Actualy belly dancers are suposed to have a bit of fat on their belly, it gives them something to shake, their torsos are nontheless very strong. Its also very good exercise for your spine.

@Msmira3 You can learn a lot just watching videos. Some Egyptian dancers are boring and some are excellent. It all depends who will appeal to you. Turkish and Lebanese dancers are closer to American Style. All Egyptians dance different. Some love Najwa Fouad and some say she's just dancing ballet style. To get everyone to agree on who is the best bellydancer is like asking an American who is the best singer in USA. To each his own ~ :)

@innocent4evar They're both from Denver and took lessons from Denver area teachers. They practice and perform a lot so dance skills grow fast if you're committed. Kaya had 2 kids when this show was filmed and Sadie just had her first baby last summer and is back on the road already.

@alanagirlstown No, because the best belly dancers are never stick thin or very thin because then you can't see the real movement of the hips and the way you see the actual belly dance which is the stomach move is with a little or a little more fat and curve in the woman so it looks, in a way, like a snake or smoke. There are skinnier belly dancers of course, and they dance well but, it's easier on the eye, if you will, when there is some form to the woman. :) hope I helped. :D

Some people like my Persian husband think Dina (famous Egyptian dancer) dresses like a prostitute when she dances. I had to point out her wonderful grace and arm and hand movements. He Finally saw it - but couldn't get past her attire - a very short skirt that barely covered her butt. Classy Arab dancer? Not to everyone.

Saying all Arab women can belly dance is like saying all American women can sing rock music or play the banjo. Not everyone has rhythm and even fewer can stand on a stage or go on TV and dance perfectly with a partner. THeir dancing is at a level that makes it look easy and that is a talent all by itself.

Egyptians vary but some don't break a sweat and overall Arab belly dancers (Egyptians, Jordanians, Iraqis) have bigger bodies and Turks and Lebanese have slimmer bodies.
