@Daized2009 Like I said in my original reply. Females have 5 leaves. Males have 7 leaves. Cloning is typically your best solution once you get a good female plant. I suggest checking online or depending on where you live your local headshop for good growing materials and cloning solution

lol Im not an amature m8. I know how to clone etc, as for the leaf thing I think you aint been growing from very long :) . The '5 leaf' thing is absolute rubbish the only way to tell is by pollen sacks or flowers. There are other ways requiring a microscope but I wont bother with going into that (besides its not reliable). Ive got 3 mother plant atm, just wondering which to clone. Last crop was all 3 (6 clones), some had 5 leaves, some 7 (all female)

the amount of leaves has fuck all to do with the sex of the plant if you want to call it that, if there are pistols then you have a fem regardless of leaf amount occasionally fems have been known to turn hermie and display both sets of reproductive anatomy but this is very rare.

@komaki119 No actually producing sets of repro is very very common it doesn't take much stress for a plant to produce male parts and give you some seeds. light leaks and to much heat on plants is most common reason for this some growers do this on purpose so they have some seeds so they can grow more eh.

Ive been using i 90 w led and two 2 foot high intensity flourecents and the heat output is minimal and the plants are doing great! I will switch to a 600 w HPS for flowering,this system works really good for me.

You can get bootleg 90 watt UFO tri-band LED grow lights at e-bay, amazon etc. for under $200, some have red white and blue LED's while some use orange LED's instead of the white ones, great for big flowers but for Veg & clones combine LED grow lights with florescent or other wide spectrum lamps, this kind of lamp is new to me ( 2nd crop ), I'm used to Halide but the heat, fire and radiation exposure risks are definite cons to the pro's of low heat & way less power & FAT STICKY MEDICINAL BUDS!

Should be 3:1 blue to red for veg and opposite for Flowering I believe... White LED's waste most of their energy in spectrum unusable by the plant. You'll get growth, but you won't get those bigger buds or shorter stems you were looking for. Though I'm not an expert

the motive for using LED's is not to be cheap. its because in countrys (eg UK) they fly over your house with a heatcam and raid you if they detect excess heat. seriously ppl actually have been raided for having poor roof insulation. so with LED's you dont have that worry

for your plant to grow big and strong it needs 16hrs of light and 6 hrs complete darkness, as for the feed it is going to kill the plant if you make it to strong, use ionic grow ,ionic bloom is used for the flowering then the last two weeks of flowering you use ionic boost, happy growing dude

no not currently but in the future they will be. The best lighting for growing any type of plant indoors are HIDS (High Intensity Discharge Bulbs) i.e. Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium bulbs.

I was thinking of cutting a 2 litter bottle, putting the plant in between, taping it back together. Make some air holes in it, and just let it grow as much as it can crowding itself in the bottle. Will it work in keeping the plant small?

What LED light, specifically, are you using?

Alright, lets take a look at the numbers for blue LEDs. We'll use the Philips Luxeon K2 with TFFC as an example. The blue does 30.6 @ 1A to 35 @ 1A and it uses between 3 and 5 volts DC. Optimal voltage is 3.65 but we'll use 4. So that's 4 Watts for 35 lum. That's 7.65 to 8.75 lum per watt.

Red LED's are 36.93 to 42.86 lum per watt.

I think I seen a 45 watt do 3000 lum for CFL. That's 66 + 2/3 lum per watt.

Keep in mind the CFL gets reflected more than the LEDs because of wavelength.

Since they are LED's, you can pretty much put them on top of the plant (low heat). You can't have LED's that far away from the plant. Blue LED's suck last I heard. Prolly best to use fluorescents until they are matured and ready for red light.

As for michael72191's comment about the light being further away. That only works with infra red light.

Do leds work or what? I'm considering growing my own and the led vs HPS argument has no conclusions. I've searched for two hours now seeking a definite answer but no one has yet provided this.

I see some great potential by using LED's.

Firstly, less heat build-up. Secondly power consumption; you don't need to be a brain surgeon to realize 600w HPS will use much more power than say, a 70 watt LED light. However, the light intensity is much less with LED therefore will the bud yield be much less?

on ebay they claim that a 64w led system is equivalent to a 600w hps. So with that said would one 16w led be better then buying a 150watt Hps? considering i found somewere they are the same price?
