I remember when I used to play minesweeper, and I thought I was hot stuff the first couple of times I scored in the low 90's. Then I looked up online and discovered people did it in the 30's!!
But I never knew you could LEAVE mines unmarked if they "had" to be mines. Almost makes me want to start up again to see how well I could do.
But minesweeper is a pain because a large percentage of games of insoluble perfectly.
@TheCottonz From the four on the left you know there were four bombs on the far right. The three on the top left you know there are three bombs. From the 4 down and right from that three you know the one down left from it is a bomb. (because of where the 1 is, you couldn't get 4 if there wasn't one there)
Then try the space directly under the four to be a bomb, the four and the 1 work however the first 2 to the right of the 1 can't ever be completed so the bomb has to be where he marked it.^_^
At around 34 seconds into the video (when you first go to the bottom) how were you able to put that flag on that bomb? Were you just taking a 33% guess that it was it because I'm still trying to figure out how you got that (and so fast).
@KamilSaper Yeah. I see what you mean now. Because the ones there it can't be anything else. That just stumped me for like 5 minutes before I posted my comment. Very nice job with this record! It is very impressive (and btw have you come close to this time again? I'm just kind of curious how hard it is to do this well)
@barbarianl3t From the 4 you can see that below the 1 or below the 4 there must be one mine. It cannot be below the 4, otherwise the 2 next to the 1 cannot get two mines.
@mfb0 Thanks for the solution :D I actually figured it out after about 4 minutes of trying to work it out after posting that comment and actually helped TheCottonz (two posts above yours) with the same solution. None the less being able to see that solution so quickly startled me.
@KamilSaper As far as I'm aware, it's an archive website dedicated to speed running all sorts of games. And this is clearly speed running minesweeper :)
How much games did you play totally? I played around 5000 games now and my record is 96 seconds but i can't imagine how to get more faster than this. How much time brings setting only useful flags?
There's an element of luck in Minesweeper... on beginner it took me a while but you just keep reseting until most squares clear on the first click and I got it in 3 seconds (I'm sure others solved it quicker). The random placement of mines means you will eventually come across a layout that clears quicker than usual. This video...IMO... is an example of that. So unfortunately...the only way you can truly compare all of the minesweeper expert's ability is to make them play the same game each time
@jaxford25: the more you play, the more likely you get a board with a low 3bv (that only means you can complete it with few clicks, not that it is easy). 1 in about 300 boards on expert has a 3bv below 130, thus top players get to solve such boards every few hours of playing. because of this and some sweepers' ability to be fast on all kinds of boards, their games can be compared.
making all players always play the same board doesn't work as there are too different kinds of boards.
im also a mine sweeper addict. Iv got a pretty decent (and honest) 79 seconds on expert. However, tips for newer players, set your mouse sensitivty to a level that you are more comfortable in, also set the screen resolution to a setting where you can get the smallest view of the grid. This will lessen the time travelling across the screen on a bigger view. Thumbs up if you think this can help other players.
I always figured I was pretty good at minesweeper getting times in the low 200's on expert, but since I never see anyone else play it, it's hard to know for sure. So I come take a look at youtube and... 31 seconds, damn...
I noticed that when you are clicking on squares sometimes nearby squares flicker a bit. Imperfect programming I guess.
Am I the only girl who thinks this is way hotter than some idiot showing off his abs or flexing his biceps?

@barbarianl3t : no, it wasn't guess, it was obvious (u mean the 1st marked flag on bottom)?
