I'm sorry but in the late 70s and 80s, people had very strange ideas about beauty. I feel like these two decades are fashion anomalies, because they go against all ideas of fashion and beauty that existed previous to and after these decades.

@Ellie8969... If you agree then why insult me? Or was that not an insult? Oh, by the way. I'm from Poland. Engish is my THIRD language. Sorry. My languages go from, 1: Hindi 2: Polish 3:English. I'm not that great in English because I learned it in school.
@oOToStopANightmareOo No, no......NOT an insult. Just trying to be helpful. You used an English world wrongly. If I used a Polish word wrongly, you wouldn't let me know? I said "Your English is superb" - what part of that is an insult? Jeez.
@Ellie8969 When you post something in public, it ceases to be private business. If you didn't want anyone else commenting then you should have private messaged the person.
@Ellie8969? Opaldreamsofpeace is right, and what's spoken here can be seen worldwide. Methinks it's be best to be kind to others, whether it's real life or the internet. It keeps you from rather insulting titles regarding character. Also, I'd like to point out that it's rather frowned upon to be that sarcastic to anyone (just guessing there) online or off. And trust me when I say that, because all of it comes from plenty of experience, though the insulting title went to previous friend of mine.
@RedNativeRose Typos and spelling mistakes have nothing to do with intelligence. In fact several reputable scientists through out history and to this day have made and still make spelling mistakes all the time.
@RedNativeRose actually what's ironic is that you spelt "intellegent" wrong when you were trying to correct this person's misspelling of "inteligent". For the record it is spelt intelligent!
@AmoritoDeJakob I agree, I am Polish and speak 3 languages. But, English is the second language of the world. Kids in America ARE TEACHED languages (such as Spanish) that would be helpful. I think if you MUST learn a lanuage it shoud be a necessary one. Such as, Chinese,English, or Spanish. But if you just WANT to learn a language, learn anyone you want!
We (Americans) don't speak one or more language because there is no need for us to. A lot of Europeans know more than one language because all those countries are so close together. I live in Michigan. What good would it be if I learned Chinese, or German? It's all about how often you would need to know a language. Most people learn another language out of necessity because as a country we are pretty isolated.
@Tbonegirl28 yes, but with so many immigrants coming into the United States, i think it is starting to become necessary for us to learn more languages. Learning languages shouldn't be about necessity, it's about opening your doors to other places, and people. English is still the go to language for many countries when it comes to communication but the more we Americans learn other languages, the better.
@007VLQ Agreed. I was mostly trying to just say why european people are taught more than one language from an early age. I understand that the world seems to get smaller and smaller with every passing year.
@Tbonegirl28 you're so right! I'm Dutch so I kinda have to speak more languages. At school we learn English, French and German, so most teenagers here can speak 4 languages! (:
@Tbonegirl28 What? I love in Argentina and we don't have english speaking country near my country, so? I know english. And you, us citizens should know spanish or another lenguage, because YOUR country (US, not America, America is a continent) has a lot of tourist, and when people doesn't know english you complain, but when you go to ANOTHER country and people don't know english you also complain, when in fact they should be the ones complaining that you don't know another lenguage.
@Flor1395 Sorry bout that. I have a bad habit of calling myself an American, which isn't really incorrect. I know the difference between a country and a continent. I'm not saying it's an excuse to being ignorant. I personally don't complain when people don't know english because they're just visiting. If I was traveling abroad I would at least learn phrases. We're (US citizens) not all the same. You know what they say about making assumptions.
@Tbonegirl28 It's ok :) but it kinda bothers me when they say America haha, don't worry. About the other thing, idk, I've never been on the USA but from what I've read on the internet a lot of people from there complain about people not knowing english so :/ sorry if I sounded mean or something like that! wasn't trying to offend you.
@Tbonegirl28 Also, you have Canada that's pretty close to the USA as I know, and they speak french also, and... wait! Mexico is close to you guys too! And... they speak spanish so... don't say your country is isolated because it isn't :)
@Flor1395 Most of Canada speaks english and I live in Michigan. I've never run into anybody that strictly spoke spanish. It's strictly about location and not as many people travel hundreds of miles to visit another country as much as you'd like to believe.
Holy--that's a wonderful side on how times have changed. Nowadays they wouldn't even let an old Miss contestant to even speak a whole monologue in front of television and seem confident and actually making sense in her words. Why do most English speaking people think that everyone should speak English? We're so lazy it's ridiculous! It's nothing to do with it being widely spoken, it would all just be for our benefit. Considering Chinese is in fact a more "universal" language than English is, it would be more justifiable that a Chinese speaking person came on here and said " 如果你不能说中国,你不值得取胜。每个人学习中文,因为我是一个懒惰的屁股,谁也懒得花一点时间来学习第二语言。" Aha
@24someguy. Actually the most Spoken language in the world is Mandarin Chinese, the second most is hindi. And universal doesn't mean majority, it means all. Like maths is a universal language because every single person/language/culture uses maths.
@youbetzler not really base 10 decimal based math isn't the only kind of math, when NASA send the probe into deep space, they included primers to explain the math used is base 10. computer for example use float point, and even those are based on IEEE standard, there are other ways of writing float point too. we tend to forget that because we "agreed" that the number should be written in certain ways, but it is hardly universal, it is a man-made standard that can change, as such base 64 in new pc
@akinkhoo you are talking about interpretations of the language. No matter what base system or language you use if you have one item and add another item you have two items
@youbetzler yet you have to define ADD as +... you think alien or pre-discovery american understand that? therefore you need primers, and that is my point, even math has to be descripted before it can be understood.
if I were to say, "planet has mass" in every language, that too will be true in every language too, but you still will not understand it is true until you understand the language, for the same case, you cannot understand if an equation is true or false, until you actually understand the symbol and bases use in the equation. you cannot argue universal understanding when there is none. I think humans are losing critical thinking because we all think the same way now, and that is sad.
@akinkhoo yes but the concept is universal. The description is not the language of maths, the concepts are. And no matter what language you have the concepts are the same to an alien to a native american to a dog the concept is still the same the language of maths is unchanging
@youbetzler you can't argue concept to mean the same as understanding. as said, the concept that planet has mass can too be communicated in any language, concept are not the problem, the problem is communication, and math cannot be communicated without it's primers anymore than languages can, that is the point. if you want to argue NASA is wrong, and they did not need to include primers in their communication broadcast to outer space, you can take it up to them, but I believe they are correct.
