  • I feel like a walking giant.

  • Takoyaki!! Did I just see takoyaki? Ohh man, how I would love to have some takoyaki... Are they really that great as I think they are?

  • Hahaha, I went crazy when I went to Kiyomizudera more than a year ago. I loved everything there. People always talk about Tokyo, but really Kyoto is where it's at. 8)

  • Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the WORLDS TALLEST GAIJIN! ;D

    But anyway, awesome video:p

  • Welcome to Diagon Alley.

  • I like it.

  • thanks for this nice video, it shows a more wholesome view of things than just viewed from normal height.

  • Awesome! I actually tried doing this in The Netherlands as well last Summer but it's just no good: instead of just going about their business people will all stare up and make remarks. *sigh* ;)

  • This is how Japan looks from a gaijin's eyes.

  • this is as if you where a gaint walking up the street. LOL i really believed you were a gaint in my mind LOL

  • i think i went here, i cant remember haha

but i remember those rikshaw guys! they were kind of annoying always pestering us to ride their rikshaw

  • Invisible Godzilla is walking through town

  • Invisible Godzilla is walking trough town

  • Cool, looks great from up high like that!

  • Is it just me or do Japan utility lines seem neater than their American counterparts?

  • lol did you steal Radrey's baton??? XD

  • @Ido013

Dude, I've been doing this long before Radrey. Check out the footage of my NAKED MATSURI... 2009. The overheard monopod shots are amazing!

  • @Utsukushiisora

I heard it too, but it's not me.

  • who says " you're in my way" at 5:26.

  • Wow, am impressed by the single-shot, Gimmeabreakman-san! I've done that walk, and it's nice to reminisce ...with bonus shots of upper floors!

(That's the longest continuous single shot I've seen since "Atonement", if you are familiar with that one. Yours was easier to watch...

  • About how high up is that? Also this is some nice footage, thanks :D

  • Thank you for the video.

  • i havnt left the tokyo/yokohama region much....not sure why that is....

  • ROOF TILE LOVER'S ALL OVER THE WORLD; UNITE

just kidding, the king would never leave a moron behind

  • zomg 6:35 shinsengumi haori!

  • so many crows in Japan

  • I think cam got high :D

  • It was great getting to see everything from such a different perspective. Thanks for showing us!

  • Wow! That's a cool idea and cool to watch Victor. It's nice to see something like this raw like this. Thanks man!

  • 清水寺!!! 懐かしいな!!!

  • I really enjoyed this. It was a nice perspective... It was almost as though being there. Great Job! ~Cherry

  • this is really cool!, nice to get a glimpse into regular surroundings

  • @drewnetwork

    I like this idea!

  • Awesome video! I love narrow streets. That camera was high up on a moving tripod? I usually prefer handheld myself but that was a beautiful method to get the full effect... I want to be a cinematographer.... sigh...

  • i heard 0 nails were used in the making of kiyomuzudera.

  • @Gilius6

Yes, I've heard that zero METAL nails were used. They were all made of wood.

  • great idea. and I love how the people are pointing at your camera ^__^

  • a nice walk.

To some people it may seem a bit boring, but it s way better than being humped by a dog as big as yourself

  • Haha I was thrown off at first, thinking there was no way you could be that tall... Anyway, I very much enjoyed - like you said, pure Japan :)

  • WOW, such a big difference from the normal view of a Zi8 !

It blurs out quite a bit of the edge huh ?

Also, victor, have you had any problems with your Zi8 generating a humming noise after 2-3 minutes ? mine does :<

I'll look into getting one of those lenses myself, the change is drastic !

also, did you just glue it on, or ??

  • @Ich1GoTgl

It comes with a magnetic washer with glue on one side. Just peel off the paper. But it comes off after a lot of use. I'll probably have to glue it on.

  • hehe, the little things matter.

    i love japanese roofs

  • Was trying to figure out why your camera was like that. I thought, "read the video description!" It's pretty cool how that much of a change can make things interesting.

  • I've been there just recently (3rd and 6th) and was trying to spot myself in the video^^ When was this taken? :))

  • @Chas0r

  • I know that westerners are generally taller but my GOD man!

    jokes, jokes.

  • Damn it Victor! You left Godzilla out of his cage again didnt you o_O!

  • Looks like you had a Gulliver Moment!

  • I wonder what the people in the second-floor apartments on that street were thinking when they looked out their windows and saw a camera float by on a pole. And is it just me, or is that the Happy Mask Salesman's shop at 6:52...? >_>;;;;

  • Comment removed

  • I've been here many times. Love this place.

  • So many people!!! But a very interesting city is Kyoto.

  • @fightprejudice Its the only place to be.

  • this is what japan would look like if japanese people were hobbits

  • Wow Victor,.. great video!

I love the Godzilla mask at 6:45.. that's awesome!

Thanks for taking us along. that was cool!

  • Cool~! this must have been during the weekend... I went mid week and it was super slow... this is kyoto right?

