  • And DMC12guy - Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU! I haven't seen this in a good 25 years or so, and it is still a masterpiece of slapstick comedy, even from an adult pov.

  • I have this on a VHS tape from Warner Home Video called "Hardware Wars and Other Film Farces." The paradies on the tape are "Hardware Wars," "Bambi Meets Godzilla," "Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind," and "Porklips Now." Nerd is my favorite. I saw it decades ago on HBO.. Although "Porklips Now" is a classic.

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • Why does the narrator sound like the Disney Captain Hook?

  • @Lordoofious The voice actor is Corey Burton, who went on to be one of the greats - among other things, he is the official Disney voice for Captain Hook, since Hans Conreid(sic) died some time ago. Seriously, if you've watched animated anything made in the last 20 years, you've heard Corey Burton.

  • this should be on a dvd

  • OMG! Thanks so much for posting this! I've been looking for it for years! Every time I eat mashed potatoes, even at the Thanksgiving table, I start singing "Gonna build a mountain!" Everyone always thinks I'm nuts (which I am)! But at least now I can show them my inspiration!

  • GONNA BUILD A MOUNTAIN!

    IN YOUR LIVING ROOM!

    GONNA BUILD A MOUNTAIN!

    AND IT'S GONNA BE KEEN!

My poor parents had to deal with me singing this every two minutes when I was a wee thing. (And without this sentence I have 314 characters remaining--COINCIDENCE?)

  • @SewardWriter Yes.

  • Wow I remember this! I thought it was funny and cool. :)

  • HaHa. I just noticed this time, at 4:38, he blows his flashlight out.

  • I Can't Believe Hans Conried agreed to do this

  • @Kitsuneranger It certainly sounds like him. I wasn't sure if it was him or not since he doesn't get credited for the film at all. Kinda felt appropriate given how "Hardware Wars" had used Paul Frees to narrate it's spoof of Star Wars.

  • I love the "famous movie scores done badly" part. That was hilarious.

  • This is the first time I've seen this, thanks to my bud for showing this to me this is simply great!

  • I haven't seen this in years THANK YOU THANK YOU LOVE THIS

  • I still piss my pants laughing at the singing mailboxes......man they just dont make genius comedy like this anymore. All Hail Ernie Fosselus! SPECIAL GUEST STAR: BIG TRAKK!

  • HAHAHAHA...watched Close Encounters last night and just happened to look for this and found it. Thanks for posting this. I remember watching this many many years ago. LOVE IT!!!

  • It did mean something.. it was a staged alien invasion for a new world order. have fun yallz

  • "Gonna build a mountain, in your livin' room! Gonna build a mountain, and it'll be keen!" Carried this around in my head for 30 years!

  • Ditto!!!!!

  • Earlier this afternoon, I was saying to my kids, "This Means Something..." I remembered it was from a movie I had seen on HBO when I when I was 12, and I'd been quoting that line ever since. Just a few minutes ago I thought to look it up on youtube. Can't believe I found it! And by everyone else's comments, I see that I'm not the only one who's had this movie stuck in their heads for 30 years!

  • I remember seeing this as part of a festival of spoofs that was playing at the late, great Off the Wall theater in Cambridge, back in 80 or 81. It was this and "Hardware Wars" and "Porklips Now" and a bunch of others. Good times. :)

  • I remember seeing this back in the early 80s. I was probably 6 or 7 at the time. Thanks!

  • OMG i used to watch this over and over as a kid!!! Great memories!!!!!!

  • " they just keep saying the same thing......they just keep saying the same thing......they just keep saying the same thing". I have said this silly saying my whole life. I forgot for a while where I picked it up. I can't believe I found this movie. I was like 8 years old when I seen this movie on SUPER CHANNEL or something. Thanks for the great post!

  • OMFG I remember watching this as a kid!!!

  • "Gonna build a mountain, and it's gonna be keen," FTW!

  • THIS MEANS SOMETHING... that I found this video after all these years!

  • Ha Ha

i remember this parody from way back

    excellent classic

    great post!!!

    still funny as hell!!!

  • I've been singing Gotta Build a Mountain for the past thirty years.