@akinkhoo you are not understanding what i'm talking about. I'm not talking about communication. The planet has a mass is a universal truth. Mathematics is a universal language that is unchanging no matter what the primers are. You are focusing on interpretation not the actual language of numbers and numeric value
@VoidedPrincess and that's why: We (the rest of the world) speak two or more languages.. and most of americans don't. And if english is a must, another language is a plus
@AmoritoDeJakob Knowing how to speak multiple languages takes up brain space that might be used for taking up other subjects or forming a profounder understanding of one specific field. Most people only have so much capacity to remember things; why waste that capacity on memorizing another language? In America it's not really necessary. Besides maybe Florida, Texas, and Cali we don't regularly encounter people who don't have english as their mother lang.
@pacifiedfools Brains do not equal computers. People who know multiple languages do not have less "space" to learn anything else, if anything their ability to be mentally flexible allows them a greater capacity for grasping complicated and unfamiliar concepts. The only argument that could be made is one of the time it takes, and even then it's a bit arbitrary to say that learning one skill is time wasted learning another.
@AmoritoDeJakob we are required to learn a lanuage in school ,typically spanish or french but the choice is yours. Most of us just dont need to use that later on so we forget. I know some people in my highschool that speak three or four languages. It's just you never hear of us, that doesnt mean that alot of us don't. My dad had to learn apanish jsut to be able to sell more jewlery in a city in Florida because a lot of people speak spanish there
@VoidedPrincess Wow i only speak English and come from a primarily english speaking country (Australia). And even i think that is retarded. Less than 10% of the worlds countries have english as it's national language, and you think that makes it a universal language?
English is the universal language, it has the highest percentage of countries with people able to speak it than any other language, just because it isn't a countries national language doesn't mean the people cant speak it.
@VoidedPrincess Oh poor you. You better do some research before making stupid statements. I suggest reading about the state of spanish around the world in 2010. I think you might be surpirsed.
And if you live in the U.S., you might be extra surprised. Happy reading!
LoL Obviously he's from panama and this is a pride video for his country. But to tell the owner of this video, there is no such thing as "BEST INTELLIGENT" answer in pageant questions because usually they would ask philosopical questions, meaning the kind of questions that don't have a correct answer. So as much as we think that a candidate's answer is wrong, it cannot be wrong because they are always ask for their opinion. I hope i'm making a sense, I can't fit my point in here.
@popups46okay - i think the uploader meant " answers that makes the most sense" or most appealing..." most impressive"...in fairness to the contestant - it's an intelligent answer - it has a punchline....so that's good...
i think the title should be " THE MOST INTELLIGENT ANSWER IN A BEAUTY PEAGENT IN HISTORY", not "THE BEST INTELIGENT ANSWER IN A BEAUTY PEAGENT IN HISTORY" hehe
@tamoorrip In 1986 it was common to view *natural* women, the way god made them, as beautiful. Brooke Shields' natural eyebrows were considered normal and sexy. It's only the 21st century that has distorted reality.
if the contestant doesn't know how to speak english they don't deserve to win..if they need interpreter they don't deserve to win,,who knows the interpreter is intelligent and he/she change the answer of the candidates, right?u get it?
barbara undoubtedly answered the question very well but have you tried watching again and analyzing sushmita sen's answer in her interview and the two final questions. it was as inteliigent if not far more intelligent than barbara's answer.
Undoubtedly one of the best answers from all the pageants, and its well known that Venezuelan contestants can deliver great answers by adding their own trademark. But here have been other contestants (from other countries)whose charisma made their interviews just as great as this one (ieg. Eleonora Carrillo/ El Salvador).
But what it is really great about this, is that she showed a lot of poise , just sticking to the question, no cliches, without making a fool of her (ieg. Inés Calero 2007 ).
Unique "BACK to BACK " Miss Universe: DAYANA MENDOZA - STEFANIA FERNANDEZ, 2008-09, the first would have been:
CAROLINA IZSAK - MILKA CHULINA, from 1992-93, Single "triplet" was winner ALICIA MACHADO - MARENA BENCOMO - VERUZCA RAMIREZ, both finalists 1, 1996, 97 and 98, all from VENEZUELA!
IZSAK swept the entire year, your final answer very personal the ranked from 1 to 4 th place; CHULINA, her dress did not please, BENCOMO, the U.S. response funny and RAMÍREZ wanted to win the black woman!
That's why she won and she's one of our best pictures to sell Venezuela... it's a shame that Venezuelan 21st century misses dont' follow her example... they have a big hole in what we call brain. It's a real shame that we only can export beauty and oil... and the intelligence falls apart. It's a real shame that nowadays people use politics to separate people and not to make ONE nation.
But that's my country now, thanks to our dear mr. president (he does not deserve capital letters).
BARBARA didn't answer to jury, but it was only interview competition, she was talking with host, not jury. LUPITA answered final question to jury like anyone else in pageant history.
@francisco9893 for many years parker asked the questions, not the judges, she answered him what he asked her.later the M.U changed the way questions were asked. stop comparing lupita and ximena to the venezuelan miss universes....all of them gave the best answers and each one of them won the crown for their countries, be proud instead.
@jadetanchannel I don't know. But he's a professional. He translated Barbara Palacios's answer in 1986 and Jimena Navarrete's, now in 2010. Twenty five years, even more, working to Miss Universe Organization, translating the latin contestants' response.
@jadetanchannel He has been translating in the MU since 1980's. He was a partner of the de la vega translating services but in 1997 he left the company and opened his own firm (precision translating services) taht is still connected to the MU organization. He was better before than today because in the past he waited for teh candidate to finish the answer before translating then but now, he just interep then and translate them. I don't know if the age matters because he is now old.
Indeed, it's a very smart answer..As panamanian, I admit tha Barbara's response was brilliant (obviously we've to take in consideraton that she already was a professional of publicity at the time of this constest), but this answer is not better than the answer of Mpule Kwelagobe in 1999, Lada Dutta in 2000 and Wendy Fitzwilliams in 1998.... Three of the most terrific answers I have ever heard (in order of preference)
@zulaymarie hey, this is 1986 !!! and no matter how many time passes bay. she for sure will remain as one of the most outstanding Miss Universe ever. beautiful and tranquil, just precious !!!
Felicidades a Venezuela.
VERY good answer from MISS VENEZUELA, but BEST ANSVER EVER MADE was on MISS UNIVERSE 1991, by MISS MEXICO LUPITA JONES about biggest problem facing her country that moment, she very smart answed NAFTA FREE TRADE arrangments those days proving she not only beauty but very smart and intelligent.
I'm sorry but in the late 70s and 80s, people had very strange ideas about beauty. I feel like these two decades are fashion anomalies, because they go against all ideas of fashion and beauty that existed previous to and after these decades.

