I worked on many of those old Detroit gensets. They are powerful but big fuel eaters. The new 4 strokes are much more efficent. Be careful you don't run it under load at speeds below 58 hertz. You will damage the voltage regulator for the 3 phase.
Very cool, I've got a thing for stuff like this! I remember going into work with my dad some weekends in the 80s and having to walk past a very similar looking generator setup where he worked, similar colour anyway! though I'm sure my dad said it was a Cummins, it was ancient even then!
All you need in this vid is to have that generator powering a Thunderbolt 1003, that would be so cool!
hey mr huge generator guy. im into engine mods and stuff so if i wanted i could take this engine and get it used to charge batteries to live off the grid right? how long would it take to charge up like 20 deep cycle batteries? and then i could make it run off of bio diesel or even algae diesiel oil (look it up if it sounds weird but its true, algae fuel!) that would be awesome for wintery days or near lack of wind,..tell me what u think

i do know it is a detroit diesel. i do believe it is the 671 but im not 100% sure. i bought this generator to run some big industrial wood saws for gang ripping blocks of lumber. sure did the job since its a 100kw and a true three phase.
