  • Magnets... It uses magnets... YES!

  • I like the HL2 demonstration more with this system :D

  • huge problem that exists will all technology like this up to date, is that there is a small delay when you move it to when it actually moves. very evident in wii, very evident in this video. precision is the killer here

  • Hmm well now Wii Motion+ is out, and this just looks like copyness. Motion control on a 3D field, and it's 1:1 motion. Not much different here. Wii just released it faster, and, most likely, for less money .

  • There's only one problem with the Wii motion+. It's attached to a Wii.

  • The tech behind this is actually completely different than Wii. The Wii remote uses Accelerometers (and now Gyros with motion Plus) for gestures and an IR camera and sensor bar for aiming. Sixense doesn't use any of those things

  • but this was basically this was show at a focus group os somy underground so we can easilly tell this will go to ps 3.........

  • Nope. Not going to the PS3. They are relying on simple accelerometers/gyroscopes and the PS3 Eye to determine 3d positioning as revealed today at e3.

  • No, this is not accelerometer/gyroscope. This product uses a weak magnetic field to detect motion. It is abit less responsive than the official PS3 motion controller. Nevertheless, this looks interesting. And seems related to the PS3 in a way.

  • I never said this was using accelerometers/gyroscopes. My comment referring to the PS3's Wands. They rely on gyroscopes/accelerometers combined with the PS3 Eye for 3d tracking.

Truemotion is actually superior because it can do everything the PS3 can without the need of line of sight.

  • I do not think the PS3 wand uses gyroscopes/accelerometers either.

And from this video and the E3 presentation I actually thinks the PS3 wand is more responsive.

2:25 look how the bat swings split seconds after he flicked the controller.

It is better than the wii-mote but still less so compared to the new PS3 wand.

And the PSeye is capable of more things such as head tracking and voice recognition.

  • You are wrong. The PS3 wand does rely on gyroscopes/accelerometers. How else do you think it picks up rotations of the wand on the X axis?

The PS3 Eye would not be able to distinguish the Wand Rotation based on the rotation of the sphere at the top. It relies on gyroscopes/accelerometers. Probably the exact same kind already found in the SixAxis.

This does not mean anything, but the sixense guy was actually able to make contact with little moving objects while the PS3 Kid failed

  • May you show me the source that says so?

I haven seen any gyroscope in the controller announced, though it could be possible.

The wand may not be using a perfect sphere, detecting the wand based purely on the LED is not impossible.

The PS3 kid failed mainly because he is trying to hit a MIRROR image of a ball, u know how hard is it? Moreover, it seems like this demo here has a lower margin of error thats all. I don't think it is that easy to hit a ball with a bat even in RL without missing.

  • Just watch the e3 conference again. When Richard Marx first starts talking about the wand he mentions it has internal motion sensors in addition to the glowing sphere at the top.

  • Sony's basically took the Wii-mote ideas being used in a Gaming Console and improving its capabilities to try to get ahead of the race. It's a good business idea that has been used by many previous generation of gaming console companies.

  • es lento...

  • no. es mas natural.

  • lag needs to go away, I will buy it.

  • Its the huge screen...

  • It has some delay, hasn't it?

  • I love the Wii and all but TrueMotion looks to be miles better! If this comes to PS3, Sony can't count on getting my money no matter how expensive. Sony better make Sixense their partner because they could be the leaders in motion-controlled gaming.

  • This isn't a rip-off of a wii. Tracking systems have been around for a lot longer then the wii. Virtual Reality has been using them for 20 years but at a cost on the order of $10000 for a magnetic tracker.

The wii leveraged some new inertial tracking devices and new optical tracking devices to give rudimentary tracking at a very low cost.

The system here looks like a magnetic tracker. Hopefully it will be at a price point much lower then ~$10000.

  • like I said like it or not the wii controllers are the future so everyone might as well jump on. Now or later does it really matter.

  • they tried so hard to copy nintendo that they realized they spent alot more money than nintendo did. listen nintendo makes people get upset and copy them. look at sony and now microsoft with those mii's i mean avatars. lol loooooosers.

  • sony had home planed out before the ps3 launch they just wanted to make it good and not rush it but microsoft did ripoff both sony and nintendo with there new update.

i got a wii and a 360 and the new update looks like the wii and ps3 had a strange child. so sony didn't rip off nintendo with there avatars.but microsoft did.

  • Good artists copy. Great artists steal.

    -Picasso

  • Where are the comments about Sony ripping this off of Nintendo coming from?

Sony did not develop nor do they own this TrueMotion thing. Sixense is the developer of this new technology. It has no relation to the Sixaxis controller. The names are only similar due to the 6 degrees of freedom provided by both.

This TrueMotion technology I'm sure will be sold to MSFT/Sony/Nintendo and other hardware manufacturers next gen. Motion controls are the future.

