Hi - I am attending the "5th Annual Roanoke Virginia Regional Writers Conference at Hollins University" and now have no excuse for uninteresting responses to comments of my videos.
The first session was last night and go back tomorrow for whole day. It is very interesting and meeting some great folks. Thank you for your interest in the LCF Group Video Channel - Dave in Floyd Virginia
I mention in this video that would not be advisable to use a tuner like this one with no RF shielding. We know now that RF fields can be very harmful to humans and animals. This tuner was made perhaps 40 or more years ago folks did not consider the possible dangers. This tuner with a Kilowatt of input would have very high local field - not to be used only for looking at it now. Dave KK4WW & N4USA
yeppirs this would not be a good way to radiate RF FROM THE TUNER. Tuners are NOT antennaes! They're main purpose is to protect the finals from crappy feedline and bad antennaes. It's much cheaper and better to make the antenna as broadbanded as possible, and use higher quality feedline. I feel it is better to place an external auto- tuner at the antenna too.
@umajunkcollector Yes I sure agree with you - If one were to actually use it their would be a lot of radiating in the shack.. I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS UNIT OR ANY OTHER IN UNSHIELDED CASE . It is nice to see this vintage homebrew unit -- I do have an even bigger until made by the same ham and it is in enclosed case. I will be doing a video on it. Tuners do help with max power transfer from transmitter to the feed line - and as you say - save the finals. Dave
