  • I have a question for you relating to fixing some v-e-r-y expensive electronic equipment, and it seems like you may be a good person to ask. Can you send me a Youtube message regarding this? And then I'll go into more detail..Thanks for your time!!

  • People in America still repair televisions? Very informative and useful.

  • @rhblakeman THANKS I REALLY APPRECIATED!....

  • What's the make/model of that ESR tester you have in the video. You probably mentioned it in earlier comments but I'm not searching for it ;-)

  • @rhblakeman My cap tester is the cap 88 made by electronic design specialists. The cap wizard may be a better choice. The blue ESR is also suppose to be a good choice.

    Dave

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs Thanks Dave

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs Hi. Are you going to do any videos on CRT TV repair?

  • @TehUberCyberBeast I thought about doing some videos on CRT TVs, but considering they are being phased out I figured it would be best to stick with the newer sets.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs Okay.

The reason I asked is because there are retrocomputing and gaming communities who still use CRT TVs today for use with their old computers, videos games consoles, and arcade boards - and even people who don't use CRTs any more still might find it interesting.

    Anyway, thanks for your reply.

  • @TehUberCyberBeast With the CRTs many shops have closed and gone out of business not transitioning into LCD, plasma and projection. Some CRT sets have a problem with lack of available parts like flybacks, proprietary chips, etc. I gave up on CRT monitors and TVs 10 yrs ago and sold my high voltage stuff and focused on the PC, laptop and printer repairs and occasional TV and monitor repair. Even LCD monitors aren't worth repairing when parts and labor exceeds cost for replacing

  • @TehUberCyberBeast Only the few remaining that specialize in retro, antique, etc repairs are the ones making money. Not enough units left to keep lots of shops going full time with CRT based repairs and parts, as I mentioned, are getting hard to find. Besides you can connect a game console to a new LCD TV as easily as you can to an old CRT TV. Only problems are in connection of mono, CGA and EGA to new monitors or TVs.

  • hey i love your videos!...i have a blown capacitor but i cant find it is a cd293 220uf 450v and it says 25/085/21!...do you kno were i could find it??....

  • @xxsurcentralxx @xxsurcentralxx I don't know what the cd293 stands for but the other numbers are what you need to be concerned with. Digikey should sell a capacitor of this value.

  • @xxsurcentralxx CD293 is just a type designation by Sancon China for a can type radial lead aluminum electrolytic. It's only an 85C rated line, you should get a 105C replacement. As Dave mentioned the 220uF 450V is your main consideration and you may want to measure your present one in mm and get one about the same size. Panasonic, United Chemicon and some others are better replacements and are usually low ESR. Digikey has all the specs and you can choose to ship by USPS.

  • I have RCA T.v that have a bright white line in the middle of the screen and i have other t.v with all colors on the screen are wrong can you help me.

  • @massue21

A think white line is generally a bad display.

  • When a repairman says you need a new logic board, is he talking about the big main board or the under the metal plate T-Conn board? This is for a Westinghouse LTV 32w6HD that has sound and no pic. There is no obvious visual damage to either board.

  • @Ncharlestun The main generally has the tuner on it and may be under a metal plate but it's not the same thing as the T-con board which is also under a metal shielding.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs The main/main logic board was under 3 easily removed plates with cooling holes and along side the power supply. You lift up this assembly and can access screws to remove the smaller T-Conn board metal cover panel. I am going to reassemble to test the screen in darkness. There is no visible damage, fuse is good, caps look good but as you said caps may look good but may be bad. An old girlfriend gave it to me to examine after a repairman said it was the "logic" board.

  • Toshiba 46RV530U, sometimes takes a long time to turn. Sometimes the screen will come on immediately but the image will be real small in the middle of the screen.

Turn it off and on a few times and it sometimes turns on and is normal other times you just leave it on and the screen will turn after awhile and all is fine.

Any ideas? I took out the power supply and sub-supply boards. All look good. No obvious failures.

