Should totally send you the mountains of junk I'm asked to repair by friends, neighbours and family all the time.... I try to not let on that I'm an electronics engineer/tech anymore because I'm sick of fixing some neighbours friends teenage son car stereo to put in his 1994 holden commodore.
@ramjetr Haha I know what you mean! I spend more time fixing other people's crap than my own! That said it's kinda fun for me so I don't mind much ^_^
@RetroRepair I did it yesterday without connecting the pin. I just lifted it from the board using a soldering iron and left it unconnected. It seems to work fine. I'm expecting some US and UK games to arrive (I have a German NES)in order to test it. But, no red flashing, it boots the games normally and when there's no game inside, it shows a solid grey screen. So, it looks ok, right?
@Zonr45 Yes, it will now show a solid grey screen with no game installed since the region lockout chip is now disabled and that's what causes that behaviour.
I have a Problem with my Nes , so whene i connect the Controller to the Port the Game start to play with it self ! so Please i really need your help People of Nintendo !
@anassgame That's a very odd problem! Clearly there is a short somewhere on the NES PCB. Have you tried cleaning the port with a toothbrush or just blowing in it? Did anything get spilled on it at any point? You'll need to open it up otherwise and see if anything is apparent inside. Is the problem just that the games starts itself or are random buttons pressed? What about port 2?
@RetroRepair So i fix it now with changing the Cabel of Port 1 to cable of porte 2 so if i want to play in port one i conect the controller to the Port 2 . But i loose Player 2 :(
So thank you very much to Understand my situation and to Help me .Thanks a lot :)
@anassgame So it's the port/cable itself? You mean inside the NES? How bizzare. It seems there IS a short there but I can't figure how. Glad you got it working anyway!
I live in australia our native NES are PAL. If i purchase a NES from america will it work on our TV's here? I believe we are 50Hz, I think the TV I have is NTSC and pal compatible.
@deegz01 If your using composite video and your TV is 60hz compatible then yes, it'll work fine. The RF won't work though because the frequency is out of PAL TV range.
@james42519 Yeah but according to the documents online it expects ground so even if it works without it, it doesn't take two seconds to just jumper it over.

does it work if we only disconnect the 4th pin or we have to connect it to another pin?
Zonr45 3 weeks ago
@Zonr45 It is good practice to connect it to 0v (ground) but I hear it's fine without doing so.

@anassgame Do you have a multimeter? Because I don't think you are going to be able to trouble shoot further without one.

if this didn't work would i still be able to play local region games? or would the system be strait up broken?
tempestavenger 5 months ago
@tempestavenger You'd be hard pressed to break it, but yeah if you were unsuccessful chances are you would still be able to play your regional games.

So I bought a Scandinavian NES a couple weeks ago, and I wanna bring it with me when I move to Canada in a year or so.
Will it be possible to use my NES on a Canadian TV?
MooseHeadMoosic 5 months ago
@MooseHeadMoosic So long as yur TV can play PAL signals you can use composite but I'm not sure it'll work with RF.

Is it possible to mod a NES to make it run at 60Hz?
RetroBob2084 1 year ago
@RetroBob2084 Sorry but it's impossible to make a NES run in 60hz without some serious hacking. Your better off with an NTSC console.
