  • lol "my name is Irene" haha Ann

  • No one does it better than Ann!

  • Not to knock Nilsson, but he used every bit of the studio to realize his version. This performance came at the end of a long hard set, and it still sounds great. The version on Heart's Magazine album splits the difference. The HofF is FofS for not inducting this band in this lineup years ago.

  • Not to knock Nilsson, but he used every bit of the studio to realize his version. This is a raw live performance at the end of a long hard set. It still sounds great. The version on Heart's Magazine album is more polished but still has enough rawness to make it sound authentic. If American Idol had been on in 1977-1978, Anne Wilson would have won going away.

  • Having a HELL of a time understanding WHY they ARE NOT in the ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME????THEESSEE LADIES ARE ICONS-MY love for them WILL NEVER DIE-LIKE THEIR MUSIC-THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR SHARING -

  • WELL yes Badfinger wrote this tune, but heart is covering Nilsson's veriosn of the song. This is NOT an easy song to sing, it takes a hell of a singer to sing this version of the song.

  • Correction please! This is a Badfinger song. written by Pete Ham & Tom Evans, origijnally on the No Dice album released in 1970. Harry Nilsson covered the song in 1971 on the Nilsson/Schmilsson album. His version is probably the most familiar. Also, there are at least 30 different songs published songs with the title Without You, but this is probably the most covered of them.

  • "My name's Irene"! classic. Anne has SUCH a great vibe and sense of humor in her rap before the song. GREAT.

  • she can really belt it out !!

  • @mslittlemama04 Hell yeah,nice cover !

  • @lovesheart , what other songs do you like ?

  • @mslittlemama04 i love n sing so many..?

  • @lovesheart me too...I like still like the oldies...always brings back memories

  • not my favourite. Merely good.

  • Listen to Lovesheart...Pete Ham and Tom Evans wrote it.....The Nilsson version is the big hit....Badfinger's version is more a straight Rock song and less of a crooner...Annie's doing what she does well on it tho....Thanx for the good video!

  • This clip only reinforces my sincere belief that Ann Wilson is the best female vocalist ever to come out of the States

  • I fell in love with Ann Wilson that night. They did Sing Child where Ann played the flute and it was awesome. I wish they had that song.

  • Yea this is a Harry Nillson song ,but Ann & nancy could take any music and make it their own

  • @GrooveDoctor77 Google it,it is a Bad Finger tune..covered by Nilson.

  • @GrooveDoctor77 sorry but this is not a Harry Nilson song, its a badfinger song

  • OMG! xD <3

  • Peter Ham and Tom Evans of "Badfinger" helped Harry write this and nobody sings it better than he did. Period.

  • Such a shame that so many people are ignorant to the fact that this is a Badfinger song, that they have to be multiply corrected.

  • LOVE...HEART!! i just downloaded the song to my iphone xD

    @lovesheart..thanks for posting.

  • @AmphipolisXoXo : D YAAAY your more than welcome,good to be on line today,I have missed Ann's voice! : )

  • my favorite version of the song!

  • nothing can beat this!!!!

  • Why on Earth are these women NOT IN THE HALL OF FAME????? They have graced our lives with over 40 years of enjoyment all because they enjoy making music. Gotta love em. Ann's voice is the strongest set of pipes I have ever had the pleasure to listen to and Nancy can play and sing as well as she can write. Pay them the due they deserve.

  • I think the song was written by Harry Nilsson, not Badfinger.

  • @mac5q Pretty sure Nilsson covered it.

  • @mac5q

It was written by Bad Finger but Nilsson made it very popular to cover for many bands in the future....

  • @mac5q Song was written by Badfinger, but Nilson's cover version was the big hit ands is pretty much seen as the definitive version. Mariah Carey murdered the song substituting Jazz diva showing off in stead of the raw passion that Nilson poured into his version. Maybe unfair as it's almost impossible to top Nilson's version in my opinion , and much as I enjoyed hearing Heart cover the song , I think I'd rather hear them do their own material.

  • @mac5q It was written by Badfinger, I hate when people try to sound intelligent and offer up poor information.

  • @mac5q NOT written by Harry. Do your research.

  • @mac5q Badfinger wrote it, Nilsson covered it and it was number one on the billboard top 100 back in 71

  • @mac5q: Badfinger wrote the song, Harry Nilsson covered it and made it famous.

  • @mac5q... nope song was written by badfinger...NOT nillson.look it up.

