After catching up with the first part of season (series?) 6 in my opinion this doctor is becoming more cold towards his enemies or possible dangers..like the 10th doctor would threaten and stuff but he'd always tell them to run and so did the 11th doctor for the most part but now he seems to become more cold towards the enemies. Idk maybe I'm just imagining things or something:3
I feel like the Doctor commiting genocide was fine in this instance. The Doctor loves earth, and the Silents were feeding off his metaphorical children so he killed them (I hate the silents anyway cuz in all of time the timelords never noticed they were there and the Doctor did in 3 months. they've obviously been to other places if theyve destroyed whole planets). The Doctor's killed tons of cybermen before, watched the classic series? and he still didnt want the flesh to die, so hes not all bad
was 'the girl who knew the doctor - who had run with him' not his daughter? As soon as I saw her I thought it was his daughter. It just made so much sense to me I'd never even considered she wasn't - was i just on the complete wrong freakin' path?!
@andyot7777 Except she's not his daughter. Why do people think this. She's Rory and Amy's, if anything she's the Tradis' daughter, with whom he has a flirty relationship, not that dissimilar to that of Rivers.
@zaftra I thought the guy I was replying to was talking about River which is why I said it'd be weird because the Doctor is technically in a relationship with River.
But no, we're talking about the girl who gave Amy the gold leaf thing with River's name on it, the same girl that died during the battle and the Doctor wondered who she was, even though she knew him.
That girl wasnt River, she wud have regenerated if she was River.
I think it would be better if the put the split at the end of the season rather than in the middle, like they did to great effect in Star Trek. But then, I like having more Dr Who to look forward to so I dunno. I'm kinda on the fence with that one.

True, 11 is a little violent. But I'd like to think it was bcuz it's River who is suggestively his soul mate. N moffat's really stretching the doctor's limits. He's actually putting him into war!
Lorna, that girls name was Lorna. Also 11 is too violent; he has no issue with guns any more! He lets River just blast away and thinks its funny/sexy! What changed in the Doctor for him to be ok with that? As much as i love Moffat's writing and the new series, etc, i do find the violent aspects a bit troublesome...

