I'm not a Stephan Dion fan but have to sympathize with him here as the news anchor asked a very ambiguous question. As an English teacher, I'll say that the question was poorly worded: "If you WERE prime minister now, what WOULD you HAVE DONE that prime minister Harper HAS not DONE?" It's awkward mix of verb tenses.
The question could have read: "If you had become prime minister two years ago, what would you have done about the financial crisis?"
Clearly though, Dion's English is poor; he should have caught the drift. He seemed to interpret the question as "If you became prime minister today ..."
The question should have been, "If you were Prime Minister today, having been elected 2.5 years ago, what would you have done different...?" Cut the guy some slack, his English is better than most Canadians' French :)

So Dion cocksu.. humm I mean supporters, please stop making excuses for a man who obviously does not master the English language. It was not CTV's fault, it was only mister Dion's fault that he didn't learn proper English before running for Prime Minister !
the questions was of abhorrent grammar and difficult for a second language speaker. "If you WERE (past tense) prime minister NOW (present tense), what would you have done (past tense again)" Also, he obviously was thinking logically in the sense that a key event int he past had changed like he had gotten elected, not simply "you were magically prime minister now what woudl you have done..... no we wont air this tape.... heres the tape" seriously fuck CTV
the question was ambiguous and he could have arbitrarily decided to answer it from any time frame he wanted (2 years ago, 6 months ago...etc). He was clarifying the question so as to answer it the best he could. I absolutely agree with him for wanting to clarify. The last thing we need are ambiguous questions about such important topics. I have no doubt that he is a really smart guys who had amazing plans for the economy that matter to Canadians. He just doesn't come off very personable.
Not to defend Dion, but this was a dumb question. The guy asked him "If you were Prime Minister today, how would you have done things differently in the past that Harper did not". The interviewer himself has confused past and present tenses.
@levanyzzuf Yes, it's a badly worded question....he's operating in his 2nd language, AND they assured him they wouldn't show this...they ended up apologizing to him for airing it. So he could've handled the false starts differently if he knew they were airing it.
@hryciuk13 no it doesn't. He never gave a time frame. No starting point. Unless you assume that he means "what would you do if you had taken harper's term?" which he didn't say, it never made any sense...
I thought Dion was a horrible candidate, but there are better examples of his ineptitude elsewhere. This one is just convenient for those with a 2-minute attention span. The question was flawed, as it mixed up - Hey look! A squirrel!
This was unfair. He initially asked the interviewer if he meant from 2.5 years ago and didn't get a response. I can understand his wanting to clarify it. And no, I voted for Jack that election and will again this coming one.
The question mixed up tenses. Its confusing and its understandable he gets confused since his first language is not english. Indeed the Canadian Broadcast Council said this interview was unfair.
Dion is actually tearing apart Murphy's poor grammar on camera. The question makes no sense and Dion knows it. Dion should have been more assertive and asked Steve to rephrase the question in a way that makes sense. If you think the question makes sense your English skills are extremely lacking.
Apparently, Dion has better grammar than Steve Murphy. His question was ambiguous and worded extremely poorly. What Mr. Harper may or may not have done is an action of the past tense. However, the question asks about now. A journalist with an ounce of integrity and intelligence would have recognized that the question was poorly worded and certainly would have rephrased it in a manner that made sense.
"If you were PM "now", what would you have "already" done..." lol Steve Murphy is a goofball.
It does not mater to someone with intelligence, how you word the question. It is grammatically correct, perfectly legit queation, I can ask you how many is 2 plus 2 or I can ask you how many is 3 minus 5 plus 6. Both ways are correct, the later one may require you to be slightly more intelligent You are trying to defend stupid thing called dion. Well, all right. English is my fifth language, yet, I had no problem to understand the question. It is logic, what dion lacks.
Your little math analogy isn't the same thing, at all, because math equations are logical, as long as they are written down correctly. Steve Murphy's question simply made no sense. I honestly don't still don't know what was his true question. I'm not entirely sure he was even looking for an answer. It seemed an awful lot like a set up, to me.
Did he want to know what Dion would have done if he was PM 2 years prior, or if he was just elected?
@pavolslovakia Oh, and Steve Murphy is a laughing stock in Nova Scotia. No one with "intelligence" respects him. He was the brunt of jokes after that question.
Just to be clear, the question is not grammatically correct. You can say it is all you want, but that doesn't make it true. Sort of like Harper saying he didn't want to form a coalition with the Bloc Quebecois. He keeps denying it, but that doesn't make it true.
@chrisralph69 i agree the time line in the question was impossible to have an answer. As the reporter was asking him to hypothetically take office now and go back in time,
Well people are saying that hes french so its ok, well Canada is bilingual and he also has to understand ENGLISH! Don't stick up for him cause you feel bad, he should know how to speak proper english.
People really ought to cut Dion some slack, here. English is an EXTREMELY hard language to learn, and with all of the odd tenses that we have, I am not surprised that he was having trouble. The interviewer should have better worded the question. He should have said: "If you had been elected instead of Harper, what changes would you have made by now?" ...Or something to that effect.

