When I told it to my friend (who is a musician), and asked him is it too late for starting practice at my age, he told me that I'm too old to became a professional drummer. But why? Now he's one of the most popular drummers in metal. He inspires Mike Portnoy and Joey Jordison. Not saying he's better (nor worse) but to inspire such names - that's an anchievement. Screw what your mate says and go practice on the kit, bro. My father in law started playing guitar 1 year ago. He's 61 now. He's not that good

Speed, technique, fast foot...yes those things I love too guys. But what about the form of his solo? The rhythmic themes he is using?! Notice the rhythm he plays on the snare at 103, is the same as he plays on the toms at 117. Look at how the solo begins and how it ends. Look at his phrasing. I think it is an awesome solo because it's not just a bunch of rambling of techniques. His has clarity and form. It tells a story, like any solo should.
