Their is a great deal of economic difficulty in the black community, but poor whites far exceed poor blacks due to population levels.A minority is not specifically a racial group, it includes economic and social classes as well.You don't know what you are saying.

But Egyptians have been lighter skinned for a long long time. Look at the hieroglyphics...they are all depicted as lighter skinned like most other Middle-Easterners. I'm sure they were darker skinned than they are now. Probably because Egypt was under Grecian and Roman rule, and for a long time they were controlled by the Arab and Ottoman Empires. Timbuktu is in Western Africa (Mali, I think), where most slaves came from.

Don't forget that Egyptologists and museum curators are typically and historically white.

But Egyptians have been lighter skinned for a long long time. Look at the hieroglyphics...they are all depicted as lighter skinned like most other Middle-Easterners. I'm sure they were darker skinned than they are now. Probably because Egypt was under Grecian and Roman rule, and for a long time they were controlled by the Arab and Ottoman Empires. Timbuktu is in Western Africa (Mali, I think), where most slaves came from.

@saosurvive126 remember that the concept of "race" and identifying humans by skin color was invented by Europeans during the colonial period. It had little significance to Egyptians. Btw... many Egyptian depictions of humans are also colored in very dark browns... the ones that museums have historically favored have, unsurprisingly, been the ones that depict Egyptians as "light skinned." Don't forget that Egyptologists and museum curators are typically and historically white.

I was making the point that just about everything betahdanu said was inaccurate. The Europeans didn't move "the black kings and queens of Egypt." Europeans didn't have anything to do with Egypt from 600AD till 1800 when Napoleon invaded Egypt for 2 years before getting kicked out by the Ottomans, then not till after WWII.

@earthfell Egyptians haven't been as dark skinned as other African countries since before 1AD... because they've been under Persian and Islamic control for over 2000 years. Prehistoric Egypt is thought to be one of the first major places where stone age human tribes settled. I'm sure Egyptians were much darker skinned 4000 years ago. His other comment about Timbuktu is also inaccurate, Europeans didnt find Timbuktu until the mid 1800's...so they couldn't have stolen science and theology.

@earthfell Europeans got a lot of their knowledge of Science, Medicine, Philosophy, Technology and Theology from the Abbasid and Ottoman Empires. Some of that probably came from Timbuktu in the 1300's, because it was a part of the Mali Empire which was Islamic. I'm not taking away from the message of the song, or that black people should be proud and work towards unity and equality.
