Do something or don't do something, wear it or don't, but quit trying to justify what you do, what you say, or who you are by making something pseudo-politically correct. The change started with the whining and got worse over time. This was years ago and they've all since reverted back to some kind of "non-emo" fashion and personality (the music endured though). None of them are proud of that time. I've also met a lot of other people most would call "emo" judging by their dress and musical tastes. I've gotten to know some to varying degrees, and unfortunately, the same personality I think people complain about prevailed. Not sure how to defend that.

The clothing style isn't all bad, but the 'emos' that you're referring to have given a bad name to anyone that feels like wearing, let's say, black and white stripes & non-prescribed glasses. I'm not under this stereotype in any way, shape or form, but I feel like they need a little justification. This is what a few over-dramatic teenagers have done to the entire 'culture.'

I would love to agree with you. Also, I understand that the personal experiences of one person should by no means be used to form a generalization. That being said, I've known people, around my age who once weren't "emo". By this, I mean they didn't listen to the music, didn't wear the clothes, etc. Once they found people who were "emo" to hang out with, they began wearing the clothes, listening to the music (which isn't necessarily bad), and started the personality change...(continued)

The change started with the whining and got worse over time. This was years ago and they've all since reverted back to some kind of "non-emo" fashion and personality (the music endured though). None of them are proud of that time. I've also met a lot of other people most would call "emo" judging by their dress and musical tastes. I've gotten to know some to varying degrees, and unfortunately, the same personality I think people complain about prevailed. Not sure how to defend that.

Emo is actually a genra of music, it's roots are the same as goths. This is goth punk riot girl. Not emo...not even remotely the same sound. Emo,it's joy division without the soul. Corporate and bland. You want emotion, listen to people who died by Jim Carroll.
