Ha! We never know how many goats we have either! You walk outside and its like 'oh, we have 16 goats? I thought we only had 12'! They're like rabbits lol
I would love to be able to pull the plug on hydro! Living off the grid would be heaven. Providing your own heat, hydro and water ( nice system btw), a garden and animals etc. is the way to go. Self sufficient! I would still want to be able to make a little money for those things I would need to buy...clothing, foods you don't grow/raise, supplies of various kinds etc. But you wouldn't be a slave to the workplace, that's for sure..pure freedom!!!
they can try use a regular propane water heater remove the bottom of it buiid small wall around the heather and use wood is the way i have works perfect
We sold our home and hearing aid business in Indiana, which we didn't owe much on. And were able to do this project without any debt. No kids, no debt, brian is starting an alternative energy business just now, that will hopefully bring in some cash for future projects.
At some point we hope to add on a bathroom with composting toilet, and bathtub! A bathtub sounds nicer to me than anything. If you are ever in NS drop by for a visit.
Hi Brain & Gina, We live off grid at the edge of the bushland, 2 hrs NW of Edmonton. We have a drilled well, a generator, Amish wood stove, propane stove & fridge. When we started, we had coolers and an outdoor yukon. We bath on the front porch in a black rubber feed trough & use solar bags on a tripod in hot weather. We don't have animals, we travel lots for wildlife control work. It's so great to meet you and we'd like to know more about you. BTW, I used to live in NS. Ross & Dusty
I agree 100% and have since gone back to being a vegetarian , I guess I'll never make farmer status after all.

If they went vegan their life would be even simpler.

of course you can, it's a personal choice, septic systems require more money, and some of us would rather spend it elsewhere.

Why can't these off-grid cabins have indoor plumbing?

It isn't that hard to hold a job Brian works from here a lot. And I really enjoy the everyday work of homesteading .

pulling the plug, does give you more money for the things that you want. I'd rather be spending money on art supplies , than power bills :)

@appleseedenergy Isn't it difficult to hold a job while at the same time taking care of your homestead? Or do you make money from selling food?