  • Hi! I've got a samsung la32b530 and its volume will lower down by itself to 0. The remote control does not seem to be working, and the volume control button on the TV panel does not work either. It will jump from TV to PC to HDMI (between sources by itself). And now, the remaining buttons are not working either (can't switch channel using either remote or main panel), in fact the only button that is working is the on/off button :( Can you advise me on some DIY repair tips?

  • I have a LG 52LG50, which begins to randomly channel surfs and also powers on & off by itself. (already troubleshooted the remote controls & cable box) seems like it's a circuit board problem. However I wanted a second opinion before making a purchase. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • @comedianonstage bad tactile switches may become leaky and cause this. You can unplug the wiring harness that goes to them and see if the problem goes away. If it does you probably need to replace them.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs Thank you, that was the solution

  • Hi i have a lcd lc260w01-A5K6 This tv is ok for a few hours then it gets lines going down the right side of my screen i turn it of let it cool down then its ok for a few more hours i have took the back of the tv and stays on longer but still gets really hot on the screen and switches its self of any help would be great. All the best Roger

  • @madboyjake1997 If it's a thin line that is generally from a bad display but I can't guess at your particular symptom.

  • If I was to attempt to repair a switched on tv would I receive a fatal electric shock?

And would it be safe for whoever found me to switch it off at the wall?

  • @FlakeyFreakout

There are some sections of a TV which have enough voltage to give you a serious shock but I can't say if it would be fatal or not. I have had many shocks in my life and a couple were pretty serious but nothing has killed me so far.

Other than doing some voltage tests all of the repairs I do are with the power off and the TV unplugged!

  • thank you so much because those tips are helping me a lot

  • more info on dynex worked great until an outside transformer blew ,it worked after that turned it off that day next day wouldnt power on. (do have basic knowledge of field) first tv. any ideas? ty for ur time.

  • @baldmikey96 Most likely a power supply problem. I would start by checking the obvious things like your fuse, caps and switching transistors. You might have a bad varistor as well.

  • Have dynex 40" lcd red standby light is on does nt blink but it wont power on ,there r no clicking snds other then when i plug it in . model no. DX-L40-10A .....none of the caps appear to be bulged 9 of them have black mark on top and the fuse is good

  • Hi I hope you can help me! I have a 32 inch Olevia flat screen tv and at first it started out as 1 blink line on tv, over the course of days there would be two than three and enough to notice it...well this morning I turned it on and its all white screen..Could you tell me please what this means and is it a easy fix....Also I was told that you should not play playstation games on it..Is this true? Hope you can help and Thank you!!

  • Sir, I have LC52D64U that went black while watching. The power and opc leds on the display flash.if you hit the power button you only hear the relay click. I've read the way these lights flash may indicate the problem. Is this true? I have tried to test some secondary voltage but the power supply clicks off. Any Ideas??

  • Sorry for the number of post back to back and the double post of last comment which was my first but couldnt fit it all in one comment due to charecter limit and thanks for any response u give.

These are the model numbers in question

Back Light Inverter VIT71864.50 LOGAH REV:3

    Circut Board 40-6PL37C-PWD1XG

  • Idont want to ruin another circut board. My original problem was no picture but did have sound. After futher investigation I learned that normally this is caused by the back light inverter. So basically is there a cheaper way to fix this problem than the replacing both the back light inverter and circut board? Or do I jus replace the Circut board. And which part comes with the inverter wire I assumed the backlight inverter? Found refurbished parts both together looking to cost me 100.00?

  • Great Help thanks for all the knowledge. I have a quick question I have a 42inch RCA Model Number L42FHD37RYX27 Ive never tried to repair a broke tv before today but ive learned a bit today and located my problem. I know my Circut Board is now bad. Its burnt up where the backlight inverter cord input. I dont know alot about electronics but I figured somethin caused that to happen. No compasitors looked bad on the back light inverter.

  • @GetItAzIs

I'm not sure what caused your symptom but often times inverterboards fail because they are poorly designed.

