Raymond's shows vary from one venue to another, I was fortunate enough to have seen him play in Copenhagen he was playing for a young crowd and the mix was fairly easy and pleasant the other time I've seen him play it was in Montreal he was performing for professional percussionists from allover the world he played complex rhythms it was really a delight for me specially since I my self am a professional musician the point is do not judge the guy from one performance.
I agree with you that Ahmet is one of the best and Raymond is most certainly one of the best, being much younger than Ahmet he attracts a younger crowd. Lebanese, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Persian and Indian Music have a lot in comin please don't limit your self to 4/4 2/4 etc

You just proved you know nothing about music. His background musicians are playing a tsifteteli baladi (belly dance) beat. And he is playing solo in coordination with that beat. Throw this on and any girl who can feel the rhythum can easily dance to this no problem.
it's refreshing to hear that you have a doctorate in Darbuka. I'll be sure to enroll next fall so I can "know more about music." firstly, everyone has different likes and dislikes. I was obviously bias by saying Arabs can beat any darbuka player. and in my opinion, I think misirli's music isn't that upbeat and can't hype a crow like this guy. that's just me. pish posh
Dont need education to know this music is danceable kiddo, just a good ear..
Yeah thats fine everyone has their opinons; I play myself, I am GREEK, and I am the first to admit the arabs/turks are the masters of the instrument. But I was commenting on your comment of "but the music isnt really danceable or uplifting. " Thanks
i get what you're saying. but you can just tell how engaged the crowds are with this guy vs. misirli. i think misirli's selling point is just being able to handle 2 darbukas at once. yea, it's a big deal and he's very skilled. but misirli, at least with the videos ive seen on youtube, can't tear the roof off a place
