band and I went to every one possible and there were many. Bad Co. included in '76. The soundtrack to our younger years. What a gift we were given.
@Msdistarr Totally agree, you've hit the proverbial nail dead on the head. Where I grew up, we probably had a little less variety of live shows but Memphis (three killer venues at least) Nashville & even St. Louis provided plenty access to the major tours. (Bad.Co. also in 76, Mem., ha) Indeed we WERE blessed, tremendously & the more I hear the younger whippersnappers complain about their generation's music(almost constantly here on y.t.) the more I realize that truth.Yes, we DID have it ALL.TFP
@kneapoe51 Bad Co. in '76. Weren't they great! What a coincidence. And I discovered a reason it's great to be 50 years old and not 20something again. I would have missed the music!
@lovesozzy So very true. And there was also such a variety. If you think about it, even in the 80's, rock had not been around all that long and was still somewhat new, comparatively speaking. Kind of at the toddler stage. So it seemed that every new band that came out (and it seemed like there was alot of them at that time) brought us something unique and original. Something we had not heard before. And they rocked it and so did we.
@Msdistarr I am around 35. I found Bad Company when I was in my early teens and have not stopped listening. Paul's voice has gotten better each time I have seen hiim live. Amazing! He is going to be in Mesa, Az on oct 9, 2011 and I will be there once again to listen to this amazing voice live!
@jocelyajoyful I'm sure you will have a great time. You said Oct 9th. They sell tickets that far in advance? It's been a while since I went to a concert. I don't think I ever got tickets that far in advance of a show date but then the last time I had to by my own ticket was back in the 80's. The last concert I went to was in the late 90's. For my B-day, my hubby took me to Neil Young and Pearl Jam when they were touring together. Anyway, I'm jealous. Would love to see them again. HAVE FUN
@Msdistarr I hear ya man... I just hit the 50 mark this year... For me it was the Washington, D.C. metro area... Gawd how I do miss bein' able ta pop into the city on any given night n' listen ta the 'live' bands playing in more than a dozen different clubs!!! We were truly given a gift... So, so many great bands, so much talent!!! Being able to turn on the radio n' actually be able to know instantly who we were actually listenin' to!!! All the DIFFERENT n' unique music styles...
@bravospinach Your right. Nearly all of what you heard was something unique. If you think about it, Rock was still in it's infancy in the '70's. It was still so young in it's creation that any music that came out was bound to be something new and unique. There in lies the reason it was a musical era that was so incredible and could never be matched. Something can only begin "Once" and that was what happened in the 60-70's and a smidge of the 80's. Happy 50th by the way!
@mrtrendkillerfly Yeah, you're right. I'm not quite 50 but will be soon. Simpler, easier times, kind, sharing, Bars were not so strict. Remember BYOB @ bar rooms?Started when I was about 16yrs. SO COOL :)
@AnJiE8512128 I hear that, I'm 49 and it seems there was alot less political correctness, no cell phones or internet either. That's what made for simpler happier times.
@rscamaro71 A big Amen to that Brother! I'm 52, it seems at times that with all the changes we've seen that I'm living on a totally different planet! Man......heres to simpler happier times.
@mrtrendkillerfly Man you are soooooo correct !!! We experienced the best moment in time of music , it is so real and pure !!!! great comment dude !!!!!!
@mrtrendkillerfly You don't have to be older to appreciate the decade, the band, the music, the feeling.I'm only 31 & I have seen Bad Co. 5 times already, three times w/ Paul Rogers and twice w/o. The first concert I went to when I was 19, but I owned their music long before that! They are Ledgends, their music lives on forever! And I must say they put on one HELL of a concert! I've also seen Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers multiple times, The Moody Blues, and Fleetwood Mac to name a few...
Silver Blue and Gold is a little before my day but it's a great song and on a bad day, I crank it up and remind the cosmos that MY RAINBOW IS OVERDUE! ok silly, but it works :)
I was 13 first time I heard this, my friend Calvin turnd me on to this because he had wanted someone to understand why he committed suicide, over his wife
remember seeing this band in Nashville back in the late 70's, they were and still are one of my favorite bands, man did this bring back some sweet memories!! thanks for the video.
Both of these songs are just great tunes...the first is of course...makes you wistful..but the second gets you up...drinking your drink..doing yer line..whatever you do..and just having a friggin great time.
In the beginning, I believed every word that you said. Now that you're gone, my world is in shreds. Oh, you loved me & left me. You took all the things that I needed so bad. I'm standing here wondering .... where is the love that I had ?
Give me silver, blue and gold. The color of the sky, I'm told .... my rainbow is overdue.
Everytime I hear this the lyrics pierce my heart like an arrow.I love it so much and yet it makes me so sad I cry ♥ The memories are so beautiful ,but the pain of a lost love is almost too much to bare ♥ Thank you for this post,it's nice to see & hear this done live ♥ msstevie ♥
the story of my life my friends! Three failed marrages, countless relationships that ended badly. So now i sit and am on dialysis. I do have this song however.
@SANDOR51 Yes you do,my uncle is on dialysis and he is awesome,he sings to the nurse's while they do whyever and they love him dearly,.God bless you my friend.
@OLPraine123 He's fantastic. But I believe Burton Cummings is more versatile, and if I had to pick one as the best, I'd pick 'em both, with Burt having a slight lead.
pure art at it's very best, nothing compares to the meanings that this song means. Paul Rogers is a living legend, his voice is not from this earth. Its from a higher power than even he can comprehend. he is a modern day legend.
Memories... The first time I heard this I thought it will be playing when I meet the one special lady that I will spend the rest of my life with. Many many years later it was playing at a party and I looked and there she was.... She's still in my sight 15 years later.
I've had a crush on this guy since High School and still do for obvious reasons. Such talent and presence. His band kicks ass too! So glad to have tix for upcoming show in Sacramento.
@dunkafelic ...Differently from the majority of classic rock singers Paul never wanted nor needed to push his voice range...Plant, Gillan and so many others did and paid a big price for that...IMHO Paul was and still is not only the best singer but also the wisest...
@dunkafelic Really dig this music, was senior in HS when this album came out. So very cool, man, I can almost smell the air from back in the day (columbian gold). very nostalgic. Glory days indeed! I do know one other who's voice is still amazing, not really a classic rocker, but one of the worlds best, and still has the same range at 70, as when he was young, Mr. Tom Jones, he rocks more now than when he was younger, really great on blues
I absolutely in love with this man and have not ever met him! Pure, Raw, Sexy Talent. No noe sounds like him! Purely Distinctive! No wonder Queen picked him for lead vocals!!!
@MrChasmaniac 12 hits of acid...must not have been very good...j/k...lmao the reason you can remember is cause it is embedded in your memory. I remember my first hit of acid...so wtf 1122ss???? j/k
@MrChasmaniac Dude, I'm with 1122ss HOW THE HELL DO YOU EVEN REMEMER THAT?? Well, I hate ACID so, I'm out of your league, and your SOOOOOO, out of mine, I like REALITY.....Have taken trips to Germany, not the kind you took!!!!n All parts of Germany, but never Berlin, maybe a good thing, my Mom is German, been there back and forth since I was 2 years old.......
I am 37 years old. Bad Company, Free and The Firm were all Paul's bands of my youth. His voice changed my life. My father left me very early. He was a singer/songwriter who was chasing his own Rock and Roll Fantasy. As a fatherless boy I found myself singing every song on the radio. And the songs I was singing to were normally Paul's songs. I didn't know it then, but these songs Alright Now and Silver Blue and Gold were all the same guy. Thank you Paul for fathering my own melody. You saved me.
Silver, Blue and Gold ~This song Helped me through so many times in my Life, in fact thanks to Cdz it still is !! Thanks Bad Co you'll always be my fav !!!
we were all together in the woods of berlin in '78. i'd done 10 hits of acid and the world exploded. again we were together the weekend of the rodney king riots and acid and vodka were in the mix in the moutains of georgia. we tripped heavy to paul.
I'm 54, I remember the band well, my first boyfriend, orange charger and an 8 track!! What memories!!!