  • This revolution is a result of the Wii and what Nintendo managed to do with motion controls in it.

Nintendo was not the first company to make a motion control device. Hell, they were not even the first gaming company to do so. However, the way Nintendo has been able to utilize the motion controls and support them through software has launched off this controller revolution.

Very fitting that Wii's original name was "Revolution" because that's exactly what it has been on a number of levels.

  • I have to agree with you. can u honestly say that Nintendo invented motion control? no. but Nintendo did master it and utilize the future now, as always. so they didnt "steal this from nintendo" they made the motion better and the programming worse.

  • Actually, as I understand it and heard, Sony bought the rights off Nintendo making this totally legit. Not to mention, wii motes alike are the future like it or not. So, might as well jump on the ban wagon now than later, right. It all about making good choices 4 the companies that turns a profit, so good way to look out on the future Sony!

  • You heard wrong. That did not happen.

  • boo hooo stop crying....

  • I'm not whining, that's just false. And why would and company sell to a rival company if they are not either merging, or buying out. It didn't happen, and it would've been a stupid business choice. The PS3 can do this because they use a slightly more different technology then Nintendo uses, but its still an accelerometer.

  • Yea I hear u. I can't remember where I heard it from now, but it seemed legit.

  • if so then nintendo sold the motion control rights to alot of shity companies cuz you see all those play t.v wii sports knock offs.and new montion controlers for the p.c that look identical to wii motes but are black.BTW I DIDN'T SAY SONY IS SHITTY I LIKE BOTH SONY AND NINTENDO.

  • wiimotionplus isn't this complex. check the specs for it.

  • everyone "rips off" everyone

    deal with it

saying that im not really interested in this whole "motion sensor" bullshit

  • No Sony fanboy is allowed to even think anything positive of this. This is a total, blatant ripoff of Nintendo.

  • Yeah where does Sony get off competing with a rival company. Fuck them for even making video games in the first place! They even rip off of the Atari 2600,the Sixaxis has BUTTONS just like a 2600 controller. Those fiendish dicks.

This is what the Wiimote should have been in the first place, good for Sony for taking the Wii's waggle heavy crap motion tracking and improving upon it to make a superior product and method of play.

  • Welcome to the world of business where new ideas are scarce, but improved ideas are everywhere.

I'm sure Sixense and Project Natal have been in the works FAR LONGER than Wii was. The Wii is just so unbelievably simple and rudimentary that they could release it way before the other two, making it seem like they copied.

You have to learn to look past what you see on the surface. Just because the Wii was released first doesn't mean motion-tracking games were Nintendo's idea.

  • nobody said wii was first

  • Well all these people keep saying, "They copied Wii! They're stealing ideas!"

Well, that's probably not the case. And if it is the case, then it's not stealing... it's improving.

  • PS3 never copied the wii they had motion sensing controllers since launch (sixaxis) but never used it to the level the wii does...

  • @maddawg579 this is very true, nintendo didn't come up with motion control first, sony and maybe microsoft even have been working on it first. but nintendo rushed to release it first to seem like they are innovators but in the end their product is very simple and crude and from my experience isn't very good at all. i truly believe that it is time that nintendo redevelop their controller, the only reason they did so well is because its cheap anyway.

  • @maddawg579 Well technically Nintendo's been doing motion control since the 80s with the Power Glove, but I agree that the Wii was way rushed. The TrueMotion looks like it'll be really cool, and way better than any of the console motion control devices.

  • 7:43

    fucking awesome

  • This is the future of gaming right here

  • i think this is what most people expected the wii mote to be like.

  • This is what the WiiMotionPlus expansion for the Wii remote is.

    Damn, Sony rips everything off.

  • The Wii-mote was supposed to be what WiiMotionPlus is. Full motion detection. You basically pay $x for an add on that should have been what the Wii was supposed to have in the first place.

  • is it for ps3 ?

  • Match better than the woe..

i want to shoot with that :)

  • cant you spell to wii or what happend there? xD

  • 599 US dollars.

  • the controller cost $300

  • awesome!!

  • This kicks the wii's ass by far.

  • It's easy to improve on stuff when you steal the idea.

  • steal from who exactly ? LOL if your talking about nintendo then they stole it from sega so get you facts right and do some research

  • amazing

  • its in widescreen :S siiik

  • woa this is amazing.

  • There was a pretty noticeable delay between his action and the movement on the screen.

  • i think that's due to the huge screen

  • This might be implemented into the new Sony prototype they were making and patented.

  • One month on, still no reply - so much for this tech ever seeing the light of day then. What a waste.

  • I hope it does, it looks amazing, much better and more technologicly advanced than the Wiimote, I like the Wiimote, it's just...not great.

I hope that this controller will allow for far more interation in games.

  • Great tech, but absolutely no release news on the website - when / will this be available?
