  • lets keep in mind the more technically difficult something is the harder it is to bring "perfect" musicality to it, I thought he did a DAMN fine job with this. all the haters are just jealous and Im not even really a fan of LL.

  • people... why hate on interpreters? People who compose and people who perform is completely different. Not all good musicians have to be a composer as well to be good. Being a interperter takes as much skill as the person who composes the music.

p.s Zarethar is a dick and not a true musician

  • Okay, let's settle this debate once and for all. All who enjoy listening to Lang Lang, thumbs up on this comment. All who do not, thumbs down.

  • WOOW

  • He's very talented... A very talented monkey indeed. As are all interpreters until they write their own music.

  • nice

  • For god's sake, even the title says virtuosity! He's allowed to be 'unsoulful' or 'unromantic' whilst playing like this. It's a demonstration of technical skill, and nothing else.

  • I'd rather look like an over exaggerated fool whilst playing the piano to an extremely high standard, than look calm and be playing absolute crap. So haters. Shh.

  • i don't give a damn what anybody says but it sounds good to my ears and for ppl to judge this which everyone has to do is judge someone....of course talk is always easier than doing it...

  • Good one. Oh wait your serious? Gtfo.

  • I shared a house with Gene Fodor once, when he was studying with Heifetz, and so I have a very good idea of the hours, weeks, and months of practice it takes to produce a totally brilliant short video like this. Lang Lang is one of our great pianists. Let's enjoy him while he is still with us.

  • @ngth90 No i love this performance. It's just that your argument is flawed and doesn't deserve that amount of likes.

  • im not a fan of all his interpreterations either- but his articulation here and his interpretation are spot on for what the music calls for. Very impressed.

  • what an ugly technique

  • @Jacobo21091980 i like to see you do better

  • i did not recognise Chopin... it is only lang lang

  • Wish I could play the piano like that. Beats my Frère Jacques by miles!

  • Pointless.

  • when has Lang Lang become the Justin Bieber of classical music? oh look, somebody's way talented, let us nitpick until we find shit to bitch about...calling him commie, chink, heartless etc. seriously I gotta try this hate-thing one day, seems to be fun for so many people.

  • WOW!

  • Why does there always have to be fights on videos of Lang Lang's, lol

  • lol at the retards in the comments...you must be jealous

  • ridiculous amount of skill...

  • I feel sad for him, thinking about all his childhood he spent locked inside a room practicing his articulation instead of enjoying Life. All that for becoming a Nike star :) Bad end!

  • Do i hav 2 b a criminal 2 write a good criminal fiction?

  • Not playing as good as Lang Lang doesn't mean we are not entitled to express our opinion. This is the whole point of commenting. I'm sorry, but I don't like Lang Lang. He is just a robot playing notes, perfectly as written, like a machine. There is no real musicianship in his playing. And this clowning around is just silly. He loves himself too much.

  • nip slip at 1:14

  • My thumbs would have gotten caught up in the keys somehow. Ugh!

This is the best I've ever seen Lang Lang playing without being a silly clown. lol Too bad it was cut off.

  • He's a lame. Look at his fingers... pls

  • @addendum044 How ever did Yehudi and Shankar play together if you say that?

  • GIVE RESPECT TO GIVE THIS MAESTRO, WILL YOU?

  • Im not a fan of LL but this is pretty impressive

  • Explain all the haters that Lang Lang gets... really I don't get it. :D

  • cet homme est vraiment étrange.

    Mais il joue vraiment bien!

  • This is only 73 seconds.

    What a ripoff.

  • As much as I like what I hear, why does this reminds me of circus? This is not to blame Mr Lang, but rather to think about what the public wants to see!

  • Je ne savais pas qu'on pouvait Chopin comme du Liszt !!??? Bravo quand même...Mais permettez moi de préférer Lipatti, ou Noël Mewton-Wood..

  • I really wonder what on earth makes dickheads making comments on youtube think they have the right to judge his playing, how can u not have respect for this kind of virtuosity ?

ask yourself a few questions before you go hatin on the internet...

if i got the chance to play like LL, would I? can I achieve what LL achieved? do I compensate my lack of technique with critisizing other on their playing?

Let me know when you appear on national tv playin chopin concertos

  • @ngth90 not all people have the same opinion. What makes you the one to say that others MUST like somebody?

I presume that you don't like some artists as well... So please, come out of your communistic shell and have respect for other's opinion, even if it doesn't fit with yours.

  • @ngth90 one doesn't have to master an instrument to comment on others' playing, be it negative or positive.

