How does the rat compare to the jcm pre in the marshall? iT LOOKS LIKE A JCM BEHIND HIM? I just received a proco and the sound I get from it is close to the DSL I have. Just the dsl is thicker and smoother no matter the tone set.

very good pedal this one ive used for quite some time but if you are using as a 'tone type of pedal' its dead unfortualy. I have the original one like this but i find using a pedal such as the ts9 as a booster for this pedal, the Rat just wants to brake up :( it has the smallest amount of gain on and its all mushy but thats just me otherwise its a very good and versatile piece of kit keep rocking people !

@LzrdKng9000 for stoner rock you should get a thick sounding fuzz pedal, like the Way Huge Swollen Pickle, EHX Big Muff etc. A TS is an overdrive, not a distortion or fuzz effect, so you won't get the necessary amount of distortion out of it. Its great when you have a tube amp and want to push it into overdrive or give it an extra amount of juice to up your gain when the amp is already distorting other than that you will only get a crunch tone that is nowhere near the Josh Homme sound.

Blues Junior - volume is MAXED, treble @ 7, Bass @ 4.5, gain @ 4.5...

TS-9 for Noel's overdrive.

For his distortion, he uses the natural amp or Marshall's JCM800 amp sound. His sound also comes from humbucker pickups.

He's used the RAT before, Crowther Hotcake, Cornish SS2, and SD-2 (double pedal).

Hope that helped... the Tubescreamer can be replaced by a cheap BOSS SD-1.

I own this pedal and it's terrible. The pedal for one is very noisey if you go past 12 oclock on the gain or volume...

The center filter knob is really lame it dosen't filter it actually is useless. Turning one way takes the sound and imitates putting a towel over your speaker cab. It's horrible and should have never been allowed to be marketed.

I have a les paul and a Vox AC15. Before getting my Les Paul i was using an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff which worked perfectly with my strat, but with the Les Paul the big muff was just eating away all the low notes (Les Pauls having a deeper sound), which made it sound horrible. I'm now looking for a new distortion pedal and this one seems like it could be a better match. If anyone could give me a bit of advice, that'd be grand ! Cheers