@notamuggle11 He was eleven all the way in my opinion from the get go too, it's the writers that weren't used to the new doctor and wrote him very ten like. But I think they got the hang of it now. :)
@notamuggle11 I just want to say,you are very right with the points you are making, but not everyone loves Ten and Rose.I wouldn't even point it out but they are such a huge deal and everyone wants Rose back and I don't get it.She was nice, but it's over. They were apparently in love, but she got 10.5.He doesn't get her,but as you said, there's no one else around he could be with, unless the face of Boe(which was a brilliant joke, well done)So yeah :)
@theghostintheattic Oh, I totally agree about the Doctor and Rose. I loved them while they lasted, but I always get angry when I see people saying that Rose is the only one he will ever love or that Eleven and Rose need to meet. The Doctor did care about Rose, but she did get 10.5 and he moved on.
Interesting how the name escapes you about the character the doctor knew once, and it escaped everyone else in the episode as well. Steven Moffat is doing something brilliant right now; he is exposing the mistakes of the tenth doctor by showing all the violent tendencies he had through the eleventh, it was subtle in the last series, but with River's whole speech about the word "Doctor" meaning "Warrior" now expresses that message. Moffat is bringing Dr. Who back to it's roots; classic who. :)
@Metroid02099 That's bullshit. The Doctor has always been ready to cut a bitch. I don't see why in the hell people are all "Oh, the Doctor is just posies and roses." Look up Tom Baker snapping a neck. Tom Baker, Peter Davison and Colin Baker all used guns (of some sort) on their enemies. Pertwee went karate on their asses. McCoy - well, he was just batshit crazy and mean as hell.
Anyway, I didn't finish this clip because at the mention of genocide, I rolled my eyes and turned it off.
@PonFarrTime I'm aware of them, I've seen classic Who. I'm just stating that the Doctor had more good moments than bad as RTD seemed to exaggerated the bad instead.
I adore Matt Smith, but I feel like they've done as much as they can with his character. I don't exactly want him to leave, but I wouldn't cry if the 12th regeneration came along.
The Doctor has become so different now. All I could think through that episode was: What? No! 10 would NEVER have blown up an entire Cyberman fleet just to prove a piont. He's so violent. And yes, I was thinking about the Breaking Dawn thing too. I was like: What are you doing Doctor? Don't go all Jacob on us now! Eww.
Very Breaking Dawn with the build up to action that never happens and the whole Doctor/River pairing. It IS creepy. And yet I was okay with him as Ten and Rose, a 19 y/o girl? I don't know. It's just weird.
I think it's so shocking that the Doctor doesn't have a problem killing people because in the past, he was so against it and always tried to save everyone no matter what. He really really didn't like guns.
I really want to know if Rory and Amy raise River and I want to know if River remembers being in the spacesuit. In episode 2, it seems like she is working out what the spacesuit is and doesn't know who the child is, but is she just playing dumb because she can't tell them who she is?
I noticed he didn't have a problem killing also. I think it was so shocking because 9 and 10 were SO opposed to it and big on second chances and 11 just...isint.
I loved the speech River gave to the Doctor, I feel like she's pointing out to him sort of what he's become over this past season you know? Basically this entire season, the Doctor has essentially "gone to war" with each of the monsters he's faced.
I liked the part about doctor meaning healer is because of the doctor, rather than the other way around, and also that doctor meant great warrior in that other place, that forest place, I forget exactly what it was called.
I liked the episode.... but we need a good old Dalek or Cyberman episode. Everything in this season has been new, I like new... but we need some old stuff to ground the series >.>
What did you think of the trailer "Time Runs Out" for the Eleventh Doctor? Whose hand do you think it is holding the Doctor's sonic screwdriver, Kayley? I hope it is River Song's hand, I despise her so much.
I think the whole super agressive pro-genocide personality may be repercussions to something. the dream lord, maybe? IDK, it's speculation, but i wouldn't put it past moffat to screw around with our brains!
I also find the River and Doctor having a relationship weird now that she's definitely Amy and Rory's Doctor. I didn't mind it before but now... it just... all the flirting they do from this point on is going to be seen as "you are talking about sex in front of your parents with their best friend" instead of "River just being River"
I think the biggest chance from 10 to 11 is that 10 would never commit genocide he changed with the help of Rose. I agree with you that its weird 11 had no remorse when he did.
I'm just not liking 11. Some of the ideas are really great, but the episodes are executed in a way that underwhelms me. I don't like Matt Smith, however his Doctor is (slowly) growing on me, whereas I loved Amy at the start, but I'm getting fed up of her now. I think Rory is by far the best character this year. As for River Song, her reveal was speculated by viewers which left me feeling let down. You could speculate until the world ended about RTD's writing, but it would always surprise you.
I really liked A. how awesome Rory was at the beginning. and B. how the Sontarin and Rory are both warrior nurses. I think it kinda reminded Rory that he is a nurse too and that he can save people while being a warrior still. I'm interested to see how that turns out.
you don`t mention how badass Rory was threatening a group of cybermen and holding a sword to someones throat, he had a almost dark vengeful angry doctor style side to him i thought was a great change from being the comic relief.
enough of the wide eyed companions, we need a new type a darker, make harder more dificult choices, get hands dirty like Rory did in this episode.
best line: would you like me to repeat the question?
I agree, it has been weird that the Doctor has been more violent. And while I liked River's speech at the end, I don't know how I feel about the Doctor sort of causing this by being super violent and feared for being a "mighty warrior" and stuff. I really feel being anti-violence was a big part of who he was, and I'm not sure how I feel about the characteristic going away. But I loved the episode and your review : )
