  • "5 men or women fighting for the protagonist's affections or interested in protagonist".

This is typical in many Cinderella-type (Mary Sue / Gary Stu) stories. I must admit that before watching the You Are Bella series of videos, I made the mistake of writing protagonists like that. This is the series that has make me want to go back and change that. Thank you so much. xx

  • "Our protagonist, ladies and gentlemen."

    Favorite. Quote. Ever.

  • I've been hearing about the books since I was a young teenager, but it's only now, once I've become a college student, that I've actually started reading them. And yeah, there is a lot of wish fulfillment. Breaking Dawn in particular is so big on wish fulfillment that it's hard to take anything that "happens" in it seriously.

  • did you seriously read the whole series? how? i can't get past chapter 4 of the first book without seriously wanting to cry from pain. it's awful. ):

  • 2:57 - 3:04 EDWARD IS AN ADULTERER

  • The instant popularity has always made me mad about the book. I've gone to three different schools so far in my life, two transferring in either near the end of the school year or before the end of the first semester. Even the one where I started at the beginning of the year started out horrible lonely and being treated as an outcast. It may be easier for someone who is more openly social, but Bella claims to having never had friends so it just makes the instance exception more improbable

  • WAIT, wait...wait. I am only familiar with the movies, and have not (yet...*shudder*) read the books. Listen to 3:02.

That is just...DAR HEEL? Which book was this? That sounds so ridiculous that there HAS to be more to that statement! The idea that something like that could exist in the book and not result in massive abandon-'ship or fan-cannon-denial...just...

  • don't listen to miss3ffron. they're clearly a troll.

Shmeilia, i must say, you clearly put a lot of effort into YAB. the series shows you're a very logical thinker. since you made these videos so well, who cares if you have a boring voice? i still like watching them.

(your voice is the only possible thing i can think of that might come across as boring, just saying)

  • NO U GUYS AND GURLLLZ R WAYYY TO FREAKN OBBBBSSSSSSED ABOUT THIS CRAPPP! OKAYYY! AND NO ROBERTS NOTTTTT THE HOTTTESTTT GUY ON THE UNIVERSEE!! WOOOOW ITS A BOOOK AND A MOVIEEE! THIS STUFFF GOES WAYYY TOOOO Farrrrrr!

  • yep every human except bella are trash and mud and edward is by farthest the most perfect male in the universe......seriously, why does meyer tries so hard in makes u believe that being a vampire or bella when she was human are gods and everything else is trash? if you truly love someone, you don't offer another guy you have sex with the one you love, this is stuupppppppiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid (not your video twilight in total ^_^)

  • So if a white man is the most perfect male, than what does that make the black man? Bearing in mind that any deviation from perfection equals imperfection.

  • @Ayatron34: Ask Stephenie Meyer. Or better yet, read the book of Mormon. Interesting stuff, that.

  • @shmeiliarockie

That's the thing about dropping the word "perfect". Perfection doesn't mean anything unless it's attached to a criteria. Because Meyer used a meaningless word with no criteria, it leaves the door wide open for people like me to make all kinds of ugly accusations about Meyers conscious or even subconscious intent in using that term.

Can you imagine if a twihard dumped her ethnic minority boyfriend because he didnt look romanesque like Edward?

  • Gotta say. That Port Angeles scene definitely proves Meyer has never visited the locations she uses in her books. Nooooothing happens in Port Angeles.

  • You-are-awesome, this-video-is-awesome

  • Learn to spell properly, misschatspeak. Your writing alone indicates why all Twilight fans should be forced to listen to audiobooks of Louis L'Amour and watch hardcore vampire porn. for a year.

  • My boring what? My boring shirt? My boring sandwich? My boring art history text book? That isn't even a full thought...

Or did you mean *you're*, as in "you are"? Your bad grammar has dampened any impact of your oh-so-cutting jab might have had. Care to try again?

  • @KittzykatForever

    don't feed the troll

  • @Terrorkarel Lol

  • I'm sorry, I have to ask. What book and what page does Edward promise Jacob all the sex he wants with Bella if he talks her into having an abortion?

  • Breaking Dawn, Chapter 9: "Sure as hell didn't see that one coming" (Sorry I don't have the page number. I don't own any of the books.)

"I don't care about anything but keeping her alive," he said, suddenly focused now. "If it's a child she wants, she can have it. She can have half a dozen babies. Anything she wants." He paused for one beat. "She can have puppies, if that's what it takes."

  • i love you so much right now

  • this is awrsome :) i really do aperciat your hard work on all thses videos! hopefuly those die hard twilight fans will open their eyes and see the truth!

  • Edward says WHAT about letting Jake to WHAT to Bella as often as he wants WHEN!?!??!?!?!?! This book series is SO wrong... the more I learn the more it is just wrong, wrong, wrong! And thirteen year old girls are reading this! An 8 year old girl asked Rob to BITE her!!!