  • @mac5q It was written by Pete Ham (verse) and Tommy Evans (chorus) of Badfinger; Harry Nilsson heard their version and then covered it, beautifully, but Pete Ham's singing on the original is beautiful too... check them out, they were a great, but very tragic, band. All three, Pete, Tommy and Harry, are gone way too soon.

  • My favorite ever version of this song. Sing your heart out Ann...............

  • @DynaGirl50833 yessssssss mine as well..

  • Yeah,I regret not seeing this tour.

  • The Wilson sisters singing this together, powerful!

  • Es mi versión favorita de esta canción.... es la mejor

Is the best version of the this beautiful song

  • Ann, sorry....Irene Wilson in her best period: young, beautiful and happy!

    I love you, Ann Wilson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • damn this song really kills me....i feel so sad :*(

  • Thanks for sharing this one .... SUPER !!!

One of "THOSE" songs .... that makes me proud to be a fan

Feels just like it did in 1978

  • Nilsson, Heart, Mariah - They've all done a fantastic performance of this song.

  • @lovesheart Yes, I know. She always seems to have the best time on stage. Ann Wilson rocks!!! Love her! :)

  • "You must have taken you vitamins!!"

  • I love all of the live concerts videos. Ann is so cute and funny! *I love her talking voice*

  • WOW brings me way back to a Seattle show when they did this as their 4th encore!!

  • Goodnight Irene, lol!

  • lmao im irene XD

  • @HixImxBlack X^D

  • Need to be more specific. Without You was written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans, the two frontmen of Badfinger.

  • @VenusCapricorn ...and the saddest part is that both eventually took their own lives.

  • @greatestxgift who took there own lives?

  • I LOVE this song and I love Rogers enterance lol Roger is a awesome guitar player as wella s Nancy

  • Awesome. I didn't realize Bad Finger wrote it. I always thought it was Nilsson. Thanks for the great upload.

  • I saw this tour. They were fantastic....still are!!! Wake up R&R HOF and put Heart in there where they belong!!!

  • Ann is so beautiful...and funny. This is, like, one of my fav songs of all time. Thanks. Mean guitar riffs too. :)

  • One of my fav songs by my fav band. Thank you!!!!

  • My favourite artist of all time doing one of my favourite songs of all time. Wow.

  • OH WOW, I wasn't aware that they've already been famous in 1978! I loved this classic song and I MOSTcertainly love HEART! Great version, Wilson sisters! Thanks for sharing this classic video, Johnny!

    Thumbs Up! =D

    ~Maria <3

  • please watch the video "Abraham Mateo (11 años) WITHOUT YOU en Mas Que Baile".

Abraham Mateo is a 11 years old spanish boy with an incredible voice. He recently released his first album in Spain and has been praised by many artists

  • WOW that "Irene" sure can sing like Ann. LOL

  • I just LOVE this vid!

  • yes of course it's your fid

  • @1aerjen1 Actually its Hearts.

  • Mariah Carey...lol Just kidding. Goes to show the dynamics of Ann's voice. She can pull off hard rock songs like Crazy on You and sing this ballad all in one concert. Great performance!! LOVE HEART with all my heart!

  • Excellent version by Heart - and always great vocals by Ann & Nancey Wilson.

  • I have to second that Brian, this is the only version I have ever known! Cheers from Van B.C.

  • You Gotta Have H E A R T. Terrific!

  • every time ...one hears Ann's voice....I mean really hears it..the sun rises deep in one's soul!!

  • @wonenergy Well said, and Ann says thats the best feeling she can have!!! We all love her so much!!!

  • @lovesheart, cool, to me she has always been and will always be the ultimate queen of rock and roll!...the whole band is GREAT.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR EXCELLENT POSTS.

  • @wonenergy Agreed,and your very welcome! ; D

  • Amazing!!!....and that does not by far say it all....

  • Saw this tour in Oakland New yrs eve 77-78! :)

  • Yeah if your a guy you kinda gravitate to the females singin this to ya,at least I do!

  • woah, better than the original or the harry nilsson version

  • not to mention the subsequent versions

  • the original version is by badfinger, pete ham and tom evans wrote it

  • Wow!! Ann's been singing for 90 minutes or more and still nails this one down. But it is not the Ann Wilson show, it is Heart, and at 4:18 little sister Nancy steps up to the mic and lays down her angelic harmony on top of big sister's voice (say good night Badfinger) until 4:52 when she again steps up to the plate, this time harmonizing underneath the "boombox", letting big sister's pipes lead the way to rock music bliss (say good night Nillson). Heart ... best live performers ... ever.

