Hahaha, I went crazy when I went to Kiyomizudera more than a year ago. I loved everything there. People always talk about Tokyo, but really Kyoto is where it's at. 8)
Awesome! I actually tried doing this in The Netherlands as well last Summer but it's just no good: instead of just going about their business people will all stare up and make remarks. *sigh* ;)
Awesome video! I love narrow streets. That camera was high up on a moving tripod? I usually prefer handheld myself but that was a beautiful method to get the full effect... I want to be a cinematographer.... sigh...
It comes with a magnetic washer with glue on one side. Just peel off the paper. But it comes off after a lot of use. I'll probably have to glue it on.
Was trying to figure out why your camera was like that. I thought, "read the video description!" It's pretty cool how that much of a change can make things interesting.
I wonder what the people in the second-floor apartments on that street were thinking when they looked out their windows and saw a camera float by on a pole. And is it just me, or is that the Happy Mask Salesman's shop at 6:52...? >_>;;;;
I know this isn't quite the topic at hand, but since @gimmeabreakman talked about the trip cost in the description, does anyone know what a round trip from tokyo to osaka and back is?
Actually most of the handicrafts were probably not made in China, but anything that looks like a doll probably was. But yes.. ironic. Like US flags made in China. That kind of annoys me.
That's awesome! We were at Ise Jingu yesterday and I kept trying to hold my camera above my head to get a street shot like this, but of course it wasn't nearly high enough. I remember Ansel Adams saying he would set his tripod on top of his car to take pictures in Yosemite etc. The bit of extra height gave a unique perspective to his photos. Where are your family? Are they resting back at the hotel?
Oh, BTW, I got the lens! I guess I need to get a monopod next.
@Gimmeabreakman i just assumed you were just really tall. And the reason people weren't running screaming "Godzilla!" is that he recently signed a peace treaty at the U.N.
Yeah, I few people would squint their eyes trying to see what was a the top of the pole and then kind of chuckle and say NANDA! (Oh!) when they realized it was just a camera.
Loved the video! A little audio-visual slice of one facet of Japan. Can't wait to go there myself and feel the street under my feet and smell the food from the shops.. do India next! ;P
Ah... 3 more years until I go to Japan... Just 3 more... I can't wait... Japan just looks so beautiful.. I mean I know that the city and i'm not a very city person, but I'd love to be in a place like that. Though, this place looks like a Japanese version of the Big E in New England, United States
Awesome vid, Sensei! I really had no idea how you did that until i read the description :s I actually thought you were on stilts for a good amount of the vid lol I'll make sure to read the description next time! thnx for the vid! ^^

Impressive Building Culture. Man, i seriously want to visit Kyoto, but i cannot afford it right now ;D Also a lot of cute women around there, guess i should start saving some money ;)
I wonder how you got the video camera up so high! Did you mount it on a tripod or something and carry it above you? Nooooo it was balloons! A bunch of colorful helium balloons floating above your head! Or fairies...Yes definitely fairies.
Wow there's a lot of cool stuff being displayed in those stores. It's like an outdoor mall but with a lot more character then big corporate american retailers.
Cool view of Kyoto [^_^] I never thought to have the chance to see the architectual roof tops too. When I walked down (or up... whatever) those streets, I only could see faces all around me hahaha.... It's so crowded. Loved the vid. Thank you Victor.
BTW, the lense is pretty cool. Might get one too :)
This is cool! I was wondering how you were so high up with no reactions from the people on the ground. But you've got a long schlong to stick your camera on. Any chance of your checking out my videos mate? It'd be much appreciated ;)
This video makes me nostalgic! Kiyomizudera was one of my favourite places that I visited in Japan. I really like how you shot this video too. Very unusual view point. I must try that sometime. ;-D
That was actually very cool. Is it that crowded in a daily basis? I think I would be annoyed after a while x3 I wonder how much time I would spend checking ALL the little shops everywhere. xD
Just went there on Jan 1st. So many people that day. But everything was covered in snow because it snowed the day before...So beautiful! :) Might make some videos about that. :)
