And DMC12guy - Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU! I haven't seen this in a good 25 years or so, and it is still a masterpiece of slapstick comedy, even from an adult pov.
I have this on a VHS tape from Warner Home Video called "Hardware Wars and Other Film Farces." The paradies on the tape are "Hardware Wars," "Bambi Meets Godzilla," "Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind," and "Porklips Now." Nerd is my favorite. I saw it decades ago on HBO.. Although "Porklips Now" is a classic.
@Lordoofious The voice actor is Corey Burton, who went on to be one of the greats - among other things, he is the official Disney voice for Captain Hook, since Hans Conreid(sic) died some time ago. Seriously, if you've watched animated anything made in the last 20 years, you've heard Corey Burton.
OMG! Thanks so much for posting this! I've been looking for it for years! Every time I eat mashed potatoes, even at the Thanksgiving table, I start singing "Gonna build a mountain!" Everyone always thinks I'm nuts (which I am)! But at least now I can show them my inspiration!
My poor parents had to deal with me singing this every two minutes when I was a wee thing. (And without this sentence I have 314 characters remaining--COINCIDENCE?)
@Kitsuneranger It certainly sounds like him. I wasn't sure if it was him or not since he doesn't get credited for the film at all. Kinda felt appropriate given how "Hardware Wars" had used Paul Frees to narrate it's spoof of Star Wars.
I still piss my pants laughing at the singing mailboxes......man they just dont make genius comedy like this anymore. All Hail Ernie Fosselus! SPECIAL GUEST STAR: BIG TRAKK!
HAHAHAHA...watched Close Encounters last night and just happened to look for this and found it. Thanks for posting this. I remember watching this many many years ago. LOVE IT!!!
Earlier this afternoon, I was saying to my kids, "This Means Something..." I remembered it was from a movie I had seen on HBO when I when I was 12, and I'd been quoting that line ever since. Just a few minutes ago I thought to look it up on youtube. Can't believe I found it! And by everyone else's comments, I see that I'm not the only one who's had this movie stuck in their heads for 30 years!
I remember seeing this as part of a festival of spoofs that was playing at the late, great Off the Wall theater in Cambridge, back in 80 or 81. It was this and "Hardware Wars" and "Porklips Now" and a bunch of others. Good times. :)
" they just keep saying the same thing......they just keep saying the same thing......they just keep saying the same thing". I have said this silly saying my whole life. I forgot for a while where I picked it up. I can't believe I found this movie. I was like 8 years old when I seen this movie on SUPER CHANNEL or something. Thanks for the great post!
Great movie posters at 1:20...boy do I remember those. They're considered vintage today--kaching! Oh, and love how all the actors talk with Borscht Belt or redneck accents.
Ah, good old Pyramid films...they released so much obscure stuff back in the day when there were so few outlets for it, unlike today. YouTube & the like make it so much easier to get a film out to the public.
I remember getting the VHS from the Library that had Hardware Wars, Closet Cases, Bambi Vs Godzilla and Porklips NOW. Hardware Wars is THE classic SW parody but I think Closet Cases is the funniest movie parody EVER> I can never watch Close Encounters (a movie I love) with the mailbox scene without causing me to have "Gonna Build a Mt." play through my mind.
Holy crap, I found it!! I was 10 in 1980 and that was the last time I saw this hilarious parody. I've been searching for it ever since...thanks for posting! :)
Thank You for posting this movie short. I thought the title had another name, and was looking for it that way. I always remember the scene where Darth Vader was riding the Harley Davidson. Also the RR signal dancing around. Thanks again.
i finally seen this video after many years since my favorite childhood movie close encounters. totally funny when i was a kid. but so aweful now. i was expecting to laugh. i am saddened.
This video kills me, even today. I saw this video before I saw Close Encounters. People thought I was nuts, because I kept quoting lines from this video during the movie.
The mailbox scene kills me! How did they do the mailbox scene?
@MofMartists That is very very cool! I am so glad you commented! I have loved this film scince I was a kid. Its too bad I only have my old video tape of it, if only there was an HD copy lol, regardless, I love it! Give your dad my best.