    Dave

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs Thanks for taking notice to my comment and I would also like to thank you for inspiring me to jump head first in learning to repair tvs. I just ordered several of the books you hav e recommended in throughout your videos. Im a hvac commercial install tech thats had a hard time keeping work and along with knowing all sorts of people having problems with these new tvs I believe with alot of commitment and research I can learn this trade backwards and forward. Thank again.

  • One last question that u may or may not be able to answer. Have you ever ran into a inverter problem that cause a circut board to burn up. Literaly the inverter wire on the circut board side was crispy. Is that normal and in your opinion is this somethin I should attempt as a DYI. My mother orderd the books for me as a birthday gift but my money is tight right now and I dont want to dig that hole deeper purchasing these parts for the tv. TVs is 18months old stayed on 18hrs a day.

  • @GetItAzIs Hi Dave been watching your video and find it helpful, I just want to ask a favor maybe you can help me with this inquiry its a common problem, I have a philips (40in)LCDTV, when I turn-on the tv there is no problem but when I shutsdown and leave it alone for 1 day and it will not turn-on again but when I detached the power cord and put it back again it will turn-on, but sometimes I have no problem the unit will just turn-on with no problem, I already check the back for bad caps, tnx

  • Great videos. Thanks for the information. Quick question, I recently had a 50" plasma (insignia) go out. I replace the power supply board and now I get sound and a screen full of white snow regardless of the input its on. I can hear the channels changing and the different shows but only see the snow. Same thing on vga/hdmi/dvd etc. Tested the power supply voltage and its ok.

    Any ideas.

  • @proudmomofjj It could be a faulty component on the board which has all your input jacks but I would start with the simple things such as looking for small hairline cracks on the board and make sure the power supply inputs to the Jack pack isn't missing or being shorted to ground. I can's say specifically what the voltages should be with out a schematic but I would think most of the voltages on this board would be around 5 volts.

  • Some very good information here. I've been a TV tech for a little over 25 years. You have some great stuff here for the DIY er. Learning how to troubleshoot, and what tools to use is half the battle. Much of the info on the web can be dangerous to the DIY, every thing here is shown correctly. Good job on the vids!

    Jim

  • @74f100x2 Thanks for the comment. Hopefully people will use what I show constructively.

  • What is that capacitor checker you are using? That thing looks sweet and saves time not having to unsolder all those caps just to test them. Also which caps should we look for that the meter can't handle? Thanks

  • @RejectedManiac I'm using the cap 88 by electronic design specialist but some say the capacitor wizard is more accurate. My website at TV REPAIR INFO . COM has a comparison link on the various capacitor testers.

  • i have a 24 in samsung i just use for video game's..from time to time it will power off and then on,,some time's it will do some times not,,i checked and looked at the cap's and dont see any bad ones..like you sed in your video you may not see and bad caps..any idea what could be wrong,,john from ny,,

  • HOW DO I FIX A CRACK SCREEN !! I WAS CARRYING MY 42 INCH I DROP IT NOT HARD JUST SLIGHTLY!! AND I GOT SPIDERWEBS SCREEN !!CAN IT BE REPAIRED

  • @dastepper22 Sorry for the bad news but there is no fix for a cracked screen. Most of the time the replacement cost exceeds the value.

  • I think you covered your material extremely well !

I am assembling one of those Blue ESR testers now.

Can I ask you a question? I have a Toshiba CF26C30 TV from 1994. It has the relay click but won't turn on. Well it partially turns on. It has the High Voltage when the relay turns on. I can also hear the audio amp turn on and off with the set turning on and off. The Power on LED will not light. I think it's missing the 9V that powers up the LED. Does your book have this problem? Thank you.

  • @Lockemeister I don't know if MIkes book has the problem. You can call him and ask. He will generally give a person one free tip.

Sometimes it only seems that the high voltage is working because it turns on for a second and then shuts down, and this can be long enough give you the impression the high voltage is working. Did you check out the horizontal output transistor for shorts and the flyback transformer?