  • @ch252525 U may not like his interpretation, and I never said one must, but that doesn't mean you should not respect his talent, effort and countless hours of practice that he put in.Its an incredible hard and long journey to that stage, and he made it. Thats why i cant stand people insulting him, calling him bang bang etc.

moral of the story, because u dont like his playing, doesnt mean u shouldnt be polite and respectful, and if that isnt an option anymore for u, show us how its done

  • @ngth90 Yes. I'm not a fan of some of his interpretations, but to deny his skill and ability to play this instrument simply makes you a silly. Don't be a silly, you sillies

  • @ngth90 Franz Liszt was a virtuoso. I respect your opinion of Lang Lang and I also respect his talent, technique and the speed at which he plays. But that's not enough to be considered a virtuoso. One must play with soul to be different from the rest of the pack. Listen to Alfred Brendel's interpretation of Beethoven, I don't know if he is a virtuoso or not, but he plays with soul. Exactly the way the composer intended the piece to be played.

  • @scottpiano75

Do you even know what virtuoso means?

  • @janjohandealgenman No, can you please explain it to me and how it applies to Lang Lang.

  • @scottpiano75

it is exceptional technical ability, it has absolutely nothing to do with soul or interpretation.

  • @janjohandealgenman I agree.

    My conclusion:

    Lang Lang=virtuoso

    Alfred Brendel=interpretation

    Richard Clayderman=soul

Definition of what I thought meant virtuoso=exceptional technical ability+interpretation+soul

Definition of such a piano player: please advise

  • @scottpiano75

    for me it's Argerich

  • @janjohandealgenman Would you say that she is better than Lang Lang?

  • Everybody knows that Chineese people maybe is the smartest in world? They develop things that earth never have seen before, so i think that Lang Lang is one of many mass produced piano robots from china! Whos with me?

  • @PeterFerdinand96 I'm not sure I agree with smartest, but their culture puts a lot of pressure on them to succeed and work hard. Perhaps it would be an appropriate generalization to say that they're more disciplined than us, fat, lazy americans

  • I simply prefer any Blechacz or Zimmerman version

  • I can't find this crap anywhere, what movement?

  • Comment removed

  • @ImmortalSpecies 3rd mov. I understand you, I've heard this concert hundreds of times but it was beeing very difficult for me to recognize the piece, I think it's Lang Lang's fault not yours.

  • To the uploader: virtuosity is not defined by how fast a man can play notes. On the contrary, virtuosity is defined by the exact opposite. It's defined by how well the player can play 'slow' movements. How well the player can extract the most musical expression out of the fewest notes. Being able to merely play a lot of notes fast is nothing more than a circus trick.

That said, Lang Lang is undeniable a virtuoso.. just not a favorite one amongst many musicians in the field.

  • @chocotastic Slow movements really have nothing to do with virtuosity. They require technique from the pianist, but not the kind of bravura ability to play fast and evenly, with control, known as virtuosity. People tend to look down on virtuosity as a shallow „circus trick“, but a great portion of the piano music of the Romantic period is unplayable without it.

  • Piano Level: Asian

  • i used to be able to play like Lang Lang, then i took an arrow to the knee

  • I don't like lang lang

  • ahhhhhh..eargasm

  • yundi li plays it better

  • interesting, but this is the truth:

Lang Lang: 74 seconds of virtuosity

Argerich, Horowitz, Rubinstein etc: a whole life of virtuosity.....

  • @iRomaniris Lang Lang is just like a Justin Bieber of classic music

  • @iRomaniris I bet Lang Lang must feel its a real NIGHTMARE to be put up against the likes of horowitz and rubinstein.. God damn it Lang, try harder!!!! YOU MUST BE BETTER THAN THE GREATEST LEGENDS!!!!!

  • @iRomaniris Even I have to learn so hard to be negative for 'a whole life', I will never be able to beat you. You are a real PRO! You are a true virtuoso of NEGATIVISM!

  • @iRomaniris Interesting, but this is the truth:

Lang Lang: 74 Seconds of virtuosity.

The video is just for 73 seconds.

  • @iRomaniris well this are trully wonderful 74 seconds. He is in great shape.. which unfortunately doesn't happen that often in his last presentations. For me his peak was Carnegie Hall debut, when was still not THAT famous.....

  • @iRomaniris most retarted comment i've ever read on Youtube

  • @iRomaniris While they were quite well accomplished even in their younger ages, they all lived WHOLE lives. Lang Lang is still pretty young, he has a long road ahead of him where he could certainly flourish.

