There should be a movie or documentary on Jim Ryun, I know and hear about his successes in running yet don't really know much about him. I think a lot of runners would like to hear his life story!
@benfox559 There was a one hour documentary on Jim Ryun made about 10-12 years ago called "Jim Ryun, Americas Greatest Miler". Probably pretty hard if not impossible to find nowadays but there was some pretty good footage of his races dating back to his junior year of high school.
You could try emailing the man who made the documentary.

@benfox559 He basically started running because he couldn't make any sports teams. Track was his last option. Didn't start out well. Ran a 5:38 mile the winter of his sophomore year, worked hard, and ran 4:07.8 six months later, and broke 4 minutes after 18 months of running. Track was the sport for him and the rest is history.
Ryun is the greatest middle distance talent the U.S. has ever produced. Sub 4 mile 18 months after he first started running. Running 3:55.3 as a high school senior defeating Snell, Grelle and Odlozil and setting an American Record in the process and only 1.7 seconds off the wr.
Running a 1:44.3 800 with 53-51.3 splits and a 3:51.3 wr holder as a 19 year old. A 3:51.1 mile leading every step of the way and then a 3:33.1 with a 2:46-2:47 last 1200. Shame the 68 Olympics had to be at 7500 feet.