I live in Alberta, and it really frustrates me how much Dion was mocked, when Harper was much worse in French. The questions asked to Harper in French were very straightforward and he didn't understand. This question was all over the place and wasn't properly worded. But I do think that all Canadians should be fluent in both French and English. None of that "parlezz vouz friansaiz?" garbage. Alors, pour tous les imbéciles qui ne comprends pas la langue, je vous conseille de l'apprendre. :)
CTV was just hoping that we would fall for this 'incompetency' trick. Refusing to answer a poorly worded/dumb question does not make a bad prime minister. Unless, of course, you fall for these kinds of gimmicks instead of paying attention to policy.
Dion tu es un intellectuel... c'est triste que tu manques de charme et de charisme lorsque tu parle en anglais... en espérant que la population canadienne élira Igniatieff qui d'après moi es le seul capable de restaurer notre identité internationale...
LOL imagine how bad we would look if this guy would be representing our country.People would think english is our 5th language when in fact if you leave quebec and parts of ottawa french is about as common as italian, greek, chinese, spanish etc.Learn how to speak english properly!!
sure the question is poorly worded, but honestly if a small grammatical mistake like that completely throws him off, he has no business running for prime minister
I was surprised when I watched this, seeing how much difficulty Dion had with understanding that question. Reading the comments down below, I now realize the grammatical error in the question as Steve Murphy read it, but it's a common error in a sentence of that type, and in my opinion I think the question could still have been easily understandable.
Why phrase the question so stupidly? "If you were PM, what would you do?" would be sufficient. By throwing in "now", it confuses things. The interviewer is a moron who doesn't understand conjugation. In French, it's a bigger deal. The interviewer should have asked, "If you had been the PM when..." You Anglos never want to face up to the fact that your French is crappier than his English every will be.
Also, this is a rightist interviewer. Harper doesn't even talk to the media half the time.
I think this was a cheap shot. Dion was clearly confused. He didn't understand the question and I would say the question was confusing for an ESL speaker. It was confusing if English was a first language! "If you were prime minister now what would you have already done that stephan harper hasn't done?" I'm embarrassed for the broadcaster, he's mixing verb tenses.
Yes that's what 75% of Canadians whant, a leader who can't understand them.... these libs are unbelievable. I think my english was better when I was 14...
@loystloystloyst Le francais est ma langue natale, je suis Quebecois pure laine. And my english is so good that people can't tell that I'm french when they here me speak. Its a bilingual country, if you wanna be PM you have to be able to speak both language properly, like Harper can. If not you insult and alienate a large part of its people.
This guy would've been great for the NWO if he'd been elected.
Nobody would ever be able to make sense of WTF he's saying, and would just scoff at the dumb frog.
He could easily deindustrialize us with a carbon tax and implement socialist policies that further concentrate power to an area out of reach of the commonwealth, all without anybody knowing exactly WTF he said he was going to do.
I think this video depicts a man who pays close attention to detail, lol. Not a bad thing. If he had been the prime minister when the question suggested he would be he would have been the prime minister for 2.5 years already suggesting that the current situation in government and the country's economy would be much different. The question should have been: "If you were in the current prime minister's position, what would you do about Canada's economic situation."
On the actual question, the question is very vague. I sat down and thought about the question, and the interviewer is, as said, very vague. Stephane Dion said, "If I was the Prime Minister two and a half years ago?", and the interviewer implies that is incorrect. It was a huge miscommunication between Dion and the interviewer, and CTV should have had enough decency not too show it.
This video is pure bull shit CTV does not ask the question properly. It's fucking stupid question to ask because it doesn't make any sense. Dion did not screw up, the interviewer is asking a stupid question that makes no sense.
The problem is the question is poorly worded. If you were prime minister TODAY, what would you HAVE done that Harper HAS NOT done? He is changing the tense which is confusing Dion.
Okay. I don't like Dion, at all haha. That said, I can't help but think that CTV did a very very poor job in covering this story. First and foremost- how is this entire segment at all germane to the issues? It seems more like CTV is pushing an agenda than anything else (think Fox news). A political assassination. News organizations should know the difference between being bias, neutral and objective. Objectivity being, of course the standard. But this story is extremely bias.
...I think his confusion came from the question, and it's common to french speaking people. And it has to do with the perfect and imperfect tense as well as the present, past and future tense of a word. French ppl learning English and English ppl learning French often run into problems with these. So it's understandable but obviously CTV decided to remit that from the segment so they really weren't giving the full, objective story.
I don't think it is because he can't understand english, nor it is a total screwup form anyone... Just a communication problems: that question, from an academic point of view, ask some abstraction.A political plan is not put in action in 24 hours. Dion was wondering "when I'm suppose to have started, what should I have done, and what"next"" - which is an overcomplicated tough in that context. He should have relaxed and answer "here what should have been done: cut that, raise that, fuck that".