That said, he catches a lot of flak for his showmanship. If he had just played normally, I think he'd certainly garner a lot of positive attention for his playing and considerably less criticism. Give a blind man Lang Lang playing pretty much anything and he'll be appreciated.

  • @iRomaniris i really think that LL is not far behind those legends...His job is truly amazing

  • @iRomaniris actually, your comment is stupid and short-sighted. Not really, but what I mean to say it this: Lang Lang is a virtuoso that you could stand up right next to Franz Liszt. Like Liszt, Lang Lang often opts for "empty" virtuosity over real musicianship. I agree that Argerich, Rubinstein, etc. are better musicians. But Lang Lang has always been a virtuoso. The problem is sometimes he is only that, and not sufficiently musical.

  • @iRomaniris optional answer witch was correct to:

Argerich, horowitz, rubinstein etc. 0 sec,

Lang lang : a whole life........ of overratedness.

lang lang ( whatever kind of name that is anyway, has o emotion in his playing, it's like hes trying to sufficate a hamster)

  • i dont like lang lang but i gotta admit that that was AWESOME!!!

  • He's good. Great, actually. But his stupid head distracts from the music!

  • @jtsmizzack Since when does music involve your eyes?

  • how do you bob your head so many time when playing something so intense

  • Lang Lang should be renamed as "Bang Bang"! That is what he has done in the last 74 seconds! :-)

  • Whenever he plays something as hard as this piece he doesn't do all of his theatricals...funny!

  • you remember all the bad reviews when in the future he will be remembered as an undisputed genius.

  • Why didn't he participate in the Frederic Chopin competition? He would have surely won a prize......

  • what movement is this?

  • @pal0palo 3rd Mvt.

  • Why the fuck are there only 74 seconds ???

  • Any pianist can play the notes; but only a few can bring out the intended dynamics..And this is no version to be ranked in the better class.

  • He gives himself a thumbs up about :41 seconds

  • Why does it look like he is keeping his fingers completely straight? That's not healthy looking.

  • He play incredibly beautiful when it's fast but when it's calm, or he play too fast again or we don't feel any emotion OORR too much...

  • people, don't hate if you don't understand. his hand movements are nothing compared to gilels. check out that dude's hands it's pretty much the same... of course, when lang lang plays slow pieces he gets this really creepy look on his face, but still, music's for the ears not the eyes.

  • 141 people dont know who Lang Land is

  • Good, now play it backwards in reverse.

  • @Frank44Costa

    Wouldn't that be forwards?

  • Wow inconquistable talento .Genio

  • from 0:11 to 0:28

i mean really, is this the absolut shit? u have to put charts of last 10 years together to reach that kind of musicality

  • Guys dont hate, appreciate

  • lol i like what he does with his left hand at around @:40 lol

  • IMPOSSIBRU!!!!

  • lang lang is the justin bieber of concert pianists

  • @superman1113215 If he is rubbish, why post comments so regularly on his videos? Have you got some fucked up Freudian complex going on? Do you actually deep down love his playing and want to ride him?

  • @jfxc1 nah man i just love classical music so much that i like to post comment about various pianists, and they're just my opinions, if you dont agree with them i respect it you're entitled to your opinion. i dont love him deep down i just think that he's overrated, i dont hate anyone. as a young classical pianist myself i like to listen to different pianists even the ones that i dont like

  • The beginning sounds like an excercise.

  • anyone can move their fingers fast, he's playing it like a czerny etude for 1st graders

  • in the crowd, barenboim sayin' "good play, bad execution!"

  • If any of this clip's "critics" had any REAL clue what they were talking about, much less one scintilla of this pianist's talent, we'd be watching their videos.

    Their envy's so transparent...

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 so true they remind me of salieris jealousy of mozart

  • Comment removed

  • If he had entered the Chopin competition he would not have made the final. So this is virtuosity?

  • @23ROBDB The genius and splendor of pianists is not determined by competitions.

  • what song is this

  • lol imagine if someone came to one of his concerts with some glowsticks and started waving them around lmao

  • he has virtuosity, but his hands looks ugly and his facial expressions

  • @manuelegirolamo damn true

  • Lang lang plays this piece great there should be another video of him playing this at a later time period.............but he does play some pieces bad.

He really needs to stop his facial expressions it does look annoying...........perhaps he could look more serious with his expression....that is if he cant help it.

i wana see him play chopins fantasie opus 49 and chopins ballade no.4 opus 52. coz Yulianna Avdeeva plays them perfect.

  • minchiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • 0:15 i swear , there was a wrong note ! xDDDDDD

  • He's got admirable chops, but in my opinion Lang Lang is the Emeril Lagasse of concert pianists.

