The language is Malayalam. Its spoken by people in the southern state of Kerala in India. The elephant ran amock during festival preparation time in the temple and killed one person but even though the cops were present they did not put it down. The elephant normally calms down after some time and they chain him down again. Usually the mahouts know when the elephant goes into 'masth' (please wiki :)) so they keep the elephant chained during that period to keep it away from harm.

I wish more elephants would do this. I've seen mahouts in Sri Lanka treating their elephants like shit - and they do occasionally turn on them. And the odd mahout gets killed. Rather like when a bull fighter gets mauled by the bull. I LOVE IT!! No less than they deserve!
