Wow!!!! This guy is really original and so unique!!! His guitar tone is soooo amazing, new and innovative!!! I think this guy is gonna be one of the biggest guitar players on earth and probably will influence the rest of the guitar players. He'll change the blues, man. He mixes Albert King and Hendrix so perfectly! Thanks for posting such a creative thing.
watching this is like going to music heaven, used to see them years ago. they helped get me into S.R.V. and i bet he'd love them. mac the wreck ferret.
Sounds really good and like so many others I'm a huge SRV fan. I think it's great they are paying tribute to Stevie, and I "get" the devotion and respect. But I'm totally uncomfortable with tribute bands who feel the need to completely and totally replicate Stevie's persona from facial expressions to clothing. They remind me of Elvis impersonators. Entertaining, but still not the real deal.
I'm a huge - as in HUGE, - SRV fan, and have every live recording etc. to ever be collected....also a guitar player....and 'I've said this before (over and over) and got bashed by many fellow SRV fans, but I do think that Jesse Davey got the tone Stevie was looking for....and he plays one hell of a guitar too... heavily inspired by stevie yes...so what ?....he does great, and Jon Amor does great too....and not the least; The Hoax is a f...... great and original band...love them..!
I don't bash this guy one bit for being a SRV look-alike! there are many many famous people that have way more clones out there that really don't deserve the attention half as much as stevie. At least this takes more than silly stages clothes and a wig to pull off....the guys got chops!
Saw them last sunday in zoetermeer, the Netherlands. An experience I'll never forget. I mean, even their version of 'Come Together' was better than the original by the Beatles, and I frikkin love The Beatles. I'm gonna purchase an album soon.
its cool to have a live video up, to see what bands look like ... but at the end of the day music is an audio thing ... you should try closing your eyes and listening to the music ... if it strikes a chord with you then - then all good ... if it doesn't - then its not your particular flavour of music
his clothes, the face pullin!!!! prob even sticks a needle in!!! 5 guys doing what 3 did!!!! i fuckin hate tribute acts too, SOLO DALLAS is another WISH I WAS...
THE JOKES, i mean THE HOAX is all this is 'n' will ever be...
jealous critics like you always crack me up...it's ok now if you wanna admit..you WISH you were them..or does Buddy Guy come to your garage ...for a ride?
Something missing here, not sure what though - might be the fact that the guitarist is aping SRV to the point where it's pure Stevie, he does the best SRV ever but it overpowers the band's identity - just my opinion
Good . Best SRV tone i've heard probably ever . But this definitely a cop off of Things that I used to do . this kind of bothers me . since its supposedly an original . I'm being super picky and I shouldn't be they are extremely talented . BUT imo I think Doyle Bramhall II is better cause he has a stevie feel and is completely original . Also this guy can sing but they way he phrases his words are killing me haha . im going to get swamped for this so have at it . I was being really picky tonight
What is the song they go into straight after finishing groove breaker on this vid? I know the song but can't think of the name and it's highly frustrating lol
Wow JuniorBlues101 that comment was a year ago. I had another listen, just now, and now I think I've changed my own mind. I think Jesse's tone is bad assier that Jon's... but it's kind of sixes... so you might have a really good point. I'm not really sure, BUT... and it's a big "but", bad-ass doesn't necessarily mean big ass unless you're basing you judgment on how big one's tone is, as opposed to how "smart" it is.
wasn't a re-union as such - was more of a xmas get-together i guess ... (hugh wasn't there :( ) .. but was a great evening non-the less .. scott mckeon was there too and some other fine musicians, some great blues jams and some wicked material from jons own band :)
this is one of the best blues songs ive herd

What's the genesis of this band's name? They can call themselves whatever they want, but "hoax" has a negative connotation. Just curious.

I just discover them this saturday at the Blues Peer Festival (Belgium). Great musicians, and fantastic contact with the public.