The violence and genocide has really been getting to me. We've heard so many times that a lot changes about The Doctor, but his moral compass stays strong. That's just not completely true anymore. I'm glad that it seems like it's caused a lot of problems and has to stop. And yeah, the Doctor and River is so very Renesmee.
I don't think that Rory gets to raise her, because she had such a strange reaction to him at the start of the episode. But earlier in the season, we saw pictures of Amy with a young child which makes me think that she does.
haha YES, that's what I was thinking the whole time. it's sooo breaking dawn. I've never read it, but I've been told about the "plot" and it reminded me so much of it.
I'm still wondering if the Doctor's known somehow about his 'death' since America - I just found it very odd to draw a line under the whole 'never interferes with peoples or places of the universe... unless there are children crying' thing last series, to have the little girl in such obvious distress in the first episode and have the Doctor just leave her to it. It's weird, and I thought perhaps it would explain his current personality wibble, violence-wise.
I thought the whole River speech when she came in was about the fact and in response to the fact that The Doctor is being very 'meh' towards death, people dying and killing people in general this series. Like I thought it was a concious choice to make him more violent so that River could come in and tell him basically you've crossed a line somewhere and you need to stop.
It is a bit 'Breaking Dawn' but we really do not know how old river is. We only know she has regenerated once but she may have regenerated many times.
I really liked Karen's speech to Melody in the beginning. I thought that it was very convincing that she was a mother despite the fact that Karen hadn't really held a baby before the shooting.
@rebeckiiboo you just gave me an idea, what if the young girl in the space suit, who we are all assuming is Melody/River and managed to regenerate because not being in the suit was killing her, what if that was another Ganger? The genger needed to be in the suit to stay alive for whatever reason, not being in the suit meant she needed to regenerate, that stablised her and allowed her to live a normal live, and that ganger would grow up to become the River Song we know?
@TheEverTwistedOne Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd Lets say she takes that name to distinguise herself from the original who she knows is alive and well and goes off to have the adventures we know she had wth the doctor? In other words, it's a ganger that sacrifices herself for Ten?
I loved this episode the first time, and, like you: it's seemed very empty the two times i've watched it since.
In better news: I'm going to see Arthur Darvill perform at the Globe Theatre next week. I will be in the same building as Rory the Roman. So excited :)
Totally agree about the "nothing happened until the end" point. Maybe your Moffat note was about how this season Moffat seems to be focusing on his grand narrative at the expense of the individual episodes. I liked all of the stuff you mentioned but also there was this moment where River said something to Rory and i thought "Oh my god their going to kill him" but I forgot what it was.
I saw a director commentary about a small part of the show and it talked about Lorna possibly getting her own episode. I thought that would be cool. We could see him in the forest...maybe that is when he finds River/Melody. :D
We really are on other ends of the spectrum here. Out of the entire time Matt has been the Doctor i have not liked a single episode except The Doctor's Wife and that was only because it was wrote well. I liked Steven Moffat's stuff in the Tennant era but i really feel like he has wrecked Doctor Who for me since he took over. It literally does not feel the same anymore, it actually feels like it is for children to me now where as before it felt like an actual family show.
I agree that he does seem angrier this season, but it was important for us to see that other wise River's big long speech about the Gamma forest and that there "doctor" means "warrior" wouldn't have any context, 'cause she's basically telling him that he needs to change his ways or he'll end up the man he never intended to be.
@courtttneyy I didn't see that until you mentioned it. That is clever. Up until now I was just chalking his aggression up to him being a new Doctor (which still feels like a relevant point) but Moffat using that trend this season as a basis for Rivers anger speech is pretty bad ass actually.
i think the doctor is so angry because he knows of his death (he had the flashbacks in this episode of the child-possibly melody- shooting him) and he was so happy at the end because in realising that river is melody , this could save his life and stop her shooting him
@itsaturtleknockout he had the flashbacks because Amy told him last episode when she thought he was his own ganger when actually the Dr and his ganger had switched places, and that doesn't explain the whole "genocide against the silence without giving them a chance" thing.
I don't really find the Doctor's relationship with River creepy because he met her first when she was an adult. Though it's kind of weird for River, meeting the Doctor as a little girl. And the comment you made earlier about River killing Rory makes a lot of sense now, what with Amy's speech at the beginning.
@EpicExia ...River explicitly states "It will burn up your both hearts! You won't be able to regenerate!" to the Doctor when he tries to do what River does. -.- PAY ATTENTION.
@EpicExia She said to the Doctor "You wouldn't have a chance and neither do I" in Forest of the Dead, so, the Doctor can regenerate, but he wouldn't have a chance because the power surge that would go through anyone's brain would be too much. She very well can regenerate, because how she died was a perfectly reasonably way for a Time Lady to die.
@Hannahoot I get confused about the whole Time Lord/Lady thing. I thought Time Lord was the species like we're all human - I'm not a hu-woman. I might be wrong though - tbh it's up to Moffat really :P
I loved Rory and Amy at the beginning, especially Amy's speech to Melody, where she is talking about Rory coming to save them... It's nice to have a companion completely trusting in someone other then the doctor to save her.
How can neither of you pick up on the awesomeness that was Madame Vastra + Jenny? I've never seen a character more in need of their own spin-off show!
I was shouting that at the screen. I thought she was really good and had hoped she would be River - we met her for the first time this episode. But I kinda knew it would be Amy's daughter, was just hoping that it wasn't going to be that - it felt too obvious :/
