  • Does it play identically on xbox?

  • There are control differences and the Xbox version doesn't have as good graphics. That's about it.

  • the only thing i dont like about this series is the fact that i cant attack on your own thats it other then that i love it

  • Best game ever made -3

  • round 4 hrs to get to jedi training

  • bought because i was looking for something new

  • Whoa dude that looks beautiful!!!!

  • Actually SOE had a star wars MMO that was shut down right as this game was announced, so its not the first SW MMO

  • 1. Star Wars Galaxies came out the same year as KotOR.

    2. KotOR is singleplayer only. You're thinking of "The Old Republic."

  • @sheerfe4rstudios LoL. All I have to say to your stupid comment :

  • @CookiesAndGaming which is not nearly as bad as how stupid you are, literary, your pretty god damn retarded.

  • @sheerfe4rstudios Is that why you cant use a comma ?

  • @sheerfe4rstudios Or spell literally ?

  • first rpg?

  • Far from it. First commercial RPG was made in 1974 (Dungeons & Dragons).

  • @liamjd1

The first actual videogame rpg was dragon quest wich was released during the early days of the nes

  • The Ultima and Wizardry series, as well as roguelikes in general and Dragonstomper would like to have a word with you.

  • @DWTerminator

I'd rather stay stupid and keep on beliving that dq/w is the first rpg :)

  • It can be considered the first "traditional" J-RPG so you can at least cling to that.

  • @DWTerminator

Yeah it might have been that and not the first actual rpg

  • People mix stuff like that up all the time.

  • @DWTerminator I consider more of a W-RPG because it allows you to go your own way and is in almost no way linear.

  • Back then the genres weren't quite as well-defined as they are now.

  • graphics are terrible

  • @verbod what would you expect from a 2003 game you dumbass?

  • @verbod graphics do not make gameplay

  • how long does it take in gameplay hours to get a lightsaber or to make it into the jedi order / become a sith apprentice???

  • I'd estimate about 3-5 hours, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

  • can you help me i have KoToR and every time i launch it it crashed

i click on the icon it shows that menu i click launch and the game just crashes

  • If you have the CD version, update it as much as possible (if it's the Steam version it's already up-to-date). If that doesn't help or you've tried it already, then try running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP (if you're on Vista/7)

  • is this a RPG or a MMORPG? and do you need to subscibe for it?

  • Singleplayer RPG. No subscription fees. Just buy the game and you can play indefinitely.

  • George Lucas made star wars not not John Williams

  • I never said that. John Williams did the music for Star Wars. I was referring to that versus Jeremy Soule's KotOR soundtrack.

  • Comment removed

  • Great game. And amazing plot twist.

  • I've just ordered this! Only ever played the second one and i ficking loved it!! So this should be good!

  • I ordered this on amazon a couple of days, can't wait till it gets here!

  • 2.99 Steam

  • is this avalible for download on the xbox 360?

  • No.

  • @Luffymon88 You can get it from Ebay to play on 360. It's better on Original xbox though.

  • Though the PC version is of course superior to Xbox to begin with.

  • @DWTerminator oh yeah i got both xbox and PC

  • hey ive allways liked starwars but was never a fan until now, for some reason i have an erge to want to play a starwars rpg, hence the reason im on here lookin at reviews!

  • This Game to this day is WAY BETTER THAN MASS EFFECT 1.

  • What about mass effect fans? I love the RPG parts of mass effect and the combat is challenging and fun. But if watch someone else play a FULL RPG like this, I cant help but think it looks pretty boring (combat wise, I love a good story in a game). I sorry but the combat looks boring and like you said, there is allot of it. Call me a typical FPS fan (which I'm not) but does it feel like your having fun with the combat, or just spamming?

  • Combat's more strategic in games like these, so you may have to use different attacks and powers against certain kinds of enemies than others. So it's fun if you're the kind of gamer who likes thinking things through rather than running in guns-blazing, but if you're fighting lots of the same enemy over and over it does get a little tedious.

  • @DWTerminator so the combat is similiar to dragon age origins and somewhat like final fantasy 12

  • Nope. Combat's closer to Neverwinter Nights than both of those, actually.

  • @SaintZ42 The combat is a lot more fun then it looks. I thought the combat looked like shit but then when I played it, I thought it was the most well designed combat I have ever seen.