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs no, i haven't , that is a good tip though, perhaps the HV is up only for a sec.

i suppose i can get a neon light near the HV cable on a plastic dowel to see if I have the HV for more than a second

  • At the risk of being a pain, I will ask one more question then get out of your hair:

Will a Fluke 113 work for caps (sorry, youtube it seems will not let me drop a link, but you can Google "Fluke 113" you can get the specs).

It will test capacitance, but I simply cannot seem to figure out if that is all that is needed (e.g., capacitence vs leakage?) I have been under the impression fluke tools are the acme of electronic test equipment (and I found one at a pawnshop for $30.00--looks new).

  • Hey Dave, I have watched all your videos on your site and find them very informative.

    I have 2 questions:

    1) What is your take--if any--on Rubycon brand caps?

    2) Any suggestions for a cap-tester that is cheap enough for poor college student who will only use it 6 probably around six times a year or so?

  • @Synaux I think the best capacitor tester for around a hundred bucks is the Blue ESR capacitor tester.

If you go to my website at tvrepairinfo you will find a link you can click on that has some comparisons about the various capacitor testers.

As far as your question about Rubycon capacitors I don't know much about them. I generally order my caps from digikey and I suspect most of the caps they sells are pretty good. They have a lot of Panasonic capacitors, United Chemicon, and Nichicon .

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs

Hey thanks for the quick reply! I didn't notice the capacitor comparison sheet until now, thanks.

$100.00 is currently a little pricey for me, but maybe I can find a deal on ebay or something.

I ordered some Rubycon caps before I discovered your awesome webpage, so we shall see ;)

I will tell you whether they install successfully in a few days, other than that, all i can say is that they are purdy.

  • What are the tolerances on lcd power supplies. My 24 volt is 23.8 which I assume to be good enough. The big difference is the 12 volt is 11.2. I only have a multimeter for now so this is just an initial trouble shoot, I plan on getting the capacitor meter latter. They tv was given to me free so i'm not in a hurry

  • Hey Man what is the capacitor meter you using? Where I can get one and how mach dos it cost?

  • Hi, i need help diagnosing a sick tv, and i wondered if you could help me. instead of trying to badly explain the problem, i have made a short clip with info, and posted it on my channel. Its a brightness problem, and i need to know what board to replace, and i haven't a clue.

  • @mattrix2007 I saw the symptom you have but I don't know what causes that. If one of my technician friends knows what that is I will share it with you.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs ok, thanks

  • @mattrix2007 it shows.

  • Pincushion Distortion

  • Question!! i have a slim horiozontally picture image on my samsung 30" i try all possible settings and adjustable button inside the pack panel did my transformer, tuner or capacitor when bad!!!!

  • I have found a blown diode on the board in the back of my Reilsys RLT32AG20, marked DE008, but the diode is too badly damaged to identify it, are you able to help?

  • @WatsonAndHillhouse I would not know its value without a schematic. Sometimes you can make an educated guess by seeing what part of the circuit it's in but I would need to see the circuit board.

  • @guitarbridgecleaner Have you fixed your LCD TV yet?If not, please let me know.I had the same TV,and fixed it by replacing the inverter, and power supply. It was doing the same thing as yours.I'm guessing yours is either a 40LD45Q,or a 40LD45QC.Thank You very much! Tyler

  • @1970GTOJUDGE

Which LCD TV are you asking about? In my most recent TV I mentioned a plasma TV I failed to repair but not an LCD TV?

  • can you please show me how to adjusting the Y-RR voltage setting on the YSUS board for my phillips 42PF7320A. I replaced the upper buffer board and need to adjust the voltage settings.

  • @thanxz911 Sorry I can't help but I don't know your TV or own one.

  • @guitarbridgecleaner Sounds like a good possibility.

  • In you opinion what would be the best book on the market to learn how to fix LCD computer monitors and what tools do i need. I have already grabbed hold of a Multimeter, SMD Rework Station, Oscilloscope & relevant Screwdriver types.