He didn't really kill any people, just Silence and Cyber-men, who are kind of evil. Also I don't know that River is the little girl- she didn't seem to remember who the little girl was.
@DevilzBidin Her "too Breaking Dawn" comment is about how she first meets him as a baby, thats what she finds creepy. Personally I think their entire relationship is based around River just being intentionally misleading for fun.
I think your idea of river killing Rory is more posible now because alot of girls would say the greatest man they ever met was there father and the way she acted at the beginning when she first saw rory was a bit weird! I hope she dosn't though. I LOVE RORY!
Great points Kayley! I really enjoyed this episode but you're right that nothing physical really happens. I remember when they said this would be a cliffhanger and it is but not what we expected. We know who River is but do we know who Lorna Bucket is? Does River regenerate? If so have we seen her but not known who she really is? And I like angry Doctor. If you go back to the first appearance of River in Season 5 The Doctor and Amy are in a museum, the "last resting place of the headless monks"
It bothers me how inconsistent this show is. The very first time that we "met" River in Series 4 she died, and now they are telling us she can regenerate? It just annoys me.
@yellowobject Well the Doctor would have died if he'd gone through with his plan to sacrifice himself in that instance. His hearts would have been blown out.
@yellowobject It's not the only plot hole because it's not a plot hole in the first place. If the Doctor wouldn't have been able to regenerate, how could River?
Wouldn't River remember regenerating in New York and ripping out of a spacesuit? Was she just pretending because she looked genuinely surprised when they found it in an Impossible Astronaut
Though the Doctor didn't really commit genocide, he only killed the Silence on Earth. I think they have more civilizations in their possession, maybe the whole universe. After all, Calvierri said they ran from the Silence...
What a lot of people are forgetting is that River is a new Time Lady, with regeneration and all, which means she's prolly got just as long a life and as many regens as The Doctor. They might not even like each other in her first few incarnations, but eventually they travel together enough and romance develops. Though romance developed between them before Amy ever showed up, and The Doctor was never interested that way in Amy, no matter her feelings on the matter.
The Doctor really seems to be turning more dark, almost cruel. It gives me mixed feelings. I loved Eleven last season for his light heartedness, his eccentricity, and it feels like that part of him is disappearing. I find myself less fond of him. Perhaps that is the deliberate point, given River's comments at the end of a Good Man Goes to War.
I agree with @hopefulsemblance for some reason I just don't think the regenerating child is River. It just seems like her killing the Doctor is too obvious. I don't want to believe it, but I think she actually kills Rory. I mean let's be honest he was the good man going to war here not the Doctor.
@thomassholan7 Killing Rory is too obvious too. I have a feeling the good man River kills will be someone we don't expect and EVERYONE expects it to be Rory.
@GaiashKetoji i thought they meant the doctor.... but did that happen already? or has it not happen yet? i don't really get it. i'm just so confused. now that i think about it. she did it when she was a child. so why was she arrested so long after? so maybe it isn't the doctor? //confused.
@aziangr1 The little girl broke out of the spacesuit in Florida in 1969 and regenerated in 1970. Stetson-wearing Doctor was killed in 2011. Amy saw a Silent there by the lake, who could have transported the little girl there and back but I cannot see why.
About the Doctor being careless about lives and shooting and genocide, didn't some character (River? Or was it the blue man?) explicitly say something about him having changed for the worse . . . okay, I need to rewatch it. I completely agree that the episode crawled along tediously for a while. And, yes! "Too Breaking Dawn" is exactly how I feel about River/Doctor! No matter that I like her, it's just downright wrong considering the Amy/Doctor sexual implications throughout Season Five.
I'm sorry but I think River and The Doctor are adorable! I find it freaky that River/Melody is Amy and Rory's daughter... Like majorly creepy!!! Did you know that we wont get a full DW season in 2012?
I didn't really like this episode. It wasn't very entertaining and River being Amy's daughter wasn't very shocking. It doesn't provide any immediate complications to the plot of the series. The Doctor is pretty much too old for everyone, and he's not exactly a pedophile because he's not romantically interested in baby Melody. Do we even know if he is currently romantically interested in grown-up River? He just seemed confused when she kissed him. Am I the only one who thinks this?
BREAKING DAWN! You are the first one to agree with this! This was the first thing I had to think of when I watched it! (Probably not a good thing that I had to think of Twilight while watching Doctor Who, though...)
Agree that the Doctor seems unusually angry / violent this season, but I like that River and Vastra both called him out on it; pointing out that he's turning into a warrior, and warning him what he could become.
I was so hoping you were going to address how no events occur in the episode! It was very information laden but nothing... happened. Angry Doctor frightened me.
I thought the Doctor's name in Gallifreyan was so pretty. Note the little Pokeball in the center of the center circle.
I wonder if, since the Doctor has regenerated to different ages (well he looks like he has) has River/Melody looked like a teenager or a young girl or a very old woman already?
After catching up with the first part of season (series?) 6 in my opinion this doctor is becoming more cold towards his enemies or possible dangers..like the 10th doctor would threaten and stuff but he'd always tell them to run and so did the 11th doctor for the most part but now he seems to become more cold towards the enemies. @jessandthedragon Would just be a bit CREEPY because River has kissed the Doctor and has been hinted to have had sexual relations with him.
And the fact she knows everything about him. If she really was his daughter, she was knowingly and willingly entering into an incestuous relationship.
Which is just a bit weird, don't you think?

