For us brazilians all this isn't so scary, it's usual (is scary when this happen in your neighborhood). The diference was that the gov finally did what they should have done long ago: a huge operation in the slums of the "Alemão" Complex, a major focus of drug trafficking.

Favelas and the continuation of them are due to big government and their policies impact on the economy. The drug traffickers love the Favela since its lawless.

Drugs were legal once, there was no issue. No threats of gang violence, crime was low during those times.

America is going down as well as the EU and most other countries that believe in a government run economy. We don't have a free market and haven't had one since Our Central Bank came into power.