  • 02:43 shhhh kah-wiyet we're rowulling!

  • (8:59) BWA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great movie posters at 1:20...boy do I remember those. They're considered vintage today--kaching! Oh, and love how all the actors talk with Borscht Belt or redneck accents.

  • Great movie posters at 1:20...boy do I remember those. They're considered vintage today--kaching!

  • Ah, good old Pyramid films...they released so much obscure stuff back in the day when there were so few outlets for it, unlike today. YouTube & the like make it so much easier to get a film out to the public.

  • mashed potatoes lawl.

  • OMG! I remember seeing this on HBO or Showtime. it cracked me up when I saw it. Still does... :)

  • Do-bah do-bah do-bah do-bah do-bah do-bah do-bah. Gonna build a mountain! In your living roooooooooom!

    An old favorite!

  • I remember getting the VHS from the Library that had Hardware Wars, Closet Cases, Bambi Vs Godzilla and Porklips NOW. Hardware Wars is THE classic SW parody but I think Closet Cases is the funniest movie parody EVER> I can never watch Close Encounters (a movie I love) with the mailbox scene without causing me to have "Gonna Build a Mt." play through my mind.

  • I have been looking for this for a while now, ever since I found out Corey Burton is in it. Thanks so much for uploading.

  • @SirHatchporch jomg which one is corey burton(brainiac)?

  • @Maxstrl He's the narrator.

  • Holy crap, I found it!! I was 10 in 1980 and that was the last time I saw this hilarious parody. I've been searching for it ever since...thanks for posting! :)

  • Thank You for posting this movie short. I thought the title had another name, and was looking for it that way. I always remember the scene where Darth Vader was riding the Harley Davidson. Also the RR signal dancing around. Thanks again.

  • Me too! I have to do it, but just can't take having to explain it to everyone :) Oh, and the voice it Dudley Doorite I think.

  • Wait, Marvin the Martian now! Yeah, that's the ticket.

  • Comment removed

  • For 30 years I've been saying, "Hmm, this means somtheing," in a Kermit the Frog voice and couldn't remember where it came from.

  • @chessic4 me too, except I remembered the source. also always make a devil's tower with mashed potatoes.

  • lol popcorn + bubbles

  • This means something!

    Thanks for posting this gem!

  • i finally seen this video after many years since my favorite childhood movie close encounters. totally funny when i was a kid. but so aweful now. i was expecting to laugh. i am saddened.

  • @SRaviator this fan film is utterly brilliant. You need to comment on the other You Tube trash before condemning this.

  • This video kills me, even today. I saw this video before I saw Close Encounters. People thought I was nuts, because I kept quoting lines from this video during the movie.

The mailbox scene kills me! How did they do the mailbox scene?

  • I was actually in this!!! This is my Dad's movie...too cool! This has been a great childhood memory! (I'm one of Roy Dreary's kids at the table.)

  • @MofMartists That is very very cool! I am so glad you commented! I have loved this film scince I was a kid. Its too bad I only have my old video tape of it, if only there was an HD copy lol, regardless, I love it! Give your dad my best.

  • @MofMartists one of my all time favorites!

  • @MofMartists This is FUNNY! I looked for years for this. Horay for youtube.

  • @MofMartists

And those mailboxes are a really good effect!

  • 4:12 Darth Vader on a Harley Davidson. used to scare me when I was like three years old.

I havent seen this since we had HBO around 1980.

    awesome!

    thank you for posting

  • i haven't seen this in 30 years! WOW!

trying to find a copy of "The Dead Battery", which was another animated short film HBO would show back in the day. it was about a guy who got stranded on the L.I.E. and an alien flew over him.

  • This and Hardware Wars are awesome! They were originally intermission shorts for channels like HBO way back when.

  • 5:36 always made me pee myself. And the singing mailboxes.

  • Omg, been so many years since I've seen this. Thanks for posting this!

  • Brilliant.

  • I have been looking for this for years. Thank you for posting. They just keep saying the same thing!

  • Hmm! This means something.

Thanks so much for posting this! I've been trying to find it for so long. I used to have "Hardware Wars And Other Film Farces" (which this was part of), but I don't remember what happened to it. :(