@24someguy. Actually the most Spoken language in the world is Mandarin Chinese, the second most is hindi. And universal doesn't mean majority, it means all. Like maths is a universal language because every single person/language/culture uses maths.
youbetzler 3 months ago
@youbetzler not really base 10 decimal based math isn't the only kind of math, when NASA send the probe into deep space, they included primers to explain the math used is base 10. computer for example use float point, and even those are based on IEEE standard, there are other ways of writing float point too. we tend to forget that because we "agreed" that the number should be written in certain ways, but it is hardly universal, it is a man-made standard that can change, as such base 64 in new pc
akinkhoo 3 months ago
@akinkhoo not that it matters of course. everything is man-made...
akinkhoo 3 months ago
@akinkhoo you are talking about interpretations of the language. No matter what base system or language you use if you have one item and add another item you have two items
youbetzler 3 months ago
@youbetzler yet you have to define ADD as +... you think alien or pre-discovery american understand that? therefore you need primers, and that is my point, even math has to be descripted before it can be understood.
akinkhoo 3 months ago
if I were to say, "planet has mass" in every language, that too will be true in every language too, but you still will not understand it is true until you understand the language, for the same case, you cannot understand if an equation is true or false, until you actually understand the symbol and bases use in the equation. you cannot argue universal understanding when there is none. I think humans are losing critical thinking because we all think the same way now, and that is sad.
akinkhoo 3 months ago
@akinkhoo yes but the concept is universal. The description is not the language of maths, the concepts are. And no matter what language you have the concepts are the same to an alien to a native american to a dog the concept is still the same the language of maths is unchanging
youbetzler 3 months ago
@youbetzler you can't argue concept to mean the same as understanding. as said, the concept that planet has mass can too be communicated in any language, concept are not the problem, the problem is communication, and math cannot be communicated without it's primers anymore than languages can, that is the point. if you want to argue NASA is wrong, and they did not need to include primers in their communication broadcast to outer space, you can take it up to them, but I believe they are correct.
akinkhoo 3 months ago
@akinkhoo you are not understanding what i'm talking about. I'm not talking about communication. The planet has a mass is a universal truth. Mathematics is a universal language that is unchanging no matter what the primers are. You are focusing on interpretation not the actual language of numbers and numeric value
youbetzler 3 months ago
English is the universal language -.- Spanish class is only an option in schools but English is a must.
VoidedPrincess 3 months ago
@VoidedPrincess and that's why: We (the rest of the world) speak two or more languages.. and most of americans don't. And if english is a must, another language is a plus
AmoritoDeJakob 3 months ago 36
@AmoritoDeJakob Knowing how to speak multiple languages takes up brain space that might be used for taking up other subjects or forming a profounder understanding of one specific field. Most people only have so much capacity to remember things; why waste that capacity on memorizing another language? In America it's not really necessary. Besides maybe Florida, Texas, and Cali we don't regularly encounter people who don't have english as their mother lang.
pacifiedfools 2 months ago
@pacifiedfools Brains do not equal computers. People who know multiple languages do not have less "space" to learn anything else, if anything their ability to be mentally flexible allows them a greater capacity for grasping complicated and unfamiliar concepts. The only argument that could be made is one of the time it takes, and even then it's a bit arbitrary to say that learning one skill is time wasted learning another.
Tahemet1491 2 months ago 3
@AmoritoDeJakob we are required to learn a lanuage in school ,typically spanish or french but the choice is yours. Most of us just dont need to use that later on so we forget. I know some people in my highschool that speak three or four languages. It's just you never hear of us, that doesnt mean that alot of us don't. My dad had to learn apanish jsut to be able to sell more jewlery in a city in Florida because a lot of people speak spanish there
marmar13245 1 month ago
@VoidedPrincess Wow i only speak English and come from a primarily english speaking country (Australia). And even i think that is retarded. Less than 10% of the worlds countries have english as it's national language, and you think that makes it a universal language?

