  • this is definitely good advice however I go with what feels best and currently im 5 foot 10 inches tall and my putter is 35 and a half inches long which should mean too long but I have great accuracy with it and can do all sorts of shots especially breaking putts. If it helps goes with what feels best for you. Ralph has great tips but no one thing will work for everyone so as he says get custom fit. Also you can do what I did and spend several hours testing out putters and see whats comfortable

  • You wouldn't pick a suit off the rack and walk out with it without making sure that the shoulders and sleeves are at least perfect? Wouldn't you?

All golf club should be fitted and especially the putter. That was the first club that I've fitted to based on my stroke type and the length.

Maltby is one of the smartest when it comes to golf equipments. He is responsible for GolfWorks at GolfGalaxy and he is on the same level as the PING people...

  • ok wow, this guy is crazy. he is so wrong. you can put with anything. just pick a putter that you like and you practice with it and get used to your putter and you will be good with anything. the one thing he does say that is good is to keep your eyes over the ball. but dont read into this too much. just have a really loose grip and slow back stroke and follow through towards the target.

  • Nearly all off the rack putters are WAY too long. Im 5 11 and have shortish legs! I need a 31-32 inch flat sick. I bought an Odyssey off the shelf (before I knew about the facts!) and was awful with it. Its a deliberate marketing thing Ive heard-so the eyes look more at the putter when you look down in the shop-makes you wanna buy it more. Seems strange, since I wanna buy what works!

  • you look like you are using a club from mini golf... I think a lot depends on posture.

  • how long should a shaft be for a person 6 ft 2" ?? im using a 35 " and a 34 " not sure which feels better or if that length is even close to right

  • @smellofpissoffu it just depends is you like to be hunched over more or not. i would say stick with the 35 inch. look at phill though and some guys on tour, some guys have really short putters, but most have around 35 inch. just put with what ever you like better.

  • @ace10122 Thats because most guys on tour are probably over 6 feet tall.

  • Very informative. Thank you!

  • awesome, thanks, I"m going to have all of my employees watch this video for our customers.

  • Like it!

  • what is wrong with choking up on a putter does it make that much of a differnce i shoot 75 to 80 everythime with a 2 to 3 inch choke up on my putter dont spend extra money getting a club fit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @cdoght Your an idiot

  • Thank you! you are the man!

    I had a 35 and i found out i was a 33

    WTG!

  • Great video!!!, Check the Optimizer putter as well. It truely complements this

  • So I guess I shouldn't have pulled the trigger on that 35" putter.........

  • Hi everyone I had a 35" odessey blade putter that I just couldn't putt with, I changed the shaft the head and the grip and now it works great, I also recommend that if your putters to long cut it down 5" and then put a 4" extnsion piece in,my mate fox says its better to just cut 1" off but what does he know.

  • Thanks Ralph - I just had my new TigerShark cut to 32.5 as well and it feels great with the new fat-style sticky grips too.

I find the typical sales person doesn't put enough emphasis on this.

  • I agree with this 100%.. I must say that cutting down the putter throws the swingweight off...Heavier heads are needed to counteract this...That's why I use a 365 gram putter head...Otherwise, I totally agree..
