@ashers303 You're very welcome! :) For things like bracelets, necklaces and handbags, it's generally a 50/50 split between thrift stores and new retail. But for earrings and such, I tend to prefer to buy them brand new from places like Forever 21 and various Etsy shops. :)
Can you help me? I've been searching for 1940's swing/big band/jazz type music, like you would hear in antique stores and the music clips at the start of your tutorials. But I've had little luck, with the exception of the discovery of the Andrews Sisters! Do you have any personal favorites or suggestions? Thank you!
@lurancyvennum97 Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie... those are just a few of my favorites! Once you get into swing/jazz music, you start to discover so many more. :)
Thanks this was really helpful, but i have dark brown hair, and i have really dark eyes too so sometimes the red lips don't really suit me, do you have any suggestions for me?
@BabygalLondon I would suggest either a light coral-red or even a deep, rosy pink for you! Both are perfectly acceptable for the 40s, and a bit less bright than the red. Although you might want to try out some different shades of red; most people have a great shade of red that really flatters--it just takes some searching of different brands to find that perfect match! :)
You're so pretty! I am tanned and Middle Eastern looking (Turkish heritage) so I can't pull off this cute 1940s look. But I still think those paler women like Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor wer so beautiful and elegant
You are so beautiful! Very down-to-earth-looking, especially with this style of makeup! You look just like a gal from the '40s! Thanks for the awesome tutorial! :)
great tutorial, and not annoying like most. How do u keep ur lips so moist and soft? Mine are always dry. I try to use beeswax but not sure if that is the best thing. Any suggestions?
Thank you! :) The key to soft lips is exfoliating. Although you can buy specific kits/scrubs for this (Mary Kay sells one, I believe), I tend to just use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub away any dead skin. After that, be sure to moisturize with a good lip balm to prevent drying (I like Bert's Bees or Carmex). Also: drinking lots of water helps too! :)
sensational looking tips! appreciate it, have anybody tried Maybelline's latest product line?? it is not easy to find makeup in Muscoda yet you can recieve some impressive samples of make-up by going to 'Gratis Makeup Samples'! their cool!
This is REALLY nice because I'm still in school and heavy makeup looks somewhat silly on me. It's cool that I can do a vintage style look without feeling too obvious. Thanks!
@happyday316: I totally agree with you on that. Casey has a very classic beauty. She literally looks like she stepped out of an issue of LIFE magazine from the 1940's or 1950's.
You could genuinely pass as a starlet from the 50's. Like, you know how stars today try and recreate the looks from the 50's but they just don't LOOK right? Like, they look different somehow? You don't though and it's strange to find someone like that! Great vid and you have gorgeous eyes :)
lovely bits of advice- appreciate it, has anybody sampled MACs latest product line? its difficult to find decent makeup in Arnold yet i managed to recieve some impressive cosmetics samples using "Gratis-Makeup-Samples"! their cool!
I have a question about the eyeliner/mascara. It doesn't look like you use mascara or liner on the bottom lid. Am I correct? Also, with the eyeliner, I have seen people do a very heavy corner on the outside for 40s makeup. Is that more 60s Audrey Hepburn, though?
Oh goodness I really don't know how to do make up at all and this is quite fascinating indeed. I just sorta dab some shadow and colour on and that's that. my eyebrows are a mess and everything too. . ugh. do you have an eyebrow tutorial :: goes to look through your vids :: Thanks for the tips.
+Victoria/Justice Pirate+
by the way, I'm uploading pin-curl how-tos and how to take them out/style them and I know you were recently dealing with that issue, so perhaps it can help a little?
What a great video! I'm fair-skinned too so I can also have this problem with full foundation covering up the natural colour in my skin.
I've got one question about the eye-shadows I hope somebody might be able to answer, though: were they totally matte in the 40s, or did they have subtle shimmer to them?
Thanks so much for this, I always admired the older classic styles like the 40s makeup. You're very beautiful by the way and this look compliments you SO well. I wish this style came back into the mainstream more, girls will look so much elegant and feminine than they do now.
ok at 4:34, what did you use as eyeliner and mascara. it really makes your eyes pop! i know how you did the eyeshadow...but can you explain how you did the eyeliner and mascara? =]
Oh also ha ha please don't take this badly I think you're great I just thought also some matte lips! From research over the years I've established some sort of.. well 'rules' or things to go by, that the lips and makeup were generally matte with little shine and the eyeliner in dark brown like I previously mentioned. Matte lips would look excellent on you, a bit more vintage. Good luck with all your future vlogging xo
This is a really good video, have you ever tried dark brown eyeliner I just think it would be really pretty a long with your mostly neutral make up. Just a suggestion, I really like the black also. It'd be gorgeous teamed with one of the browny red lipsticks! Thanks for all the great videos they're so informative and light hearted :] hooray for happiness!. xo
Lately i've been playing with different colours in the crease.. depending on what i'm wearing. and ivebeen highlighting with a yellow and putting that just above my eyeliner. Right now ive got purple in the crease but i blended it well so it is still pin up. ive been watching alot of the older movies and noticed they don't always wear red lipstick so i have also got like a purple lipstick on (just swiped on my lower lip and blended a lot, it's not super purple lol).
A lot of people tend to associate the black liner with Marilyn Monroe and other famous belles of the golden Hollywood days, but as a matter of fact, Marilyn Monroe most often used a soft to medium brown colour as an eyeliner. This is absolutely perfect for those of us with super pale skin who don't want our eye make up to look too harsh or too black and heavy.
Use brown gel eyeliner and a brown/black mascara! It works wonders, believe you me.
When you are highlighting under the brow you can highlight just above the cheekbone. Under the eye but not close to the eye. so just above where your blush ends to blend them. it makes you glow a little more and give your eyes a little pop.
I just wanted to say that I think you're adorable, and watching your videos is making me really wish I hadn't cut all my hair off a few months ago because now I can't go all vintage without feeling like something's missing :(
The pink looks great on you! I like to use a soft peach or copper color as well to compliment my hair when I'm doing a soft vintage look. Great tutorial!
Peach or copper are a great suggestion too! I also have used some coral-pink shades before too, with good effect. :) Glad you enjoyed the tutorial! :)