@mrtrendkillerfly
I totally agree! I was lucky enough to see them in concert in the 80's and it was an experience I will never forget.

Silver Blue and Gold is a little before my day but it's a great song and on a bad day, I crank it up and remind the cosmos that MY RAINBOW IS OVERDUE! ok silly, but it works :)

Mick Ralphs may not be one of the best guitarists, but he's always been one of my favorites, same for Mick Ronson.

(seriously overdue!!)

My favorite Bad Company song. Only complaint I have is it's too short!
I saw them in concert back in 1977 at Providence Civic Center.
Bad Company, Boston (first big concert for them), Heart and Jan Hammer. Doesn't get much better than that and the tix were $10!

I forgot to add Jeff Beck to that line up!

I wish these guys would go back on tour. If Paul Rodgers doesnt want to return, they could always bring back Brian Howe. If he can still sing
Nevamor1 1 year ago
@Nevamor1 They toured last year, I imagine they will do more. I'd rather watch Paul solo than Bad Company with another singer personally.

@OLPraine123 I agree 100%.
brennieb64 9 months ago
@OLPraine123 He's fantastic. But I believe Burton Cummings is more versatile, and if I had to pick one as the best, I'd pick 'em both, with Burt having a slight lead.
Dogheadj 9 months ago
pure art at it's very best, nothing compares to the meanings that this song means.

Cleevus 1 year ago
shouldn't he have lost some of his voice by now? that's unreal. there's no other classic rocker I know of that can still sing this well.
dunkafelic 1 year ago
@dunkafelic ...Differently from the majority of classic rock singers Paul never wanted nor needed to push his voice range...Plant, Gillan and so many others did and paid a big price for that...IMHO Paul was and still is not only the best singer but also the wisest...
gibagang 1 year ago
@dunkafelic Really dig this music, was senior in HS when this album came out. So very cool, man, I can almost smell the air from back in the day (columbian gold). very nostalgic. Glory days indeed! I do know one other who's voice is still amazing, not really a classic rocker, but one of the worlds best, and still has the same range at 70, as when he was young, Mr. Tom Jones, he rocks more now than when he was younger, really great on blues
