saw them in inverness not long berore they split up for good 80 something, amazing gig,did the whole back catalogue of every song you would want.place was bouncing
The thing I remember about this gig is that it was preceded two weeks previous by a gig at the Manchester Apollo. The Clash were supported by Richard Hell and the Voidoids, however, when this hastily arranged gig was announced at the Elizabethan Ballroom in Belle Vue Manchester, instead of RH & TV, Siouxsie and the Banshees was announced as the support. From what I can remember Siouxsie came on and told us Dickeys mum wouldnt let him out tonight, so we had to make do with the Banshees!
I wish i could have been there with you man. Just curious, how much was price of a ticket if you can remember that far back. Might be asking too much, sorry.
this was my first gig ever! I was only 15 and probably wouldn't have got in if the doors hadn't been trashed. If i remember right the admission should have been 60p!
I think this must have been one of the best gigs that anybody could have attended as their first gig. I think you were very lucky and I love the bit about the doors being trashed. brill.
"Here we are, on tv, what doesn't mean to me? What doesn't mean to you? FUCK OOOOOOFF!!!!!" Looooooool ahahahah great Joe!!! The Clash are greatest rock 'n' roll group of all time... the only band that matters!!! OOOOOH WHAT'S MY NAAAAAME, NAAAAAME!!!
THANK YOU!! this is my favorite band and I've been looking for this footage since seeing part of it in Don Letts 2004 punk documentary. their so dam electric!! the best band ever!!
Many copies of varying quality are available. For example the gig features on the DVDs "The Clash on TV DVD. LIVE! RARE! Vol.1" and "THIS IS TV CLASH 1977--1982". There is also a self-titled (but w/ s instead of z in Elizabethan) bootleg released in VCD format. Granada TV filmed the gig. There are also other sources for video. Check the blackmarketclash website out.
Magnificent post. They pulled together so many different styles and ideas and rehearsed like crazy and then hit "shred". So fun and cranky. It is as fresh as ever. Thanks
This shit brings tears to my eyes. I wish I could turn back time and experience it all over again. Fuck...those were great times with great bands. Thanks
This is really quiet, i had youtube volume and speaker volume on full and it was just as loud as the studio versions on half volume, o well, still awesome footage, i reckon some of their best songs are in this concert.
I turned the computers volume to full and youtubes volume then I had to turn my speaker volume to twice the volume I have to normally maybe its just me!