@cjkoch94 What we have hear is Steve Murphy targeting Stephane Deon simply because he isn't as well expressed in english as he is in french. During the interview, it doesn't appear that way. However in the way he introduced the clip it was clear that we were made out to view Deon as less intelligent. The fact that there is a language barrier has NOTHING to do with his capability of running a country. This is not biased, I am simply stating the facts.
HAHAHAHA...imagine if Bush had been the one answering like that...BUT...this man is a L-I-B-E-R-A-L (no matter his nationality) and ALL is forgiven!!!!
I guess "he did not have enough sleep that nite and that's why". What a DUMBASS!
I have no doubt that Dion is an intelligent individual, yet his presentation is weak and uninspiring. A guy like him might be Premier of Quebec, but could never run a country without speaking its language properly.
@TheGeekyNinjaStudios sorry but Canada has two languages, French and English. yes I am bilingual I was born and raised in Alberta moved to Quebec in my senior year of high school. but I do agree he is no leader.
The question was not clear. However if M. Dion understood English better, he would have done a better job in navigating this obstacle. Let's face it, Dion is not the first politician in history to be asked an unclear question by a journalist. This exchange proves that he does not deserve to be the leader of majority English speaking nation.
and THAT is the problem with most Canadians in general. We vote for PARTIES, based on party ideology, not for politicians. Thus liberal canadians will always vote liberal no matter how bad of a leader the party has and conservative Canadians will vote for conservatives no matter what. It becomes less of an issue of "I support this politicians policies" it is more "Well I am not voting for the liberals/conservatives!"
which is made even more distrubing if you consider that with a majority government the PM is basically an inch short of being dictator of Canada (If a cabinet member disagrees they are kicked out, if party members vote against them chances are the same will happen). Which is why it really frightens me that we don't vote based on who the leader is but more based upon the ideology of their party.
besides he does make a point anyway there is a difference between starting now and cleaning up the mess of stephen harper and starting before harper became PM. unfortunatly any one that looks at this will only have shallow elementary mockery to say...
"A new Liberal government will make our cities, our communities, and our schools safer by getting military assault weapons off our streets." Mr. Dion went on to argue that, "military assault weapons have no connection to hunting or sport shooting, and serve absolutely no purpose in our society. No one outside of the military needs these weapons and we would all be safer without them in Canada."
Mr. Dion didn't bother to explain to Canadians that such firearms have been banned since 1978.
The journalist's question is plain and understandable enough (and my first language is French).
It looks like Mr Dion cannot imagine he's being asked a simple and direct question. He's not really listening. He is in "agenda promoting" mode, which is normal. But what he had to say was soooo complicated and detailed, no wonder Stephen Harper's message gets through (even when speaking French).
wtf where the liberals thinking, there is no way that guy couldve won... My french accent is not half as bad as his, and if I was about to run for PM I would work on it seriously
Dion wanted to be PM of Canada, yet he couldn't understand (or answer) a simple question, poorly worded or otherwise.
His assistant clearly understood, millions of Canadians understood, and I suspect Dion likely understood as well.
Mr. Dion was a disasterous choice as leader of the LPC. He was unable to properly articulate a position on anything, let alone lead a large and diverse country like Canada.
If I were Canadian I probably wouldn't vote for him. But come on- haven't all of us had days when we were just totally out of it? Dion can't seem to catch a break. Linguistic barriers affect all of us. Just imagine a native speaker of English being interviewed in Quebec under the same circumstances
The interviewer's question is grammatically incorrect and confusing. Dion probably should have been better prepared for that sort of question regardless, however - most politicians are coached to latch onto keywords and use them as a launching pad to spout out their talking points.
"A first-grader would understand that question": when you find me a first-grader who can recognise the subjunctive mood, let alone a sentence in which the subjunctive mood is utterly mangled, I'll eat a baby whale.
@CyrilWashbrook lol... u made me laugh with ur comment... hehehe... well, it is true that the question is tricky but I understand it... well english is my language so I guess that give me a head start.... anyways... u have a good point... but the thing is that Dion doesn't know and doesnt understand the subjunctive mood in English... so he has to go back to an ESL school to finish what he already started and which he hasn't finished yet... LOL
I've been a Tory my entire life but I, like most others here, think that the interviewer was speaking to metaphorically and Mr. Dion was taking it too literally. Why couldn't the journalist have simply said "If you were Prime Minister now, what would you do?"
It's a sad truth that there are few journalists in English Canada who command much intelligence or, for that matter, a firm grasp of English grammar. Federal politics is therefore no place for a brainy guy like Stéphane Dion, unfortunately.
This is a case of a bright guy having real difficulty understanding mangled grammar and logic in a foreign language. Dion would have been just as mystified by the same nonsensical sentence in French; he's just too smart NOT to hear the stupid riddle of such a sentence.
In conclusion: Example: Richmond hill requesting an extension of the 2009 Re-Development/Residential infill plan due to their inability to come to terms with the antiquated local bylaws, based on a large lot character of the area. In conclusion for this very short Blog...IMO Harper you have a lot to deal with your alum...GoldmanSachs in the USA, who which have brought the US and world economies to a halt!! Now do your secret hand sign and be off would you "Harper" .
First of all, this was a stupid way to phrase such a question.
Second, most politicians would have given a BS answer becuase it was not an easy question that could be answered on the spot.
