I'm afraid most of the public has this issue at least a little wrong. It wasn't the free market that decided to make bad loans. It was Barney Frank and others who mandated Fanny & Freddie loan 40% of their money to lower income families. It was government getting in the way of the free market, and to top it all off, while there are audio recordings of Barney saying there was no problem and that in fact more money needs to be given lower income families, he denies any role. Priceless.

Obama and Geithner didn't open the door to anything Cenk. Those bailouts were started under the Bush administration through the Fed and when TARP was being legislated Obama went out on the campaign trail and talked about what he wanted in the bill and one of those things were limiting executive compensation. The legislators felt that it didn't need to be put in the bill because republicans would call them socialist so it is what it is.
