this is the most ghetto vid thus far....*snap* the cup turns into a router!!! LOL very fun to watch these vids. I wish you did all the vids, you are the more informative compared to the rest of the guys.
If you have more workstations than ports on a router, you can always use a basic switch. Especially if you already have a good router, you shouldn't have to completely replace it to add more workstations.
I'd personally work on the router manually, software or no software, I at least get exactly what I want. setting up a couple networks manually and all. besides, I also find networking to be, well... fun!
Does the cable that goes between the modem and router have to be crossover, or does straight-through work? I've just been using for years this one that's been provided to me.
You forgot to mention that your router and NIC have to support MDIX in order to have the crimping thing work. Otherwise you have to do that ow/o gw/b gw/b bw/g brw/br order.
Just a thought here.. Wouldn't have been more idiot proof to show people how to go into the network and sharing center and have them go to adapter settings and right click the network device in use and select status and then detail to get the IP? I realize this might seem like more steps but instead of viewing a command line you get to use a graphical interface, and there is less chance for confusion if someone has a wired and wireless network card installed and active?
Was the wifi name greenway the first time you turn it on? Or did you change it in advance because the first time I turn on my e3000 the wifi name was richmagnolia does that been my e3000 has been used before? Or does it make random name? The box was factory sealed.
I recently bought an E3000 and tried to install it yesterday. I have been following the step-by-step instructions from the CD but at one point an error message pops up and the installation Wizard tells me that it cannot find the router. Everything is set up correctly and I have already disconnected and reconnected the cables/modem/router many times. If I plug my laptop directly into my modem, everything works fine (I have access to Internet). What's the problem ?
can u access something like the netgear storage device from say another network on a different global IP ex: Being at a Friends house and wanting to access the storage?
Congratulations Paul !! That was so informative and comprehensive.
Have you ever thought of venturing into the exploding field of Home Health and Telemedicine equipments. Recently two new concepts are emerging Accountable Care Organizations and P.C.M.H. ( Patient centric Medical Care Homes) P.C.M.H is all about wireless IT security and data . It will be a great help if you could start a new series tailored to a Patient Centric Medical Home.

Keep up the good work Paul, finally good to see a US based retailer/reviewer, among the dozens of European, Canadian and Australian retailers/reviewers, keep them coming and we'll keep watching.
I want a free Newegg thing! I LOVE the licence plate, but I would settle for anything with the logo. :) Too bad, I know how to do all this, but it's a very well put together video. As always, thanks for being so great, Newegg. :)
great vid, loved the magic changing cup. dont remember what my wireless is encrypted with but it works great with the wireless card i bought from newegg that i put in my computer that is also completely built from newegg.com parts
Not broadcasting your SSID and MAC address filtering are wireless security myths. They do not add any extra security to your wireless network, otherwise a great video.
Man, I use a time capsule for my wireless and it works better than any other wireless router, it backs up my mac and I also got my USB printer wireless through this router, and I cannot believe he didn't mention the drobo as a nas!!!
kind of funny I know how to build PC's and all that but when it comes to networking I'm kind of an idiot lol. Thanks for posting this nice video effects to
Very interesting. I was thinking of adding to my road runner and didn't know really how to do it. With this video I now know where to atleast start. Thanks.......
I like the 5 tips. It would be good if you can create jump points to each of the tip sections. Then its easy for people to jump directly to which ever tip they want to look at or review.
Too bad the router you have in question is by no means a good router. Linksys hasn't made a good router in years - not since they've moved to that stupid saucer shaped router with internal antennas and no airflow causing constant overheating.
If you want a good router get an Asus RT-N16 or a D-Link DIR 655.
1:03 Paul you tell the truth BELKIN sucks unstable and unreliable, i have a belkin router and adapter on a normal g, if its raining you have to be next to the thing to get a stable signal
1:40 go n, always n, g is for like uh, hell if you use g you mights as well use b, if you got a nabor with a g (i have 3) and you have a g signals are going to get screwed up
2:31 thanks ill just sleep through this part xD make a note for ppl who know to skip to another part ^_^ just an idea
Although I know basically all of this stuff I am happy newegg is making these videos for people and getting the masses educated :). Grats on 101st video!
gotta love FIOS lol got an all in one router that is awesome...router and modem in one and with 30down 30up its fast as hell and networking pc's together is flawless
