my old coach does this too he was a good coach cause he made us rep this til we get it perfect and so far our o-line was perfect til he got fired for something he didn't do
the bad thing about this video is in the ball punches drill the guy punching the ball is standing straight up..i mean im a tailback but i know that the o line has to know the blocking schemes and has to stay low
ok, I'm going into 9th grade. I'm not that great at handling the ball. Everyone keeps telling me go for offensive line. Being first time I've actually played, is there many actual "plays" for the linemen to follow. Or is it pretty much bash the other teams guy. Also, does anyone have tips to help get me ready over the summer?
There are plenty of plays for O-linemen you have Big on big run blocking, pass blocking, pulls etc.
yeah you are pretty much knocking the guy in front of you on his ass for 30 minutes straight.Which is why the o-line are the most aggressive people on the field
The best tip I can give you is to find a tree and mark a spot on that tree about the height of your mid thigh and practice coming out of your stance below that mark.
height is EVERYTHING and the lower you are the better.
listen Im a starting left tackle for a highschool team and its a bitter sweet job. Listen if your fast play something else. But if your big and slow play line its not all to bad. And yes there are a crapload of plays.
There are always a certain person, or area, a linemen will have to block. I say you need to find your Head Coach, find out when weight training is, and hit the weights from now until August.
If you trying to work out on your own im a offensive lineman and I play semi pro the best thing to do is to find a friend to work out with or go to a gym and just start benching man you getta get strong if you are a shorter guy work on your squats also it all about good foot work and strength but you need to talk to your coach on getting a playbook also and see what your position all about but football is all about off season working out.
Well since you seem pretty good with this stuff, Ill ask you:p
Im 15, 6'5 270, currently playing Right guard, my legs are my weapons, but I've snapped both my wrists so there real weak when it comes to benching, any tips on how to re-build so that I can actually bench what I am made to bench?
hey maybe this will help you out. do wrist curls just to get them use to working again, then do everything wit dumbells. and I mean everything, bench, incline, decline if you do that, curls, one armed cleans, one armed snacth also. that will force you to strenghten your wrists. and once you get comfortable go back to the bar.
well ya the O-Line has to follow the play all the time cause the O Line makes the plays work. They protect the QB and make the hole for the running back to go through. Weightlifting will help you a lot like do Squat and Incline Bench Press and Deadlift and Clean those are some that will help make sure you got quick feet
i have got your age and i switched to right tackle to center, just learn how to get in position very very quiqly and learn how to make a shotgun, i prefeer one hand shotgun, because it lets your left hand to give the first punch or push down the defensive tackle
Great idea! I use a ten pound bench press weight on my 8th grade linemen and use it to strengthen thier first strike movements. Trains for endurance also.
@TeamTacoTV no I found out recently it was had a fight with the head coach and he got a paying opportunity, so he dint care much

very true.
I don't know why you got negative feedback for your comment.
he also needs to get his butt down, get his elbows in, thumbs up, not lunge, and keep a strong core. (his feet look o.k.)
this is a good drill.
but the dude doing it isn't get much out of the drill if his technique is whack.