English is the universal language, it has the highest percentage of countries with people able to speak it than any other language, just because it isn't a countries national language doesn't mean the people cant speak it.
24someguy 3 months ago
@VoidedPrincess Oh poor you. You better do some research before making stupid statements. I suggest reading about the state of spanish around the world in 2010. I think you might be surpirsed.
And if you live in the U.S., you might be extra surprised. Happy reading!

SORRY: I Stand Corrected. (I should've said, In pageant they only ask questions that DONT HAVE a correct or incorrect answer) It's all neutral.
popups46okay 4 months ago
LoL Obviously he's from panama and this is a pride video for his country. But to tell the owner of this video, there is no such thing as "BEST INTELLIGENT" answer in pageant questions because usually they would ask philosopical questions, meaning the kind of questions that don't have a correct answer. So as much as we think that a candidate's answer is wrong, it cannot be wrong because they are always ask for their opinion. I hope i'm making a sense, I can't fit my point in here.
popups46okay 4 months ago
@popups46okay - i think the uploader meant " answers that makes the most sense" or most appealing..." most impressive"...in fairness to the contestant - it's an intelligent answer - it has a punchline....so that's good...

elmer9764 10 months ago

Adonisgo 11 months ago
That's why she won and she's one of our best pictures to sell Venezuela... it's a shame that Venezuelan 21st century misses dont' follow her example... they have a big hole in what we call brain. It's a real shame that we only can export beauty and oil... and the intelligence falls apart. It's a real shame that nowadays people use politics to separate people and not to make ONE nation.
But that's my country now, thanks to our dear mr. president (he does not deserve capital letters).

BARBARA didn't answer to jury, but it was only interview competition, she was talking with host, not jury. LUPITA answered final question to jury like anyone else in pageant history.
francisco9893 1 year ago
@francisco9893 for many years parker asked the questions, not the judges, she answered him what he asked her.later the M.U changed the way questions were asked. stop comparing lupita and ximena to the venezuelan miss universes....all of them gave the best answers and each one of them won the crown for their countries, be proud instead.

principesinreyno 1 year ago