  • I know this isn't quite the topic at hand, but since @gimmeabreakman talked about the trip cost in the description, does anyone know what a round trip from tokyo to osaka and back is?

  • As long as I have been here, such street scenes continue to fascinate me. Good job!

  • I knew you were tall but didn't know how tall you were until I saw this video. ;)

Makes me want to go back to visit. Thanks!

  • Ma quanto è alto quello che ha ripreso?

  • Who shot the video - Gojira? Either that or somebody got some new toys! I really enjoyed this - the HD was fab! Nihon e ikitai desu yo!

  • @pruuvaneaa

Actually most of the handicrafts were probably not made in China, but anything that looks like a doll probably was. But yes.. ironic. Like US flags made in China. That kind of annoys me.

  • You should re-upload this with creepy Godzilla/Jaws music. That would awesome.

  • CERCL

  • haha....cool video :) i love that place, and know i know what it looks like from way up here.

  • Love the video.. I can't wait to visit Japan one day and move out there if is possible.. Love Japan...

  • I LOVE JAPAN !

    yes , caps.

  • if you go to kokura please film.

  • That's awesome! We were at Ise Jingu yesterday and I kept trying to hold my camera above my head to get a street shot like this, but of course it wasn't nearly high enough. I remember Ansel Adams saying he would set his tripod on top of his car to take pictures in Yosemite etc. The bit of extra height gave a unique perspective to his photos. Where are your family? Are they resting back at the hotel?

Oh, BTW, I got the lens! I guess I need to get a monopod next.

  • I bet you got stared a lot lol

  • can you teach us how to make giant corn?!

  • maybe his wife is on his shoulders or something

  • @arsnel366

For 7 minutes? Even I ain't that strong! LOL, Actually, I used a monopod.

  • @Gimmeabreakman i just assumed you were just really tall. And the reason people weren't running screaming "Godzilla!" is that he recently signed a peace treaty at the U.N.

  • @Gimmeabreakman lol i wonder what the people around you were thinking

  • @Gimmeabreakman Lol, I was wondering if you were walking down the street on a pair of stilts until I read this.

  • I have met 10 ft. tall aliens. They would muster a bit more of a reaction walking down the street than this.

  • looks beautiful, wish i was there

  • Thats the way I usually see the world too XD

  • Awesome video! Though a more (lit.) "down-to-earth" approach would've also been cool. Was fun trying to read the various signs on the shops. :D

  • You got a lot of funny looks and I heard a few people saying カメラ? But it payed off for this really nice video :)

I'm also glad there were no low electricity lines!

  • @jmilco

Yeah, I few people would squint their eyes trying to see what was a the top of the pole and then kind of chuckle and say NANDA! (Oh!) when they realized it was just a camera.

  • a average gaijin day in japan

  • Did you strap the tripod to your back or something, i'd imagine it gets pretty tiring holding a tripod up that high.

  • @LosBats

Surprisingly not so tiring. Camera is very small.

  • Loved the video! A little audio-visual slice of one facet of Japan. Can't wait to go there myself and feel the street under my feet and smell the food from the shops.. do India next! ;P

  • Nice.

  • was that obama next to buddha at 6:53? lmao

  • Ah... 3 more years until I go to Japan... Just 3 more... I can't wait... Japan just looks so beautiful.. I mean I know that the city and i'm not a very city person, but I'd love to be in a place like that. Though, this place looks like a Japanese version of the Big E in New England, United States

  • That mochi shop in the beginning of the video is sooo good.

    So many free samples!

  • Awesome vid, Sensei! I really had no idea how you did that until i read the description :s I actually thought you were on stilts for a good amount of the vid lol I'll make sure to read the description next time! thnx for the vid! ^^

  • They have wide angle lenses for the Zi8?

  • fun video :D

  • I bet you look silly carrying a camera on a monopod XD.

    CERCL

  • ninja angle !!

  • this is great! the video just further interested me in japan. it also felt like i was actually there peeking into the shops as i walked down the hill.. good stuff :)

  • really good video. I love these types of videos. feel like i'm on a walking tour of japan with you lol. thanks for the video.

  • awesome, love the architecture. cant wait to go to tokyo (hopefully at the end of april), definitely want to take a tour around as many cities as i can while i'm there

  • ah Kiyomizudera I've been there なんか なつかしな

  • this video makes me happy :) thank you :)

  • I really liked how this was shot. Thanks.

  • wow you're so much taller than everyone else.

  • Damn you Victor! Going through my town like that! 死ぬほど僕は懐かしくなったようにしたんやで!

  • Got mislead by the title. Thought you were actually gonna make the jump.

    今年もよろしくね

  • OMG you are that tall? haha

i see so many people. its better to visit kyoto in week day.

  • Cool shot. You should get a tilt-shift lens and make everything look miniature with whatever rig you have there. lol

  • one can get these cameras from the "BIg and Tall" section at Best Buy

  • hes not the big 1 they are just small

  • Impressive Building Culture. Man, i seriously want to visit Kyoto, but i cannot afford it right now ;D Also a lot of cute women around there, guess i should start saving some money ;)

  • Very cool

  • Man, Japanese people really are short!!! :P just like in Gulliver's Travels lol.