  • @MasterPerotinus why's that? because he likes his performances to look more like a show than a classical concert? That isn't a bad thing, but actually something very great!

  • @MasterPerotinus True. But that's not a bad thing, is it?

  • BRAVO <3<3<3

  • FASTER!!! YOU DISGRACE FAMIRY!!!

  • @Mizzles240 haahha

  • @Mizzles240

    seriously best fucking comment ever

    Litterally laughed for 5 minutes

  • @Mizzles240 loool

  • @Mizzles240 I laughed so loud from this, you have no idea xD

  • @Mizzles240 sorry, what "famiry" means? my english is not good enough to understand it... :P

  • @CRM114HAL1 famiry because of chinese accent

  • @2pacAmazesSuperman thank you, man!

  • @CRM114HAL1 guy corrected me, its actually supposed to be japanese accent

  • @2pacAmazesSuperman Inability to pronounce "r" sound is a Japanese trait, not Chinese.

  • @1iuno2inoi3oibien ok thanks

  • About the only performance I have seen him play where he looks normal!

  • What's the big deal? Did I miss something? I think I'll watch some curling on TV...

  • @originaltommy Try to do what he's doing. THEN you can ask questions about what's the big deal.

  • @SahssYahss You just got trolled, effectively. Idiot.

  • @Frankiee88 *facepalm*

  • Which movement is this

  • @MegaSam1234 the third mov.

  • 0:28

Does he had signed a advertising contract for a hair-gel producer..? xD

  • theres a factory that mass produces these identikit asian piano players

  • Russell Peters will say: this is mind blasting~~~

  • who cares of the faces he does!? his playing and technique are blistering!

  • it helps that he's literally insane :D

  • forget all my comments. This is amazing. enough said.

  • Looks like michael macintyre from the back. That floppy black hair.

  • @tyrcian dont care

  • WTF IS WRONG WITH HIS HEAD????!!!!

  • @errosenn seems like it works fine to me

  • You're wrong. Nobody hates him - but many of us hate this kind of braggart display and show-off, forgetting everything about MUSIC - export it permanently to a cirkus, please!!

  • @Bluetooth6483 So you think he's bragging? You don't think it's just emotion, you know, he "feels" the music? You think Stevie Wonder brags when his head tilts back and forth?

Too me this is absolutely about music. And it's not bragging, it's passion.

  • So... Why do people hate this guy? :o

From where i'm sitting, there's nothing to hate. He's an awesome pianist!

  • 133 anormais andam aqui

  • Wow.

  • so this is virtuosity?

  • hmmm. who is impressed??

  • langlang is a star for a reason

  • i'm pretty drunk but this brought a tear to my eyes that langlang was blessed with those fingers that he actually worked his way to get them

  • Although lang lang makes a very slight mistake he plays this at the perfect speed and energy. No one can play this section as good as lang lang. Even though i hate his face!

  • ..and actually his only 74 sec of virtuosity..lol

  • It's Good but not better compared to Argerich

  • IF I could play like lang lang, I'd be one egotistical son of a bitch.

  • Great! I like it!

  • He has lost his virtuosity now...

  • WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIS HEAD???????

  • kopk888, if you mean mob, we did not have mob in USSR, like it is in America.

We are proud of our school.

I guess you are part of the mob I meant?

I do not waste time to listen crap.

  • kopk888 I am not sure i understood your comment, just got email. I really never listen him, anyway, I was never be able to listen lang lung completely. I was trained in USSR conservatory, among young artists, Anderszewky, Berezowsky, hough, Lugansky, etc not to say about older Generations, like Gilels, Zimerman, Moiseiwitch, etc

but sure not lang lang. AGAIN, DISASTER!

  • c'est Lang Lang qui sert la musique ou bien c'est la musiqe qui sert Lang Lang. ... allons voir du côté de Lugansky

  • no tiene huevos de levantar la vista jaja muy bien tocando :) me encanta chopin!

  • Misleading title.

    ... Jk...

  • strange, before i found the name of this piece i thought it was written by rachmaninov...

  • I am sick of people having a go saying it's not correct music is about enjoyment. Sure you need to respect the composer. But it's music and enjoyment not some fucking test every time you play. The piece WAS enjoyable.

  • TERRIBLE!

"Pianist"( which he is not ), which is Embodiment of the advertising, show business.

"Pianist" for the mob, not for the audience who can comprehend art and professionalism.

  • @liana563 then im sure he plays for u a lot

  • i think that here he's playing the orchestra with the feet!!

  • o-m-g ! ! he is sooo awesomeee!!

  • his hand is like jello
