I used to go to the red lion in sutton on a regular basis in the mid 60's to watch the presidents. They also supported the rolling stones at epsom baths in 65. Does anyone remember a young jeff beck in the night shift?
The story has to be told - call it sour grapes - but here it is. Glyn Johns who worked closely with The Presidents from 1958 produced this, his first single, and passed it to Decca who signed the band immediately and prepared for its release. But then it got passed to the Tremeloes who cut it and released it forcing The Presidents to relegate their version to the B side of their single. The Tremeloes got to number 8 in the UK charts. Who knows what might have been in store for The Presidents?

Kudos to The Presidents. This has to be the best rendition ever of this classic number.
