I remember I had a small zoo in my home town. The feature animal was a cougar, and one day a kid got the bright idea of taking a peakock feather and sticking it between the bars. It was just like playing with a giant house cat. The cougar had a great time.

But you cant deny that habitats are shrinking, and zoos can fuction as a repository for animals that would otherwise become extinct in addition to raising awareness of their existence. The potential is that if we are able to restore previous habitats we can select specimens from the zoos for rehabilitation.