  • @SaintZ42 i kinda agree, though its fun to watch.

but yes i prefer crossover rpgs as well, aka good games with rpg features like mass effect

  • @SaintZ42 It depends on whether you like combat because it's pretty, or whether you enjoy thinking about how to kill an enemy and outsmarting the game.

  • This was a great game, need to make a third. LucasArts would make millions.

  • Lol dude dont worry at that time people didnt know about Crysis... and btw, at that time people werent pussies like now always seing : ''Fuck that game it has no graphics'' people tough more like this : ''Oh my god, a Star Wars game I must buy it''

And this is what they tough after buying it and finish the game

''Oh my god, best rpg ever, best game ever''

Now this is them in the present :

''Fucking hell Kotor 1 and 2 were amazing, love the games, make Kotor 3''

    Got my point? =)

  • The Crysis comparison was hyperbole. Anyway, yes there were people back then refusing to play games if the graphics weren't modern for the time. Plenty of them. Luckily most of them were console-exclusive folks so the PC crowd didn't have to put up with it.

  • Student discount.

  • The Mac OS isn't that expensive. It's the hardware you pay far too much for. Windows OS is certainly expensive if you're not getting some sort of discount (I could get Windows 7 for about $30 for instance), but you can customize your system to your liking and Windows will support that. Good luck trying that with Mac.

  • On a system that costs at least twice as much as an equivalent PC. Mac's ridiculously overpriced and has become this idiotic, elitist, "hipster" crap that makes me despise it even more than I already did.

  • Since a PC vs Mac debate is going on, I'll be THAT GUY who mentions I'm playing KotoR on Linux(Ubuntu to be exact).

All the customization of windows, all the simplicity of a mac, and all the free of open source

  • Except anymore there aren't a lot of games that support Linux.

  • @DWTerminator Except there are a decent bunch, and even the ones that don't "support" it still work on it. Out of my personal collection, I've yet to find a game that doesn't work

  • "Doesn't support" and "won't work on it" are two different things. A lot of onboard or laptop graphics chips "aren't supported" but will work just fine. Besides, you could dual-boot Windows and Linux if you had to anyway.

  • @DWTerminator Dual booting is annoying. I have windows 7 on my second drive in case I ever buy a game that doesn't work but I hate using it. While we are taking about this I want to point this out humblebundle *dot* com All the games that come out in those packs work NATIVLEY on Linux and work on Steam.

And as I said, I'm playing KotoR on Linux. Runs just as well as when I play on Windows

  • Lol, okay man. I have had windows pc's my whole life, and just purchased a mac. Not a fanboy, but I do like change. Maybe that's what it is. Think different for once. But that's all.

  • I used Macs throughout the 90's and up into the mid 2000's... Hated every single one of them. Sure it looks pretty, but underneath that is some pretty bizarre functionality.

  • 1. LOL actually it's far superior to Windows in every possible way. The price isn't a big deal, and the power is fantastic. I don't have to waste 40-60 bucks a year on virus protection either. Macs are perfect for people who have iPhone's.

    2. I know it's a port, I guess I was just distracted by my gorgeous 27" LED screen.

  • You're obviously a Mac fanboy who can't see the truth. In addition, your gloating attitude's that of a small child. If you're going to behave that way, then I don't want you commenting on my videos.

  • @K1NGJ0RDAN1 you can get a pc with the same power of a mac for way cheaper and you can get whatever screen you want

  • Then maybe you should get a Mac then you'd know there was.

  • 1. I can't stand the Mac OS nor the ridiculous price you have to pay for such an overhyped, underpowered piece of crap.

    2. There was never an HD remake of KotOR1 or 2. What you think is an HD remake is actually just the Mac port, which looks exactly the same as the Windows version.

  • Guess I'm buying this on the Mac app store. It should look nice on my new 27" iMac!!!! HD remake!!

  • There wasn't an HD remake.

  • things i did with this game

did the twirly thing with my weapon every time i was just strolling

said "holy shit im the boss "when i got my lightsaber and became a jedi

said"wtf is wrong with bastila does she like me or something"when she needed to talk

said "what a twist"when i found out the secret

    got rid of the "trash"...

    finished the evil ending ...

got 2 years of my life taken away..............

5 days later found out there was a second one.

  • @DWTerminator

Are you talking with someone else or is your mic just jumpy

  • It's just the mic.

  • @DWTerminator You left out Jade Empire.

