this show wold have been cool if i wore alive in 1983. man i just read this on Wikipedia it was onley canceled after 13 episodes. they cold have done more seasons
I watched all 13 episodes of this show and I think its pretty clever and good. John P. Navin, Jr. is one lucky guy to have Ann Jillian messing with him. Its too bad this show didn't get another season. Episode 11, Life With Grandfather, was a really sad episode.

Ann Jillan was always a wanna-be, trying to compete with more beautiful blondes like Loni Anderson and Farrah. Quite obnoxious actually in the few interviews she actually GOT. Never got the magazine covers, endorsements, or interviews like the big female stars of the 70s and 80s.And she was NEVER as relevant! Kinda like the poor man's Carol Wayne lol!
@coolhandrob you are full of it! where were you living under a rock? Ann Jillian was a major star! Wake up ax to grind - was your girl the tub? hahaha
I also remember that Jillian played In Mr. Mom with Micheal Keaton. It was so weird that she played a brunette, only so she wouldn't clashed with Teri Garr, who was looking her looks big time during this period. She sort of stole the movie as vixen neighbor Joan. That scene in the male strip joint was hilarious in a 80's kind of way.
@kxx46 This was one of those"bubble" shows where despite struggling ratings, if the network like the show enough, they would renew it.But they didn't. They probably thought this show didn't fit with their wholesome family image so they canned it and gave Bill Cosby the ball and the rest is history.
I remember this show. It came out a year before Cosby. I only liked the show because of Jillian. She was hot, and way more talented than Suzanne Somers. It's too bad that cancer halted her TV career.
I was in my early 20's when this show came out and it only served to cement my love of Ann Jillian (second only to It's A Living / Making A Living). I loved the theme as well as the show itself. Ann played the part beautifully and the scripts were well-written. In a way I would consider myself a bit jealous of John Navin's opportunity to work with Ann. FYI Ann is now a motivational speaker who talks about various subjects including her personal battle with cancer. Thanks for the memories!
wow, you can find anything on YouTube!! My name is Jennifer and I was only 7 when this was on TV in 1983. I thought it was so cool to have a show named after me! :-D
It has Sandy Dvore touches all over the intro. The character's face, the title, graphic design, etc.. So 80s, I miss it! Ann Jillian is a breast cancer survivor and still looks great for her age. Glenn Scarpelli is now an independent mid-Western director. John P. Nevin left acting in the 90s, so I don't know what became of him.
When I was growing up in the 70's and 80s I often used to tape TV themes and even episodes of the show on Audio cassette and JSH was one of them. I thought I was the only one who remembered this song/show! Thanks so much for posting. Id Love to see more Ann Jillian these days.(I confuse her name with Jillian Anderson(Scully from the X-FILES)..lol
I remember back in the late 80's Ann Jillian was Diagnosed with breast cancer and she had to have a double mastectomy. But She beat it and Im so happy!
I absolutely loved this show. NBC never gave it the chance it deserved. I also fell madly in love with Alexandra Powers, the girl who played 'Cassidy' on the first episode.
Thanks for posting. I remember watching one or a couple of episodes back in the day. Perhaps TV Land or Dejaview should bring this one back, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it, since they seem to like repeating the same old clunkers over and over.
I can not even believe that someone posted this. I literally have not seen this opening since it was on network television. WoW. What I actually recall most, was the HUGE build up that Ann Jillian was getting at the time. There were radio ads that were promoting the hell out of her. Sadly, she never quite caught fire. A shame, really.
@shaggycub She got breast cancer and left acting to help other women with breast cancer. She also took care of her elderly parents, and had a child, a son i think. She loves being a mom and last I heard, she is a happy, healthy woman doing good for others. I'd say she did rather well for herself. But like you, sadly, I wish we had more of Ann Jillian to watch - she could do it all - sing, dance & act. she and Bob Hope came to the Gulf on a USO show to entertain us troops there one Christmas.
This series was from 1983. But if you watch it, it does had some prophetic parts, especially the theme song itself. Seems like an echoe to Anna Nicole Smith's life and this is from 1983.
I wish this was on dvd. I loved this show as a kid. I always wanted to have a ghost in my room like this. But it would have been a lot differnt story. Thnaks for posting it
I loved this show as a kid. Yeah, it was a rip off of Topper, etc, etc. It was still funny and a decent show. It had a cult following. It needs to be on DVD. There is a thread over at Shout Factory to try to get them to release it. I would love to see the whole series again. Ann, you were great in this!
i am from the philippines, and this is one of the best sitcoms i love to see over and over again. i do hope there are DVD copies of these episodes. and the song is great!
I know, some people will scoff at us for liking this series. True it wasn't The Mary Tyler Moore Show (came to mind cause the mom on this was actually Georgia Engel, aka Mrs. Ted Baxter), but hey, we were '80s kids...all we needed was anything that seemed funny or exciting, and maybe had some character with cool powers or a car. And if we were boys, yes, a pretty woman, which Ann definitely was/is.
Someone get Shout! Factory or some cult TV specialist on this, stat.
Did you all know that is Ann Jillian's voice on the track along with Joey Scarbury. Ann and I loved this series best of all that she did. NBC just had no room on their schedule that year so they only played it 2 yrs. Their other shows were also doing well. Today NBC would LOVE to have a tv seris that could get a 28 share of the audience..
Does anyone have any clips of the show? i used to love this show even though it was on for a short time. i kept thinking back to a show where the lady was invisible or something and I knew it was Ann Jillian but i forgot the character was a ghost lol/ thanks for posting.
This brings back memories. I remember loving the show mostly for Ann Jillian. Sadly, it was yanked after a short time. I hope it is released on DVD at some point.
Joey would call her by her last name "Farrell" in the show. I still want to make ghost love to Ann Jillian and it's been over 20 years now. This show and It's Your Move with Jason Bateman were my favs as a kid. NBC back then would promote, "Let's all be there!" Well I was there and they still screwed me over!!
Oh, wow! Jennifer seemed like it was on forever to me, maybe because it carried over from 83' to 84'. Why didn't the show make it, didn't it win an Emmy for something?
Yes, it was nominated for a Primetime Emmy and 3 Young Artist Award, winning 1(for John P. Navin Jr., who played Joey). But the reasons why it was canceled, take it away Wikipedia:
"Although the show had mixed reviews and a tough Friday night timeslot (its competition was The Dukes of Hazzard on CBS and Webster on ABC), it attracted decent ratings. The show even cracked the top 20 during the summer of 1984. Alas, it was not enough to guarantee a second season."
Was the opening credit faces of Jennifer and John done by the same person who did the opening credit drawings of The Young and the Restless in the 1970's-1980's?
It does look a lot like Sandy Dvore's work, but I can't find any information to prove it. Maybe JustinInAtlanta has the closing credits and can verify?
Very cool!! Ann Jillian is the best. Please post more Ann if you have anything. The performer of the theme song was Joey Scarbury (who also performed the theme song to "The Greatest American Hero").
Sorry I got confused that the singer of the "Jennifer Slept Here" theme sounded like Alan Thicke, who sang the theme songs to many TV shows such as "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Wizard of Odds".