This was totally a setup, and it bugs the hell out of me that Mike Duffy during the 2006 and 2008 campaigns was extremely bias in favour of the Conservatives.
What a surprise, that fat piece of shit was appointed to the senate by Harper.
Duffy the scum bag will now collect a pension from tax payers.
Dion was a clown in this video, let's face it! However with the same questions aimed at our fearless leader "Harper" . What HAVE you done for this country???? Deficit is at an all time high, lending has almost come to a halt at .03v%-vs .06v% in 2008, new home sales are almost NIL?!!?
I agree that Dion is not the best leader and that he did not look good in this interview. But this should never have been released, especially during an election campaign.
CTV is biased and that is the bottom line. It will be interesting to see what will happen if Harper does not bail out the media outlets that are going under. I wonder if they will turn on him.
A better question would be, what have the liberals done for this country? nothing good. And they have been in power a lot longer than the conservatives have.
The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has ruled on this issue. CTV Atlantic breached ethical standards by agreeing not to air this, and then they, "on reflection," aired it. As a person who has worked in a TV newsroom, things are edited out all the time. The only reason this aired is because Mike Duffy heard about it and insisted it be aired. (Perhaps in exchage for a senate seat?)
Of course things are edited... that's reasonable. Wanting 2 or 3 retakes because he didn't understand the question is a bit odd. Granted I think Dion would done better if he would have been the asked the question in French and permitted to respond back in either languages.
give the guy a break you idiots. He was asked an unclearly phrased, rambling, ambiguous question in a language that he's not a native speaker of. The interviewer's muddled attempts to rephrase only confused him more. Of course, Dion's brain is obviously three steps behind his mouth here so it's kind of funny to watch.
At least Dion's not delusional; Iggy thinks he's an American and Iggy says that George W. Bush was a great human rights promoter. No joke! See him say it on our "caught on tape" video.
"At 4 years old" So you mean last year? You sure sound like a 5 year old. Btw, O Canada was originally written in french only for the 1880 St. Jean-Baptiste Day ceremony and the music was also made by a francophone (Calixa Lavallé). It took almost 30 years before an english version appeared. Poor you, you've been singing this song all along, taking off your tuque and all (oops, another french word).
@IceSurfbumb You disgust me. You're Canadian? You live in a multicultural country with two official languages. If the languages were switched, and French was the language spoken by the majority, you'd say the same thing about English. How much more narrow-minded and judgmental could you be? I am insulted, on my country's behalf, that you have such a twisted view of Canada.
@IceSurfbumb Canada is a dual-language country. We speak both English and French. You cannot ignore that. Further, we also have a FRENCH version of the same anthem. You arguments are as invalid as they are ignorant. You are most likely nothing more than a young child with an attitude about things he or she has no real understanding of. Keep these outlandish opinions to yourself. No one wants to hear your slander.
What's racist about that? Aww, it hurts to hear about your poor frogs being humiliated, poor baby. You obviously don't live in Ontario if you have to ask "what is so bad about Quebecers?"
Dion IS a moron, I'll give you that. But after reading your enlightened comments, I wouldn't be surprised if he was related to you. Oh and also, his wife is jewish, now I know you're going to like THAT! Stay wherever the fuck you are, I'm sure you must be a great addition to whatever province sending you your social security check.
What a tool! The best thing that ever happened to the liberals is when this jerkwad was replaced! To quote the great Rick Mercer: "No one can understand our leader speak"
the interviewer says "if u were prime minister today" and the interviewee specifically asks him when he means two years ago or today or the coming election... he doesnt clarrify it properly. its the interviewers problem
It may just be a french/english translational issue here. The interviewer does ask, if you were prime minister today, what would you have done previously in order to avoid this crisis. There are different tenses that are probably confusing him. I know the response to what I am saying would be "Well he shouldn't be running for PM" and in that case, I agree. However, this shouldn't clip shouldn't be used to embarrass him. He is a very intelligent and respected Canadian.
oh yes...its because of a mass government conspiracy...nothing to do with the fact that the question doesn't actually make sense...and even less to do with the fact that you were born hopelessly stupid...I understand now.
Dion isn't "screwing up" he just can't answer the question because it is extremely vague. If he was hypothetically prime minister, his actions would vary based on when he took office, this is because he is following a specific plan. If you deficient little cretins can't grasp this simple concept please do your country a favour and stop having babies.
I'm not a Stephan Dion fan but have to sympathize with him here as the news anchor asked a very ambiguous question. Dion is actually tearing apart Murphy's poor grammar on camera. The question makes no sense and Dion knows it. Dion should have been more assertive and asked Steve to rephrase the question in a way that makes sense. If you think the question makes sense your English skills are extremely lacking.
avenuePad 10 months ago
Apparently, Dion has better grammar than Steve Murphy. His question was ambiguous and worded extremely poorly. What Mr. Harper may or may not have done is an action of the past tense. However, the question asks about now. A journalist with an ounce of integrity and intelligence would have recognized that the question was poorly worded and certainly would have rephrased it in a manner that made sense.
"If you were PM "now", what would you have "already" done..." lol Steve Murphy is a goofball.
avenuePad 10 months ago
@avenuePad