@Metroid02099 That's bullshit. The Doctor has always been ready to cut a bitch. I don't see why in the hell people are all "Oh, the Doctor is just posies and roses." Look up Tom Baker snapping a neck. Tom Baker, Peter Davison and Colin Baker all used guns (of some sort) on their enemies. Pertwee went karate on their asses. McCoy - well, he was just batshit crazy and mean as hell.
Anyway, I didn't finish this clip because at the mention of genocide, I rolled my eyes and turned it off.
PonFarrTime 8 months ago 3

Eww.
KristinDotCom 8 months ago
Very Breaking Dawn with the build up to action that never happens and the whole Doctor/River pairing. It IS creepy. And yet I was okay with him as Ten and Rose, a 19 y/o girl? I don't know. It's just weird.

I think it's so shocking that the Doctor doesn't have a problem killing people because in the past, he was so against it and always tried to save everyone no matter what. He really really didn't like guns.
I really want to know if Rory and Amy raise River and I want to know if River remembers being in the spacesuit. In episode 2, it seems like she is working out what the spacesuit is and doesn't know who the child is, but is she just playing dumb because she can't tell them who she is?
tallatstarbucks 8 months ago
I noticed he didn't have a problem killing also. I think it was so shocking because 9 and 10 were SO opposed to it and big on second chances and 11 just...isint.

Yes, I also find it extremely weird and gross. I just cannot wait to see how it all turns out and how the story progresses from here.

I loved the speech River gave to the Doctor, I feel like she's pointing out to him sort of what he's become over this past season you know? Basically this entire season, the Doctor has essentially "gone to war" with each of the monsters he's faced.

The battle is won but the child is lost"

I liked the part about doctor meaning healer is because of the doctor, rather than the other way around, and also that doctor meant great warrior in that other place, that forest place, I forget exactly what it was called.

@MATTierial Bad news, Daleks are done! Steven Moffat said he isn't using them this series. RTD overused them anyway so why bring them back?