  • Man, Japanese people really are short!!! :P

  • Baka no sensei ,? that ha ha ahhaha ha ... but isn't it shot by a 10 foot pole!

  • I wonder how you got the video camera up so high! Did you mount it on a tripod or something and carry it above you? Nooooo it was balloons! A bunch of colorful helium balloons floating above your head! Or fairies...Yes definitely fairies.

  • Kyoumizu-dera ! you wash your hands with the water !! i actually drank that- clean water!

  • Wow there's a lot of cool stuff being displayed in those stores. It's like an outdoor mall but with a lot more character then big corporate american retailers.

  • ahh! baby godzilla is invading japan!

  • Are you filming with a pole or are you just happy to see me ;)

That was one interesting angle, i enjoyed this video a lot, thanks.

  • Cool view of Kyoto [^_^] I never thought to have the chance to see the architectual roof tops too. When I walked down (or up... whatever) those streets, I only could see faces all around me hahaha.... It's so crowded. Loved the vid. Thank you Victor.

BTW, the lense is pretty cool. Might get one too :)

  • Japan is shrinking no really it is.

  • I feel like GODZILLA!!

  • How much was the Godzilla head/mask, Victor?

  • @thedynamitekidd

About 3,600 yen ($US40.) Tofugu has one already. Wonder how much he paid...

  • @Gimmeaflakeman Thanks for that, I'd also like to get one at some stage, just for a laugh.

  • Cool idea, but doesn't it make people look at you as if you're weird?

  • I might do the same thing with my monopod, looks wicked ;]

  • This is cool! I was wondering how you were so high up with no reactions from the people on the ground. But you've got a long schlong to stick your camera on. Any chance of your checking out my videos mate? It'd be much appreciated ;)

  • Where did you find a wide angle lens for the Zi8? I got the same camera last summer and have been searching for one since I got it!

  • @nilanouvelle

    On Amazon.jp.

I'll put a link to it in the description.

  • Nice shops too.

  • Woah beautiful : 3

  • Giant Victor :D

  • I feel hight now, thank victor

  • Great video. I have walked down that street myself and visited Kiyomizudera. I love walking down streets like that and I love Kyoto.

  • Fantastic video!

  • This video makes me nostalgic! Kiyomizudera was one of my favourite places that I visited in Japan. I really like how you shot this video too. Very unusual view point. I must try that sometime. ;-D

  • ive walked down this street a few times before, its my favourite in Kyoto.

  • Nice perspective of Kyoto :) I saw Hello Kitty in the video hehehe.

  • That was actually very cool. Is it that crowded in a daily basis? I think I would be annoyed after a while x3 I wonder how much time I would spend checking ALL the little shops everywhere. xD

  • Just went there on Jan 1st. So many people that day. But everything was covered in snow because it snowed the day before...So beautiful! :) Might make some videos about that. :)

  • @ploysr08

    Would love to see it!

  • Hahaha this is how I feel when I'm next to short people because I'm 5'11. This is great!!

  • Ahhh, Wide-angle eh? That explains the fuzzy edges.. Glad you did shock yourself on a power line!!!

  • What can I say that hasn't been said already? Just that I LOVE KYOTO!!! And I must say that water was the best I have ever tasted. For realz. Any one get a shot of you and your HUGE pod? LOL!!!

  • ehm...how high are you?

  • @MrLilort

Dude, I am soooo high right now....

  • and also it seems none sees u...lol an invisible alien 5 meter tall took this video

  • I love raw vids. You present Kiyomizudera wonderfully and in very zen fashion. Kudos, Victor~!

  • ahhhh i miss japan. btw, you have gotten so much taller lately...hehe (-;

  • what is ur height victor XD and why i must click to see the comments? -.-

  • @mataronasd

Why must you click to see the comments? No idea. New YT glitch. I'm just under 6 feet. Read description for more info on how I shot this.

  • @Gimmeabreakman So you basically carried around a camera on a stick? Man I bet people were staring like crazy! haha

  • @Degenskonto This is Japan man, they make weirder shit themselves on a daily basis.

  • @Gimmeabreakman pffft no secret that you can fly victor!

  • @mataronasd Those are probably new comments as they appear. although i often get the no video glitch, and to fix that all i do is scroll down a bit and it appears.

  • @vanekPI Nope, even if you comment it won't show up, only if you like, close the tab and go back to it a few mins later. Quite silly tbh. :o

  • Sweeeeeet! monopod? thanks for making me miss Japan even more:(...

  • Victor you look 10ft tall.

  • Godzilla eye's view?

  • @utuskuru

    funny.

  • wtf? are you a giant or something? :D

  • I had read the title before you changed it to the full thing, and it just said "Goodbye". I died inside because I thought you were leaving YouTube. Then I clicked it and became happy again. :D

  • Very small streets in japan o_o

  • awesome vid =D

  • =)