@pavolslovakia Yeah, Dion is stupid. That's it.
Did he want to know what Dion would have done if he was PM 2 years prior, or if he was just elected?
avenuePad 10 months ago
@pavolslovakia Oh, and Steve Murphy is a laughing stock in Nova Scotia. No one with "intelligence" respects him. He was the brunt of jokes after that question.
Just to be clear, the question is not grammatically correct. You can say it is all you want, but that doesn't make it true. Sort of like Harper saying he didn't want to form a coalition with the Bloc Quebecois. He keeps denying it, but that doesn't make it true.

I think this video depicts a man who pays close attention to detail, lol. Not a bad thing. If he had been the prime minister when the question suggested he would be he would have been the prime minister for 2.5 years already suggesting that the current situation in government and the country's economy would be much different. The question should have been: "If you were in the current prime minister's position, what would you do about Canada's economic situation."
fudasn 1 year ago
On the actual question, the question is very vague. I sat down and thought about the question, and the interviewer is, as said, very vague. Stephane Dion said, "If I was the Prime Minister two and a half years ago?", and the interviewer implies that is incorrect. It was a huge miscommunication between Dion and the interviewer, and CTV should have had enough decency not too show it.

Moreover...
blugreenblu 1 year ago 2
@blugreenblu
...I think his confusion came from the question, and it's common to french speaking people. And it has to do with the perfect and imperfect tense as well as the present, past and future tense of a word. French ppl learning English and English ppl learning French often run into problems with these. So it's understandable but obviously CTV decided to remit that from the segment so they really weren't giving the full, objective story.
"We owe it to you" I guess, was an ironic joke.