    Thanks mate :)

  • @blade004 I haven't found the perfect book that has all the answers and some portions of the books I recommend on my website have portions which are hard to follow but they are all I can recommend right now. I have a website you might find helpful at TV Repair info. Learning all you can about power supplies is probably the best thing you can do if your just starting out.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs can u please answer this question:

my tv turn off everytime i turn it on..... i check the capacitor and they all look perfeect to me!?!

isit turning off because it has a low voltage (it does not look damage to me so i think it got to do with low voltage) does it mean i have still have to replace all of them with new ones?!?

i all so notice that it overheat extremely fast compared to my living room plasma

  • @aylwardboi @aylwardboi I can't guess at your problem but If it's a LCD TV it could be a bad inverter board. You should not start replacing capacitors unless you know they are bad but you can't tell if they are bad just by appearance. Watch all my videos at TV REPAIR INFO

  • @aylwardboi. I can't guess at your problem but If it's a LCD TV it could be a bad inverter board. You should not start replacing capacitors unless you know they are bad but you can't tell if they are bad just by appearance. Watch all my videos at TV REPAIR INFO

  • What if I have a cracked lcd screen? Is it repairable?

  • @AgentCell It's generally not worth the cost to replace the LCD panel.

  • Respond to this video... I do not think you are promoting saftey.. the general public should NOT be messing with electrical repairs unless they are trained to do so.

  • hi there i have a 32" relisys lcd tv when switch it on it allcomes and screen comes on but there is no display on the screen plz tell me how to fix this . thanks

  • I think what ever controls the VGA to power off and on is where the problem may be. Can you fix? Or tell me what to do to fix it. I will be happy to pay you for your time. I thank you for your videos they have tough me a lot and thanks for any info you can give. Keep up the good work!

  • @Pokemonfanic56 I never know if they can be repaired until I do some tests on your TV. Do you live here in Grants Pass?

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs I live in NC . I think it has to do with the VGA use. It was cycling through (no signal tv will shut down0 then it turn right back on. Then the last time it just never came back on. Every one that uses the VGA mode ends up killing the tv.

  • @Pokemonfanic56 A man on Bad Caps. killed his neighbors TV when he hooked up a computer to it. He replaced the power supply twice and still it would not work.

  • I am having trouble with a Polaroid . Was trying to use VGA mode. TV could not find a signal and turned off and went into coma has rad light but does nothing else From what I found several people have had the same thing happen when using VGA. Why would the VGA mode kill the TV. The power board looks good no bulging caps. Is their a way to jump start it out of the VGA mode. One man with the same problem has changed the power supply 2 times with on luck.

  • No idea whether this has anything to do with this video as I know nothing on tech, but my TV won't turn on, what I mean is, it won't come off of standby.. can you help?

  • @1Reck7z

If you watch all of my videos I cover several reasons a TV doesn't come out of stand by.

  • Why don't multimeters have good cap testers? with ESR?

  • @Ibringthetruth1 Good question. I have B & K multimeter with a cap tester but it doesn't check ESR values.

  • one night my tv just went out. its a 42 lcd . the red light on the bottom comes on to tell me it is pluged in , but it does nothing when i hit the power button. two months out of warranty. and no responce from the makers of the tv at all.

  • I buy only Samxon, Nichicon and Rubycon... I only fixed my own TV though. You can test the capacitors without removing them from the board?

  • @NETWizzJbirk You can test most capacitors with out removing them but when there are two or three in a parallel circuit often times One or Two capacitors need to be removed in order to get an accurate reading.

