Some bars that serve booze are only allowed to have minors in until a certain time. Also, the "crime reduction" is probably more intended to prevent crimes against youth, seeing as they're more vulnerable, as opposed to preventing them from causing anything. It's the same reason that you don't let your 5 year old kid into a busy shopping mall without supervision. There are idiot parents, and so what, there are shitty laws. There are more ridiculous laws, like the banning of homosexual marriage.
I'll agree with you. Altogether, I'm 100% opposed to any curfew, especially those set by the government. Parents do have limited authority to set curfews. But, it should be up to them and them alone to enforce them on the teens; no help from the Nanny State.

I have lived in cities with curfews and I feel it did a good job with controlling crime. In all honesty, I feel that you are right. The government has no right. It is up to the parents to make sure their kids are in the house. But, where are the parents these days??

It doesn't seem right that a government should be able to discriminate based on age. I think I even remember hearing somewhere that our government can't do that... anyway, I agree.

You are correct, the nanny state here is totally out of control. The government has taken the place of parenting and now decides peoples' bedtimes.
Disclosure: I had 3 curfew tickets before I turned 18. One was for being at a coffee shop.