I also find the River and Doctor having a relationship weird now that she's definitely Amy and Rory's Doctor. I didn't mind it before but now... it just... all the flirting they do from this point on is going to be seen as "you are talking about sex in front of your parents with their best friend" instead of "River just being River"

I'm interested to see how that turns out.

you don`t mention how badass Rory was threatening a group of cybermen and holding a sword to someones throat, he had a almost dark vengeful angry doctor style side to him i thought was a great change from being the comic relief.
enough of the wide eyed companions, we need a new type a darker, make harder more dificult choices, get hands dirty like Rory did in this episode.
best line: would you like me to repeat the question?
thanqualthehighseer 8 months ago
I agree, it has been weird that the Doctor has been more violent. And while I liked River's speech at the end, I don't know how I feel about the Doctor sort of causing this by being super violent and feared for being a "mighty warrior" and stuff. I really feel being anti-violence was a big part of who he was, and I'm not sure how I feel about the characteristic going away. But I loved the episode and your review : )
missgenekelly 8 months ago
The violence and genocide has really been getting to me. We've heard so many times that a lot changes about The Doctor, but his moral compass stays strong. That's just not completely true anymore. I'm glad that it seems like it's caused a lot of problems and has to stop. And yeah, the Doctor and River is so very Renesmee.

It's weird, and I thought perhaps it would explain his current personality wibble, violence-wise.
marillbuddy 8 months ago
I thought the whole River speech when she came in was about the fact and in response to the fact that The Doctor is being very 'meh' towards death, people dying and killing people in general this series. Like I thought it was a concious choice to make him more violent so that River could come in and tell him basically you've crossed a line somewhere and you need to stop.

It is a bit 'Breaking Dawn' but we really do not know how old river is. We only know she has regenerated once but she may have regenerated many times.

gix10000 8 months ago
@rebeckiiboo you just gave me an idea, what if the young girl in the space suit, who we are all assuming is Melody/River and managed to regenerate because not being in the suit was killing her, what if that was another Ganger? The genger needed to be in the suit to stay alive for whatever reason, not being in the suit meant she needed to regenerate, that stablised her and allowed her to live a normal live, and that ganger would grow up to become the River Song we know?
TheEverTwistedOne 8 months ago
@TheEverTwistedOne Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd Lets say she takes that name to distinguise herself from the original who she knows is alive and well and goes off to have the adventures we know she had wth the doctor? In other words, it's a ganger that sacrifices herself for Ten?
TheEverTwistedOne 8 months ago
I loved this episode the first time, and, like you: it's seemed very empty the two times i've watched it since.
In better news: I'm going to see Arthur Darvill perform at the Globe Theatre next week. I will be in the same building as Rory the Roman. So excited :)
jamesgordonuk 8 months ago 2
Totally agree about the "nothing happened until the end" point. Maybe your Moffat note was about how this season Moffat seems to be focusing on his grand narrative at the expense of the individual episodes. I liked all of the stuff you mentioned but also there was this moment where River said something to Rory and i thought "Oh my god their going to kill him" but I forgot what it was.
shortymir 8 months ago
I saw a director commentary about a small part of the show and it talked about Lorna possibly getting her own episode. I thought that would be cool. We could see him in the forest...maybe that is when he finds River/Melody. :D
amber6675 8 months ago
We really are on other ends of the spectrum here. Out of the entire time Matt has been the Doctor i have not liked a single episode except The Doctor's Wife and that was only because it was wrote well. I liked Steven Moffat's stuff in the Tennant era but i really feel like he has wrecked Doctor Who for me since he took over. It literally does not feel the same anymore, it actually feels like it is for children to me now where as before it felt like an actual family show.
RawrBootsing 8 months ago
Apparently the next season is very short because the one after that is a special season.
cho474chang 8 months ago
I agree that he does seem angrier this season, but it was important for us to see that other wise River's big long speech about the Gamma forest and that there "doctor" means "warrior" wouldn't have any context, 'cause she's basically telling him that he needs to change his ways or he'll end up the man he never intended to be.
courtttneyy 8 months ago
@courtttneyy I didn't see that until you mentioned it. That is clever. Up until now I was just chalking his aggression up to him being a new Doctor (which still feels like a relevant point) but Moffat using that trend this season as a basis for Rivers anger speech is pretty bad ass actually.
shortymir 8 months ago
I think it starts off SUPER sweet and then grinds to a horrible halt... thankfully the ending is good