If he can't understand a simple question, how is he supposed to run a country?
cjkoch94 1 year ago 20
I don't think it is because he can't understand english, nor it is a total screwup form anyone... Just a communication problems: that question, from an academic point of view, ask some abstraction.A political plan is not put in action in 24 hours. Dion was wondering "when I'm suppose to have started, what should I have done, and what"next"" - which is an overcomplicated tough in that context. He should have relaxed and answer "here what should have been done: cut that, raise that, fuck that".
therrydicule 1 year ago
@cjkoch94 What we have hear is Steve Murphy targeting Stephane Deon simply because he isn't as well expressed in english as he is in french. During the interview, it doesn't appear that way. However in the way he introduced the clip it was clear that we were made out to view Deon as less intelligent. The fact that there is a language barrier has NOTHING to do with his capability of running a country. This is not biased, I am simply stating the facts.

The question was not clear. However if M. Dion understood English better, he would have done a better job in navigating this obstacle. Let's face it, Dion is not the first politician in history to be asked an unclear question by a journalist. This exchange proves that he does not deserve to be the leader of majority English speaking nation.

lol, that's why I vote for the Conservatives.
LordWellington15 2 years ago 3
and THAT is the problem with most Canadians in general.
TheShazamShazam 2 years ago
which is made even more distrubing if you consider that with a majority government the PM is basically an inch short of being dictator of Canada (If a cabinet member disagrees they are kicked out, if party members vote against them chances are the same will happen). Which is why it really frightens me that we don't vote based on who the leader is but more based upon the ideology of their party.

You Dionistas are defending the indefensible.
A political trainwreck, if you will.
raynus1 2 years ago
If I were Canadian I probably wouldn't vote for him. But come on- haven't all of us had days when we were just totally out of it? Dion can't seem to catch a break. Linguistic barriers affect all of us. Just imagine a native speaker of English being interviewed in Quebec under the same circumstances
Holysage1981 2 years ago
The interviewer's question is grammatically incorrect and confusing. Dion probably should have been better prepared for that sort of question regardless, however - most politicians are coached to latch onto keywords and use them as a launching pad to spout out their talking points.
"A first-grader would understand that question": when you find me a first-grader who can recognise the subjunctive mood, let alone a sentence in which the subjunctive mood is utterly mangled, I'll eat a baby whale.

It's a sad truth that there are few journalists in English Canada who command much intelligence or, for that matter, a firm grasp of English grammar. Federal politics is therefore no place for a brainy guy like Stéphane Dion, unfortunately.
wingman63 2 years ago
This is a case of a bright guy having real difficulty understanding mangled grammar and logic in a foreign language. Dion would have been just as mystified by the same nonsensical sentence in French; he's just too smart NOT to hear the stupid riddle of such a sentence.
wingman63 2 years ago
"If you were prime minister TODAY, what WOULD YOU HAVE DONE ..."
Dion is too literate for this guy and therefore can't understand HIS poor, illiterate English.
Either it's:
"If you were PM today, what would you do now ...?"
Or:
"If you were PM last year, what WOULD YOU HAVE DONE....?"
The tense of the first clause doesn't not agree with the tense of the second clause.

Second, most politicians would have given a BS answer becuase it was not an easy question that could be answered on the spot.
This was totally a setup, and it bugs the hell out of me that Mike Duffy during the 2006 and 2008 campaigns was extremely bias in favour of the Conservatives.

Zorrachus 2 years ago 2
In Dion's defense the question is needlessly confusing. He should have asked "If you were Prime Minister what would have done differently?"
The word "now" adds nothing to the question but confusion. Even a native speaker could be confused and think he was referring to "from today on".
Granted the reporter clarified he meant for the last 2.5 years but then proceeded to ask the same badly worded question.
But I still didn't want Dion to win so I guess it worked out in the end.

(Perhaps in exchage for a senate seat?)
somewhatlongdong 2 years ago
Of course things are edited... that's reasonable. Wanting 2 or 3 retakes because he didn't understand the question is a bit odd. Granted I think Dion would done better if he would have been the asked the question in French and permitted to respond back in either languages.
jgrig2 2 years ago
give the guy a break you idiots. He was asked an unclearly phrased, rambling, ambiguous question in a language that he's not a native speaker of.

I don't understand what the issue is here.
Dion said that Harper hasn't done anything for the economic crisis.
CTV asks, if DION was the Prime minister, what would he do? (That he says Stephen Harper hasn't done)
How is this difficult to understand?

1:22 The question was clear and not vague.
Dion is just an ex-marxist retard.

This stupid guy was running for the PM?I am wondering how he is running his family.

oh yes...its because of a mass government conspiracy...nothing to do with the fact that the question doesn't actually make sense...and even less to do with the fact that you were born hopelessly stupid...I understand now.
