Actually, you don't necessarily have to run back to the car when this is shown - it wouldn't only have been on the screen at a drive-in. In a regular movie theater, this could've been used after the previews, cartoon, newsreel and short subject had been shown.
I miss the old drive-in theaters.
There are still some around, but they don't have the feel of times gone by.