i think the doctor is so angry because he knows of his death (he had the flashbacks in this episode of the child-possibly melody- shooting him) and he was so happy at the end because in realising that river is melody , this could save his life and stop her shooting him
itsaturtleknockout 8 months ago
@itsaturtleknockout he had the flashbacks because Amy told him last episode when she thought he was his own ganger when actually the Dr and his ganger had switched places, and that doesn't explain the whole "genocide against the silence without giving them a chance" thing.
shortymir 8 months ago
I don't really find the Doctor's relationship with River creepy because he met her first when she was an adult. Though it's kind of weird for River, meeting the Doctor as a little girl. And the comment you made earlier about River killing Rory makes a lot of sense now, what with Amy's speech at the beginning.
xtimeisfleetingx 8 months ago

CallsHimselfAWriter 8 months ago
@EpicExia ...River explicitly states "It will burn up your both hearts! You won't be able to regenerate!" to the Doctor when he tries to do what River does. -.- PAY ATTENTION.
someone332 8 months ago
@EpicExia She said to the Doctor "You wouldn't have a chance and neither do I" in Forest of the Dead, so, the Doctor can regenerate, but he wouldn't have a chance because the power surge that would go through anyone's brain would be too much. She very well can regenerate, because how she died was a perfectly reasonably way for a Time Lady to die.
Hannahoot 8 months ago
@Hannahoot I get confused about the whole Time Lord/Lady thing. I thought Time Lord was the species like we're all human - I'm not a hu-woman. I might be wrong though - tbh it's up to Moffat really :P

@DevilzBidin Her "too Breaking Dawn" comment is about how she first meets him as a baby, thats what she finds creepy. Personally I think their entire relationship is based around River just being intentionally misleading for fun.

@becky1oconnor YES! When i saw that scene all i could think was "OMG Rory is going to die!" and i wasn't even a supporter of that theory.
shortymir 8 months ago

What a lot of people are forgetting is that River is a new Time Lady, with regeneration and all, which means she's prolly got just as long a life and as many regens as The Doctor. They might not even like each other in her first few incarnations, but eventually they travel together enough and romance develops. Though romance developed between them before Amy ever showed up, and The Doctor was never interested that way in Amy, no matter her feelings on the matter.
djtron1x 8 months ago
The Doctor really seems to be turning more dark, almost cruel. It gives me mixed feelings. I loved Eleven last season for his light heartedness, his eccentricity, and it feels like that part of him is disappearing. I find myself less fond of him. Perhaps that is the deliberate point, given River's comments at the end of a Good Man Goes to War.
JoelJoel321 8 months ago
I agree with @hopefulsemblance for some reason I just don't think the regenerating child is River. It just seems like her killing the Doctor is too obvious. I don't want to believe it, but I think she actually kills Rory. I mean let's be honest he was the good man going to war here not the Doctor.
thomassholan7 8 months ago
@thomassholan7 Killing Rory is too obvious too. I have a feeling the good man River kills will be someone we don't expect and EVERYONE expects it to be Rory.

No matter that I like her, it's just downright wrong considering the Amy/Doctor sexual implications throughout Season Five.

samablue38 8 months ago
I didn't really like this episode. It wasn't very entertaining and River being Amy's daughter wasn't very shocking. It doesn't provide any immediate complications to the plot of the series. The Doctor is pretty much too old for everyone, and he's not exactly a pedophile because he's not romantically interested in baby Melody. Do we even know if he is currently romantically interested in grown-up River? He just seemed confused when she kissed him. Am I the only one who thinks this?

I was so hoping you were going to address how no events occur in the episode! It was very information laden but nothing... happened. Angry Doctor frightened me.
I thought the Doctor's name in Gallifreyan was so pretty. Note the little Pokeball in the center of the center circle.
I wonder if, since the Doctor has regenerated to different ages (well he looks like he has) has River/Melody looked like a teenager or a young girl or a very old woman already?