  • BioWare isn't particularly known for Jade Empire.

  • why original star wars music and not Kotor music in the background? xD

  • Because I don't have the KotOR soundtrack ripped. It's a pretty weird process to pull that out of the game files.

  • Just bought this bitch for 2.49... Ahh, steam.

  • This is on steam for 2.45 for today.

  • @gengijoe i bought it and battlefront 2 for a total of £3.35

    Bargain!!!

  • @swillis1993

    Pure bottled epicness

  • ons team for $2.49 today only

  • This isn't the first star wars rpg star wars Jedi knight dark forces 2 is the first and the best

  • Dark Forces 2 is an FPS with two paths in it, not an RPG.

  • @1tjos you can fight the cat chick before that and you have 2 sabers and you can also go to crystal cave before and get color crystals. btw best game of all time

  • thats the first bit after you become a jedi so how do you have all the lightsabers?

  • Edited the save. Just wanted to show them in action. I'd beaten the game three times before doing this review so I figure there's no harm done here.

  • hey dude i have a feeling that we would get along!! KOTOR is my favorite game of all time! just beating out Oblivion and Fallout 3....yeah im an rpg fan:)

  • Oblivion & Fallout 3 aren't RPG's unless you're using the definition extremely loosely. They're really just open-world action games with pointless stats.

Still, KotOR's easily one of my all-time favorites as well.

  • @DWTerminator but i feel like im playing an RPG when im playing them, like Fallouts VATS system, it lets you plan strategic moves out like RPG's

  • VATS isn't "strategic movement." It's auto-aim for people who are either too lazy to do proper aiming or want to make the game even easier than it already is (which is pretty ridiculously easy, I might add). There's nothing to work for since the leveling system is broken, your character can become a master of nearly everything by the endgame, and the exploration is pathetically weak since all the "dungeons" are the same.

  • @DWTerminator Dude!!! you could so write the sacred cow articles in game informer haha, and what about oblivion??

  • I don't read Game Informer so I dunno what you're talking about.

As for Oblivion, it's just a massive disappointment. Most of what's wrong with Fallout 3 is worse in Oblivion. Leveling system is more broken (it's completely unnecessary to the game and is totally avoidable, while FO3 forces you to level up), the quest design is boring, the dungeons are all the same, the exploration is pointless, and there's no sense of accomplishment at all. However... the story's better than FO3's at least.

  • @DWTerminator sacred cows an article that comes up every once in a while where they BASH and point out all the flaws in prized and acclaimed games, although they havnt ever done fallout or oblivion. But they did do KOTOR once

  • Of course they won't do Oblivion or FO3... those are two of the "best RPG's ever made." (said with EXTREME sarcasm, of course)

I'm surprised they did KotOR. There's really not much that's wrong with that game.

  • @DWTerminator They made fun of the graphics and other stuff. But i like oblivion i put so many hours into it

:/. And neither games are easy when you put them on very hard, it can get challenging

  • Clearly you didn't learn how to exploit the game's generosity on equipment and potions... Even on "very hard" it takes mods to really fix the difficulty.

  • @DWTerminator yeah i never used potions haha i usually would just run into a fight and hope for the best. But i always had a since of accomplishment after collecting a peice of armor i worked hard on and i liked oblivions enviroment. Do you like Mass Effect?

  • Yes I like Mass Effect. Kinda random given the discussion though.

Anyway, Oblivion throws tons of potions and extra gear at you. For instance, you can easily get a silver longsword at level 1 just for joining the Fighters Guild.

  • @DWTerminator so basically you like BioWares big RPG's but dislike Bethesdas completely? seems kind of fan boyish....

  • No. I like Daggerfall and Morrowind. I just don't like Oblivion, Fallout 3, or TES: Arena.

  • @DWTerminator morrowind was way to boring for me. and the landscape was all dreary and just depressing tho, ive never played daggerfall before tho cam out like the year i was born hahaha

  • @TheSepaugh

    Fallout isn't exactly an RPG.

    It's a weird, mixed genre.

  • Fallout 1 & 2 are definitely RPG's. 3 and New Vegas are more like FPS's with barely-useful stat systems.

  • The twist in this game(i wont give spoilers out) is the greatest in a game ever

  • Definitely.

  • @TheSepaugh Better then the one in Bioshock?