  • Agreed!

  • the ORIGINAL by badfinger is still the best,....BY FAR !!!! with all due respect to harry

  • yes, yes it is

  • Definitely!

  • What's it going to take to wake up the board of directors of The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame or whoever to get these girls put in there? They should've been there a long time ago!!

  • I agree!!! They deserve to be in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame!!! They are the Best!!

  • Rumor has it the reason they aren't there is they don't feel Heart isn't rock and roll.

    Ok stop laughing now:P

Same reason 3 Dog Night isn't in, Neil Diamond and Linda Ronstadt.

I guess you could say Linda isn't and Neil. But you don't get anymore rock and roll that's Heart and 3 Dog Night.

But Madonna with her weak voices and 5 mins of fame was in on the first vote. Makes you wonder what they were smoking they day.

  • @missdebbielee AMEN SISTA!

  • @missdebbielee i thought they were.. wow i agree they should be there ,, probably the ppl ahead of it actually things justin beaver is talented :D

  • @missdebbielee you're absolutely right!

  • i love the way she struggles a little with the lower register stuff and then just sets her voice free, goosebumps, still, i'd say the nilsson version will never be topped.

  • I prefer this one live!

  • man i just cant get enough. i cant tell u how many times ive watched this vid. I <3 Heart!!!!

  • Hey Dreamboatannie101,where u bin?I love this one too.:)

  • is it just me or does it seem like she has an accent?

  • I'm pretty sure they were Canadian before they moved to Seattle.

  • Well they were army brats living all over the world wherever their Dad was stationed. This would prove to be a great asset for their future musical path as they had to entertain themselves by making their own music. The family settled near Seattle and only came to Canada when Ann decided to follow her boy friend who was avoiding the draft.Heart really gelled in Vancouver, where they of course recorded and launched with the outstanding 1st album Dreamboat Annie!

  • Oh;-) Well, I guess it is not unheard of to pick up on the dialect of the area you live in. It happens to people all the time here in the South. All of a sudden, you hear these yankees :-) saying y'all.

  • great band...Ann is undoubtedly the BEST singer ever!!

  • Agree MyzDefy! When I listen to this lady it sends chills up and down my spine - definately the best female artist in my opinion. In Oz we didn't hear alot from this era (I have bought Dreamboat Annie 3 times now!! first in '75) and now I am catching up on a lot of this 'later' stuff from the late 70's and 80's. AWESOME!

  • u understand don't u!! I love how she is always involved with the audience! She is amazing! Also as far as I'm concerned she sings the best version of this! *Like I said in my opinion!!

    Go heart! We love you!

  • where did this concert go on?

  • kabong!!!!!!!! Mr Fisher

  • You just cant beat Ann Wilson's vocals.

  • Here here!!

  • Yeah =) Ann is quite the charmer!

  • my kind of woman i want awesome

  • I love the way Ann interacts with the audience. Brightens my day =) "My name is Irene" ROFL

I love this song and this album. Under rated.

  • For sure"this is a special day you understand"she is soo cute! : )

  • Epic show. Thanks to lovesheart for putting it up for us! *cheers* :))

  • I have been a Heart fan for over 30+yrs (I'm 42)and have seen them in concert many times over my lifetime and Ann and Nancy Wilson ROCK better than everyone else(male or female) and Ann does such an incredible vocal on this song (p.s. no one has mentioned Celine Dion lol)

  • Why would anyone mention Celine when Ann has blown her out of the water on this...and I bet on all songs Dion...I guess you can see I'm not a Dion fan...but...when you listen to Ann..how could you be anyone elses?

  • @MyzDefy Great comment. When you listen to the Celine version of Alone, then listen to Heart's version, it's hilarious. Celine sounds like a cartoon character.

  • @MyzDefy Celine did this song too? Eeeek! Glad I haven't heard it; it was bad enough hearing 2 seconds of Mariah's attempt at it. I love how Ann and Nancy put their souls into their songs and you feel it. The only other singer I love is Loreena McKennitt. The similarities is that you feel the soul of the song when they sing which is where other singers (wanna bes) lack. I can't live without Heart and Loreena!!!

  • @MyzDefy: You are not a Céline Dion fan, but I am. Both Céline Dion and Ann Wilson are for me the greatest singers on this planet Earth. I rank them both 10 of 10, enough said.

  • Heart does this tune better than anyone if you ask me.

  • I'm with you!!!!! Ann deserves ALL the credit! No one else sings it better!!