  • My tv keeps blinking out to black and if you stomp your feet the picture jumps back in. It was doing that for awhile and now the screen is just black, I looked in the back of the tv and lights are still on. Do you have any idea whats wrong with it?? It's a 6 inch Hitachi. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help

  • @samiyahstuff I can't guess but I would start by checking the power going to your T-con board since your back lite sound like it's working

  • I have a 60" 2004 toshiba tv the bulb is new but the picture gose completly out after it's been on for 10 to 37 min then it gose black any thoughts. I'm thinking it may be a capsator or some relay. thanks

  • I have a 2004 toshiba 60" telvision the sound is good but the picture goes completly in and out the tv can be on for 10 min and up to 32 min and the picture will go out ant thoughts thanks

  • Please tell me that what are the basic ways to check CD/DVD lens. how can we check lens is working or not.

  • @Luckypk001 Sorry but I don't know since I don't work on CD or DVD players.

  • my samsung ln40c530f1fxza doesnt click but wont turn on the stand by flashes and the tv wont turn on

  • can you tell me about sound problems . I will tell u what happened. I had a problem with my samsung LCD LA40M81BDX / XSA. It was clicking and I changed capacitors that were little leaking. my clicking of LCD got fixed by doing so but I still have sound problem. I tried to put my ear phones into the TV jack place but still no sound. Can u please tell me what is the problem. it will be great help

  • i can see your a man that knows what he's doing and i'm curious to know if any of the newer XVT series of Vizio televisions actually support a PAL signal from a playstation3, dvd player, bluray player, ipod touch or just about any other PAL-signal device on the market..

My 2nd question is, can you modify the tuner so that it will accept a pal signal and can the aerial screw port be changed over to suit an australian aerial at all?

  • @jawbraeka Because NTSC uses 525 scan lines per frame it would take more than a tuner modification to be able to accept a pal signal which is 625 scan lines per frame. I don't know the answer to your other question.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs i found the answer to my 2nd question but thankyou for all the information you've provided.. saved me a lot of time.

  • i was wandering if you could help me out i have a vizio 50in plasma tv model p50hdtv108 and when i turn it on it will start flashing all differnt colored lights on it but i have sound i have tried all outputs and it does the same thing if you know what is wrong i would aprecate the help.

  • hi, I been watching all this videos and are very interesting. I would like to know if it is possible to make plasma tv into a flat panel.or less heavy. I got a big tv 42" and is heavy.and I wanted for display in my store window but is too heavy to carry .Thank you. smart people rules!!!. : )

  • I have a 42in Vizio tv that has audio but no picture.....sometimes if we unplugg it from the outlet and replugg it after a while ...when we turn it on the vizio loggo and then the picture will come up and it works fine....but if you turn it off and try turning it on again....NO PICTURE,,,,do you have an idea what could be wrong.....

  • @xavielo83 I don't know for sure but you might try warming certain portions of your circuit board to see if the problem improves. Often times a bad capacitor will slightly improve when it's warm.

    Good luck.

  • Hello sir. Vertical lines come up when subtitle or something bright are dispay on screen. Do you think if I replace t-con I will fix that problem. Please help

  • @jarnow2542 I can't guess at something like this. Vertical lines can mean a variety of things. Check out the display symptoms which I listed on my website. It might give you some clues at TV REPAIR INFO DOT COM

  • thanks dude for the knowledge you shared with someone ordinary. Im just a starter and i really can catch up with lots of problems with your guidance... God bless and post some more! keep rising

  • i have an AKAI 1080i tv and when i try to turn it on the light for the power keeps blinking and it wont turn on any suggestions

  • @bloodyman125 Did you do all the tests I show in my videos? I generally start by checking power supply voltages. If they test okay I move on to the inverter board and then on to the main board.

  • NO,the polarity is correct negative to negative positive to positive. and I did not check it ....how can i test it when no power at all....and i know how to test the B plus the negative to the ground and the positive to the B+..this is my first hardest problem in 8 months of electronics and i already test the diodes i dont know where did i go wrong??my problem now is that i have a blown fuse everytime i change the fuse ....

  • @mtogono Sounds like you have a short to ground. Sometimes I test for shorts to ground using my ohmmeter with the power off of course by cutting a circuit trace on the input to my voltage regulator to see if my short go away. Sometimes but not always you can unsolder the input terminal to your voltage regulator and do the same thing. Did you first check your horizontal output transistor for shorts using your meter on the ohms or diode check scale? It must be unsoldered to test correctly.