  • smeyer REALLY needs to watch these vids. She is so airheaded, she assumes everyone likes her books. She just has to see these vids, I'm sure she'll be ashamed of WRITING them, just like many haterz are ashamed of once LIKING them.

(I never liked the twilight series, but I've converted many twilight fans to haterism)

  • When I read "Twilight", I felt bad for Bella when I saw her parenting her parents. That kind of situation can be very damaging for a child, and I was expecting to see what kind of impact that would have on her as a character. This is when I still expected her to be a character, of course. It never occurred to me that this might be an appealing or enviable circumstance for a teenager. How sad.

  • I'm so ashamed, I once liked twilight...

    Now I'm a complete hater.

  • GENIUS!!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!

  • actually, this did happen to a girl who recently came to my school. first day, everyone was onto her, because ALL the guys thought she was hot and all the girls were jealous so they acted like her friends. weird......but great vid, again. you make all the right points about that shit called twilight.

  • XD I think this is by far the most humorous YAB video of yours yet.

I'm sixteen, and read Twilight when last year I believe. You have been dead on with the wish fulfillment, as well as everything else in your videos. When I first read it, even though I did realize the lack of literary quality, I still loved it because of that very thing. To this day, I'm ashamed that I enjoyed it so much. D: It's sad; vampire fiction was ruined for me because of Twilight.

  • I still have my copies of Twilight and New Moon... I moved rooms and it burned me to touch them again.

I loved Twilight... but I started doubting it around Eclipse or Breaking Dawn. Then after the movie it all came crashing down for me.

I hate it now. I'm embarrassed. XD

  • Same here.

I used to have a poster of Kristin and Rob hanging up in my room.

Since my love all books(an the fact that I paid about $80 for this crap) prevents me from burning the books, I have nowhere to put them.

And my Aunt got me a Twilight calendar.

and I have to use it so that I can make her happy.

I get to be reminded that I fell into one of the stupidest fads on the planet for a whole entire year.

    Lucky me. D=

    -Bree

  • I feel EXACTLY the same! I loved it too...but I just couldn't finish Eclipse (the only book i've never finished)...i'm ashamed that I was once proud to be a twilighter! (not a twitard...I respected others opinions!)

  • I just nearly peed myself at that last line about Edward trying to convince Bella to have an abortion and letting Jacob have all the sex he wants with her. Well done.

  • @GaiasFashionAssassin As if I didn't have enough of a reason to hate what Meyer has done to Jacob... You guys give me another... Now I have more incentive not to read Breaking Down or Eclipse...

  • Apparently Twilight really IS a fantasy novel since it's completely unrealistic to have every single guy in school wanting to get in your pants...

A good book on a girl getting what she wishes for and wishing she hadn't is "The Wish" by Gail Carson Levine. A good read on the dangers of wish fulfillment.

  • Gosh, Bella really is arrogant and ungrateful, isn't she? In "Midnight Sun," Edward often describes her as utterly selfless, modest, etc. But really, her actions and words are selfish and conceited. Facepalm @ Meyer.

    In other news:

    You are stunningly beautiful.

    That is all.

  • Aww, thanks. *blushes*

Edward only describes Bella as selfless because he can't read her mind. We, the audience, know better. The only time she thinks of anyone besides herself or the Cullens is when she thinks her mother has been kidnapped. And even then we get the "it's noble to die for someone you love" speech that makes even that all about her.

  • Bella Sue.

    Bitchy Bella...

  • thank you so much for this!

  • 'She didn't want to set a bad precedent.' That reminds me of my bratty little sister, she does the same thing.

And is it just me, or would these 'modest' sues be less sueish if they acted like they knew they were beautiful? Sure, they'd lose sympathy points with anyone who has ever questioned their looks, but Bella might actually be a believable character if she just acted like the conceited, stuck up, brat we all know she is.

  • That's true. I have a mind to write a fanfic that has Bella acting like a conceited, stuck-up brat. As soon as I get up enough energy to....

  • I need to read the passage about the car, where do you get your PDFs?

  • oh, & as a sidenote. like Williano08 said i really like your hair in this vid. very nice.

  • It's common to have a harem situation in novels like these. you know, where the protagonist-who usually doesn't have a boyfriend- has a bunch of guys interested in her. usually the author has the sense to limit it to 3 guys for realism sake & honestly 3 is pushing it.

but here we have 5. 5 guys would date her in a heartbeat-those of them that have hearts that beat.

how am i supposed to take this seriously? the best fantasy is strongly rooted in reality & this sure as hell is not.

  • Just a technical thing: if it's a bunch of guys all after one girl, that's called a reverse harem. A true harem involves a bunch of girls after one guy.

  • On to part 2!

    This was good. ^_^

  • You look particularly nice in this video! Love your hair!

  • Yeah, being perfect is soooooo hard... Woe be to Suebella......

  • That is so true!

  • facepalm