  • @superhippie87 yeah i mean Bioshock was an AMAZING game but the twist in this was so unforseen, trust me noone saw it coming until it hits you, and its done in classic star wars form:) gotta appreciate that, IGN put the twist as second of all time(but they dont always get stuff right)

  • Is this a good game to start playing now?

  • It's *always* a good game to start playing.

  • Just started playing this again. Good review btw it's such a good game.

  • Correction: KotOR's not good. It's astoundingly awesome.

Glad you liked the review as well.

  • Does this game play like dragon age? I'm still on the fence. I can get it on the xbox for 15 bucks and play it on my 360 but idk yet. I love dragon age and I looooovvveeee mass effect

  • Not really. There are similarities, but this is a bit closer to Neverwinter Nights in gameplay mechanics.

  • u look exactly like my character did

  • Character customization's pretty limited so that's not particularly surprising...

  • This game has great graphics for a game made in '03...

  • actually KOTOR 1 has a higher frame rate than KOTOR 2 for some reason. i have no idea why obsidian made number 2 and im also wondering why they won't make a number 3 which would awesome. especiialy with good graphics

  • Obsidian made KotOR2 because it's their job. Same with New Vegas, Neverwinter Nights 2, etc. Anyway, KotOR2 was simply released long before it should've been (you can thank LucasArts for that, by the way). KotOR3 won't be made just because LucasArts can make more by releasing several crappy, quickly-done action games instead of a well-made RPG.

  • AL HAIL LORD REVAN! ALL HAIL LORD REVAN!

  • Nice review thanks :)

  • Glad you liked it.

  • Haven't played the KOTOR series yet, planning on playing TOR so i might give the first two a try.

  • TOR is going to be almost nothing like KotOR, you know.

  • @DWTerminator I know that, however it's still in the same timeline.

  • Just keep in mind it's set 300 years after KotOR2.

  • @DWTerminator Again, yes. I know, i didn't just happen across the Star Wars universe.

  • @Karumii

Well TOR is a different category.

TOR is a MMO so it'll be different.

KOTOR 1 is incredibly better than KOTOR 2.

But TOR is good because Bioware only make good games.

  • @WolfytheWolf5667 Yes i know that, you would have to be pretty retarded not to realise TOR is an MMO while KOTOR is simply an RPG.

  • THis game changed my life :D

  • I wish I could play this game for the first time again :)

  • Don't we all?

  • As an addendum, I can't stand RPG's as a rule - especially ones which get too bogged down in pages of maths and stat points - I do that stuff for a living dammit! I want a break. This one doesn't do that; it implements this stuff well - allowing people like me to focus on the story, characters and combat. But it is all there, meaning you can fiddle with it if you want. So even non RPG fans might like it!

  • Actually non-RPG fans probably still won't like it just because they'll still see it as "too complicated."

Also, I *hate* math and still love playing RPG's. Makes perfect sense. Anyway, for clarification, most RPG's (video games, at least) are fairly easy to figure out without worrying about stat calculations and such, regardless of complexity of the underlying mechanics. All the calculations and such are done behind the scenes so you don't need to worry about them.

  • @tsujigiri15 Bioware is really great for this stuff. You would really enjoy the Mass Effect series if you like this game.

  • isnt this an online RPG?

  • i wish i could buy this of xbox live games on demand but all i can find is halo 1

  • Still readily available on PC. You Xbox gamers have it rough with actually getting great games.

  • @DWTerminator hey i could name a couple of great console games pc users cant play...but im too sad over the fact there arent more games like this on xbl games on demand

  • I could name plenty of great games console players can't play. It works both ways.

Anyway, I see your pain. It certainly would be nice to have a lot of good games on XBL Games on Demand.

  • @5zaide the first xbox version works on the xbox 360

  • @fallout7311 i might buy it off ebay

  • @5zaide i got mine at my local gamestop

  • the crappy thing is that i cant play this on xbox 360. it is backwards compatible but has a lot of problems!

  • That does suck. Looks like yet another reason the PC version is superior...

  • @DWTerminator if i had an xp computer i would buy it. what a shame. i have windows 7 and a vista. but sadly, i have an xp but i rarely use it and it is slow. it also needs speakers. i think i might just buy an original xbox.

  • You can always try running it in compatibility mode for XP on Vista/7.