  • sir i have a crt tv 21 inc i know some electronics i also know how to test basic of a capacitor testing...this is my problem i replace a capacitor 220uf and 400v it is open same value of capacitor i replace, this capacitor belongs to power supply when i solder it to the board then i though it will be ok but the problem gets worst the fuse of the tv is now blown.... i replace another fuse same value but the problem still the same a got a blown fuse now i test the capacitor but it is ok now.

  • @mtogono Did you install your capacitors backwards? I start with the simple things like the horizontal output transistor, flyback transformer and sometimes the voltage regulator. Did you test your B plus line coming out of your regulator?

  • Hi I have a Panasonic 32" and the following happens

    1. I turn on TV and after 10-20 min it goes black screen and few second later it turns off

    2. Red light blinks at one second intervals

    3. I unplug it and plug back it and it will work for 5-10 min longer then same symptom

    4. I plug back in and go to menu and reset to default and it resets and then works much longer

    Any suggestions?

  • @behnamlaw I don't like to guess at what wrong but I would start out by looking for bad solder connections.

  • I have a Panasonic LCD 32" and after watching TV for 10 or 20 min it makes a clicking sound and turns off. If I unplug it and turn it on it will stay on for a few min and turn off again. right before it turns off the screen will go black but I still have sound. Now if I unplug and then turn on and reset to default it will stay on longer.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thx S

  • Gotta say I love the videos! I just got a Sharp LC-52SB55U really cheap but there is a power issue it has a flashing power and opc light. I looked up the error code and it is a 12v source I tested the connection and the voltage is like .04 any ideas?

    Thanks

P.s. the error is PNL_12V failure

  • @marcsummerhays Perhaps the 12 volt source is missing because the power supply is not in the run mode so you only have your stand by power. Sometimes you don't get your other voltages until the power supply is in the switched on or run mode. On the power supply board it may say switched or SW on the output terminal letting you know it must be on to have a voltage present.

  • i have a small Trutech hdtv that goes out when i turn it on now..>/ can u help me fix it please.

  • Hello. I recently just got a 46" LCD tv with a crack screen hoping I might be able to repair it. The model number on the screen is LTA460HF03. I was wondering if I need an exact matching number on a replacement one for it to work or can there be some difference in the numbers. The screen is manufactured by Samsung.

    Thanks

  • @thegizmojo I've noticed there are some TVs which have the same chassis even though they are sold under different names like Proview, Element and Polaroid but I don't know anything about display interchangeability between TVs. Have you found a source where you can buy an LCD display cheap enough to justify replacing it?

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs Thanks for the reply, I found one for $100 with the number LTA460HF05. The model number is only slightly different. I receive pictures of it but I am not convinced that it will work.

  • i have a rca tv and the pic dont come on just the light on the power button some one told me its the lamp . what i wont to no is what do the lamp do for the tv do it help show the pic on the screen

  • Got a Samsung hp-t5054 plasma tv given to me, it powers up, no lights on front, blank screen and sound works, pulled off back, focused on y board after internet search, took multimeter hit the wires on the top right blue thing (sorry not a tv tech) and a faint picture showed up, so I am assuming this means bad y board? A board behind a cage with a green flashing light, what board is this and does that mean anything? search this on here 'Samsung HPT5054 (Audio No Picture).AVI' THX in advance!

