Taken too soon. A true legend. You listen to some of the garbage that is popular today and it is like some mental disease has overtaken people. I like edgy music but nothing can detract from the beautfiul simplicity of this.
I found Del's version of Black is Black and just kept on scrolling through his hits so thank you for that. I played his hits on my car stereo for a loooooong time and sang along too. I thought I'd just share this Hey Hey clip which sadly wasn't long before he left us!
I watched Del play in a bar in Newmarket, Ontario two weeks before his suicide. Knowing the owner of the bar, we had a table directly on the floor in front of Del. Growing up with his music in the 60's, his performance that night was fantastic!
1990.....he Ran away.....miss you Del, a true Legend...Thanks for the happiness you gave us all with ur music...I wawawawonder....why....whywhywhywhywhy u went away...??? xo
i see myself in the audience i was rapt as i saw del shannon and leslie nielson in the one show and there both gone now rest in peace del and leslie it was a great era back then there will be great memories of that show its sad to see channel nine moving to a new place as the old building had a great feel about it good memories from sue anderson melton victoria
he played my dads 40th birthday party, and i remember takin him to the airport-he was the nicest guy in the world-feel sad all the time when i c him on you tube
His voice sounds great but his eyes look dark, unhealthy. I loved him and still watch all his peformances on Youtube. I was just a kid when he was popular in the 60's but in the 80's he was great. He was starting to get some new gigs. It's so sad that his talent was not recognized more during his lifetime. I do thinj the pressure of one minute you are on top and the next minute you are just playing Rock and Roll Revivials
In Australia we would call it a jumper or a pullover. These guys were huge in the eighties. This was the Australian version of SNL without the lovely Tina Fey.
The audience sucks...I would have been dancing to that song right in front of Del Shannon man...such a great performance cant be just wasted by sitting down and clapping.
You´re so right, but you must get his last album ever called "Rock On" and get the one with 15 titles, there´s one with only 10 titles, even more prove´s how Great he was in the end, he had so much more to give and it´s tragic we have to be without him, he is my love no 1 and has been since 1961, I´ll always love him, caro
Yes it's a coincidence. Del was going to beinvited to join the Wilburys but he died before he could play with them. A genuine shame as he would have been a ntaural fir with George and Jeff and Bob.
In the 50's and 60's, record producers would have other singers perform songs that that best fits the singers style. Del would refuse to let anybody record and produce any of his songs. He would do it himself. Del is a true Rock and Roll pioneer. Runaway is my all time favorite song. Its the first song I learn on my guitar.
I love to see you sing what ever song it is but this is so exquisite and you are having such a good time, it shows on your face how much you enjoyed it, and the audience is great too, my love is yours forever Del,caro
The best live version of Runaway I have ever seen - hands down!! The band are into it, his voice is blasting, the crowd love him and Del Shannon is rockin!!!! This is awesome!!!!

Do you catch the part in the video about Roy Orbison's passing away and that 'Del might JOIN him"? What's THAT all about?
Is it coincidence that they both died not far apart?

He DID, of course give "I Go to Pieces" to Peter and Gordon, and recorded "From Me to You" over the Beatles' objections.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
when somone writes a song they gain the exclusive right to record it first or designate who will record it first under fereral statute