  • Wow, in 2:07, is that a lightsaber with the Mantle of the Force? I didn't know, you could get that this early in the game >:]

A very nice review, I agree on most of the things you said. I love the story, and the plot twist really got me. I love the planets you can visit too, and the characters and... I love everything about this game...

I bought it on Steam when it was cheap, but I owned it before. Never got that far though... Too bad they don't sell KotOR2... I want to play it now, too...

  • Standard cyan crystal, actually. It's a mod and I just gave myself a bunch of lightsabers through a save edit (I've beaten the game 5 times already, just FYI).

And KotOR2 is a pitiful follow-up. Had it been finished, it might've actually supplanted KotOR1. It really is a pity that they don't sell it on Steam though.

  • dark side is better in my opinon cuz u get kick butt force powers

  • Yes... but the ending isn't as good.

  • @DWTerminator so true i never beat it but i saw the ending on yputube

  • Glad you liked it.

  • id like to point out the fact that he has so many lightsabers, as at that point you only have 1 single & one double-bladed sabers,

  • I'd like to point out that I've finished the game 5 times and have mods installed. So what if I give myself some extra lightsabers for the sake of the video?

  • @DWTerminator ok, thats fair,

    i do apoligize

  • 's no problem. I understand how people get in a tizzy if someone uses a cheat code or something. I don't use cheats until I've completed the game though.

  • Thor-Axe....lawl

  • I went oh dude that looks beautiful in my mind when I saw the ocean on Manaan

  • @clamz94 When I want to blow my mind, I will just look out at the ocean on Manaan, I still love the graphics

  • are you playing a re-make of this game? i sure dont remember being able to select the attack you want to do right under the enemie's health bar

  • Nope. Normal KotOR PC version. Perhaps the Xbox version controls differently?

  • @DWTerminator One of my favorite games all all time. I had so much fun with this. Best Star wars game all all. The best part is the story. I felt like I was watching a well writen movie rather than playing a game story wise. The grahics are not spectacular but not bad. It doesnt have the choices that KOTOR 2 has in terms of amount of force powers and the amount of equipment you can equip but its story and interesting characters like the homicidal HK droid and the other cool sidekick characters

  • KotOR2's gameplay is better, but KotOR1's story and characters are superior. Makes me wonder what might've happened were Obsidian allowed to actually finish KotOR2, since I actually prefer playing that to KotOR1.

I still rank Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight as my favorite Star Wars game though. KotOR's arguably second (Jedi Outcast comes pretty close, followed by TIE Fighter).

  • @DWTerminator

the PC has practiacally the same graphics as the other Xbox KOTOR. Except the remake...

  • PC's a bit sharper, and has the advantage of mods that can make the game look better.

  • i loved this game when i was 8, but i could never re-buy it after my first xbox broke, then my first xbox 360 half a month after it came out, but now i got a better one :D

  • Best. Game. Ever.

  • nothing lyk crysis?!, why would u even compare this masterpiece to that pixel steroid? yeah well that's what anyone would do nowadays but that doesn't mean u should as well, perhaps it is more justifiable to compare mass effect to crysis, good review btw, too bad kotor 3 is non-existent

  • 'Tis called hyperbole.

And yes, it sucks that KotOR3 is dust in the wind. Instead we get TOR. Even though it's BioWare making the game, an MMO set 300 years later is NOT KotOR3. -_-

  • @DWTerminator while I agree its not kotor 3 that doesn't make it bad it looks really good

  • @dragonbukid

Crysis has better graphics...I just compared the two...OH NO!!

    U mad?

  • @spudnick3490 i don't think understand the difference between a logical complain and a mad protest, i was just complaining about the absurdity of the comparison (duh), it's like comparing a painting against a 3d model, yet the painting holds deeper meaning than 3d, it's called criticism, spelled c-r-i-t-i-s-i-s-m-ur-a-troll.

  • @dragonbukid

    LOL

    See?

You really are stupid...You can't even comprehend the true meaning of my comment...

    Lol u mad nigger?

  • @spudnick3490 LOL, read through my comments again and you may yet redeem your stupidity, my 2nd comment implies that im not mad, sorry if you couldn't stand up to my level of education, i understand there are plenty of brainless idiots like you in the internet, and i feel sorry for that, and let me spell it clearly for you, y-o-u-a-r-e-a-t-r-o-l-l, next tym try to google it, oh wait, you want me to teach you how to? poor child, your parents must've had a hard time raising you