  • @pungigi Sorry but I can't follow what your saying.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs Sorry I'll try again... 2 issues I'll post seperately, 1st, there is a board on back of tv that has green lights on it, one of the lights is flashing, would you know what board this is and if the flashing green light is a bad thing, there is a video of this on here, if you search 'Samsung HPT5054 (Audio No Picture).AVI' you will see the board and the flashing light.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs Sorry, 2 seperate ???s 1st - there is a board on back with green lights, one of the lights is flashing, would you happen to know what board this is and if the flashing light is a bad thing, to see a video of this board search 'Samsung HPT5054 (Audio No Picture).AVI' on youtube.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs 2nd ???, Got a Samsung hp-t5054 plasma tv given to me, it powers up, no lights on front, blank screen and sound works, pulled off back, not seeing any blown capacitor's, after research it looks like it may be the main Y Board, so I took a multimeter and stuck the test leads to each wire (2) under the things with a blue rubber piece over it, when I tested one of them the picture then showed up slightly, would this mean the board is likely bad???

  • @pungigi Sorry but that's still not enough for me to go on. I don't know what a thing with a blue rubber piece over it is?

When you say you put your test leads to each wire I don't know which wire you talking about.

  • I have green line that runs vertically down my screen. The line isn't constant though, it appears and disappears depending on the color of the picture on the screen. What is the problem and is it worth fixing?

  • @Arthur711 How thick is the line? A very thin line no thicker than an eighth of an inch could mean your display is becoming detached from the tape carrier package where it's molded to the screen.

  • Ok ill try to tell u more hard to turn on and off i heare a hum at the ysus board and a grasshoper sound lol blanck screen and no sound and clik clik sound whin i turn it on i hope this helps. Thanks so much

  • @LisaMcIntosh007 Your hard to understand but it could be that your Ysus board is shorted. Did you check the fuses on the Ysus board?

  • Hi i have a Rca tv no sound and a blank screen i look on the net cant find any parts the mod Rca p42wh500 can u help please and help Thank k sir

  • @LisaMcIntosh007 Your not telling me enough detail. Did you watch all my free videos at TV REPAIR INFO . COM ?

  • sir if you parallel a 2 capacitors it will add the microfarad ...but the voltage will still be the same???? iam a begginner

  • @mtogono Yes the voltage will remain the same when capacitors are in parallel. In a series circuit the capacitors can handle a higher voltage but their microfarad value goes down.

  • Have you tried this method of making a non polarized cap? I can think of times that would have been really handy...

  • @ArtistBlade1972 Yes I have made bipolar caps a few times and they worked fine.

  • Grants pass can we talk u online please tell us your yahoo or hotmail address so that we can talk u online. thanks.

  • hi Dave

My panasonic gaoo from 97 started to have some horizontal screen effects the other day it seems to start after the tv has been on for five to fifteen minutes. The picture will shrink half the size of the screen then is broken up with hundreds of horizontal lines. Some times if you tap the left side of the screen facing you the lines will disappear then the picture will be good for another 3 to five minutes. Is there something Ican do to fix it myself . thanks

  • @rocznrowsez I'm wondering if your LCD display is starting to disconnect where the tape carrier package connections attach to the side of the screen. You might try using freeze spray on the screen edges to see if the problem improves. If so there isn't much you can do other than jam a piece of rubber behind the display connections but that's a long shot. You might start by reseating some of the ribbon cables and looking for bad connections.

  • @hughesbill45 If your talking about an older style TV a green screen can mean one of your color transistors is shorted or your picture tube elements are shorted. You can get the picture tube rejuvenated to see if that helps but often times it's not worth the effort and may even make the problem worse.

  • I have a samsung 52inch LCD TV was wondering is a green switch a bad idea to use with these tv's?not sure if it will hurt the tv switching it on and off I know it has a warm up circuit on it.Thanks

  • thank you very helpful I am interested in LCD tv repair

  • Would you please make a video explain different types of flat panel tv's and the basic layout of boards on them and what circuitry is usually on each board. Audio, video, power supply, monitor driver boards and what the connectors that go to the screen and talk about the back light. I am sorry but I would like to understand the basics and I feel that would help greatly to understand how to approach repairing my own tv. Thanks again and have found your videos very interesting.

  • I have a 32 inch Phillips hd energy saver tv that will only turn on every few weeks, then it powers off after about 6 hours of usage. Do you know what the hell is wrong with it?
