Having viewed this once more, (from your perspective, as best I was able), I am inclined to agree with you.

I strongly suspect the 'synchronized catatonia' (well said, I must say!), is a defensive measure put in place by the 'Wives'.

Clearly, they knew that any attempt to engage Dame Edna in spoken 'thrust and parry', would quickly have them reduced to monosyballic mumblings.

The reason why he kept the Dame Edna image going so long is that he is extremely intelligent. He knows what people want and he is so quick thinking he can do well in interviews because his mind is so far ahead of everyone else. It's like a chess game for him. They do a move and he immediately studies the board and thinks ten moves ahead.

I didn't take Trinny's comment that way. I think when she said "I will tell you where to go" as in where to get botox treatment. Dame Edna turned it around to mean something else which is what she usually does. She doesn't do toilet humour its all innuendo. I think they were being very good to her. Edna even says I like you little Trinny. The last time I saw that pair on Parkinson was when Meg Ryan was on the show and she was rude to them as well. I doubt they will go on that show again LOL.