  • la verdad es que ninguna version alcanza a la original de badfinger ..... por mas grande que sea el grupo que hace el cover .... nadie transmite lo que transmitia pete ham ....

  • I don't care if it's a hard rockin' song or a soft ballad, this is one of the greatest bands ever!

Ann's voice sends shivers up my spine!

  • I concur...man she is such a bad ass!

  • heart was my first concert back the 70s they still are my most favourite band in the world . after all these yoers they are the best

  • Heart will always rock!

  • YOU BET!! :)

  • i think they should be in the rock and roll hall of fame here are the reasons.

1.Ann jokes around with the crowd

    2.They wrote 20 top 40 hits

    3.they also wrote 2 top 10 hits

    8.Multi Platinum albums

    9.1 #1 Album

  • 10. Their non #1, top 10, top 40 songs are better than most #1, top 10, top 40 songs!

  • Heart is everything that made the 70's such a great time to grow up in. What a band, maybe one of the best groups ever.

  • The one concert story I've told over and over again goes way back to around '75. I was at the Montreal Forum to see a headline act opened by a little known group 'Heart'.

They blew the place away. After 2 encores with the crowd screaming for more, Nancy admits that they only know one more song.

They then played Without You and left it all on the stage.

The audience had little energy left for the headliners.

Thanks for posting lh - this is the first time I've heard this since.

  • Wow,great story ,I wish I could have been there!

I suspect that was their 1st big show opening for Rod Stuart?

  • Yup.

  • What's with the Norwegian accent, Ann? LOL!!

  • ANN WILSON IS A GODDESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It has been 3 decades and i still so love this song. Heart version is still the best though the other version is good too. Sorry, but i just love Heart. Peace to all and god bless.

  • Ann was a bit drunk here. She's the best!!

  • but i grew up with Badfinger's version and it's d best.. brings back memories lol

  • regine & arnel pineda (journey) is better..just my opinion.. pls don't hate.

  • What a fantastic performance! Thanks for uploading, this is the first time I see this film.

  • Don't know if the drum sound could get any better than this.. :P Mike DeRosier had an incredible sound and groove back then.

  • If you like Heart you'll like my music. Just click on my name

  • Ma che meglio quella della puttana. Come disse Pino Scotto: schiaffi e calci in culo venti volte al giorno, Ann Wilson fureva.

  • air supply 's version is the best

  • To say Maraih did it best. Has to be the dumbest thing I have read in years. Have you listed to Harry Nilsons version?

  • She did an amazing version but yes, Nilsson's is the best.

  • I like some Heart songs, but this is definitely not one of them. Mariah did the best out of anyone in this song. Not only are the vocals incredible in Mariah's, but it was deep in emotion and sorrow in every word she sang.

  • I have to disagree with Mariah. Nilsson's is the definitive cover.

  • Liquored up or no, Ann's voice is transcendent. Best ever, cheers.

  • could be, I think of her more as a liquor person. what was that in the cup? maybe the reason of her strange behavior, just kiddin'!

hey, I was downloading this song live, from a concert Boston 1979 i believe, and it seems she likes to have fun before this song, because she said, after introducing the band members, and I quote "I hope you guys dont mind: Ann Wilson was sick tonight so Im just filling in for, my name is Mary Smith" jeje... XP

  • yea.... she doesnt seem like a "scoth person", does she??

    XP

  • They played this for us in Seattle to around this time as an encore. Just beautiful. Now in Sept. it would be great to hear it again.

  • Yeah,it would be nice to hear em do this one again.

  • thanks man your putting some good real awesome stuff on here..im a hippie from 68..40 now..peace bro.. heart is so great

  • The original Heart line up! AWESOME!

  • lovesheart, what does Ann sing at 2:21? Goodnight Irene ? Because she had just introduced herself as Irene?

  • I hope Carly Smithson's version is more like Heart's than Mariah's.

  • Ann singing this classic heartwrencher makes me well up and cry like a baby. Ahhhh what this woman does to people!!!! Thank you lovesheart for having some of the best Heart videos on youtube!

  • OMG!!! I LUUV THIS!!!

    Mariah Carey's version sucks D:

    this is adorabless!

  • Heart will remain a definate favorite of mine. They did a great job on this. Although I do like Badfinger's original version the best. Harry did a killer job on it.. but knowing that Pete Ham and Tom Evans wrote it for specific reasons I appreciate it more from badfinger.

  • hahahaha irene is gorgeous! she should sing for heart more often! LOL! shes got such a sense of humor!

  • I agree. Ann is so funny!
