all that bitching about compound and recurve bows is completely pointless. the point of shooting bows it to get as accurate and good at it as possible. choose whatever u like and be happy with it. compounds r a natural evolution of the bow. what's bad about that?
@pacovl46 I agree with you, but sadly compound bows aren't allowing in the Olympics, so people planning to train and go there shouldn't really train with a compound.
@GeraldBLazy i agree. i also want to say that recurve bows are more difficult to master and therefore require higher skills and that makes it more of an "art". that's probably also the reason why compounds aren't allowed at the olympics.
The glasfiber laminated guys, they have 60 years of tradition and they do as they are actual bows, my bows got......we have 10.000 years of tradition. Ed Scot
regardless thought, i see peoples point on compound offers more consistency, I feel the true archers are those who are deadly accurate with a long bow or a recurve. I've seen GREAT archers that shoot longbow and just tear up people using compounds.
my oppinion is this is retarded they are yousing so much gear on the bow to aim and the bows is so easy to pull they could just as well shoot with a crossbow and they arent even holding theire fingers on the string they got a tool for that to fuck this is just stupid in a 14centuary war these archers would be dead and dont comment this is not a war i now that i just saying this is fuckin pussy arching
@OneHardcoreGamer You miss the point of competition entirely and should stop typing immediately to avoid embarrassment, go back to playing your video games kid.
The whole point of stabilizers, release aids and rests is to ensure consistency between shots, so it's not down to luck whether you get a good shot or not. Shooting a standard wood-bow isn't consistent, we rely on an anchor point that can shift around for each shot, which changes the accuracy by a lot down range.
my oppinion is this is retarded they are yousing so much gear on the bow to aim and the bows is so easy to pull they could just as well shoot with a crossbow
when some guy shows up with a bwx he just made from wood he found in the forest and shoots like this, then ill be impressed, and what r these little dinky arrows they use? id almost be willing to take one of those in a butt cheek
@OneHardcoreGamer So you started when you were 4? Your profile says you are 14. There is no way you can get a 6 inch grouping at 70 yards with a wooden longbow shooting instinctive. If people could, then we wouldn't have competition archery like this. This is why precision archery has evolved to how it is today. Also, it's not about hitting the target as a whole, it's about the 9's and 10's - it will rarely drop below that, and if it does it is considered a bad shot.
@eldudio yes i started wen i was 4 but i didnt youse a 50lbs none at 4 could do that i yoused somthing like a 5-10 lbs i dont now it is 10 years agoe i started with 50 lbs wen i was 13 and but i am allso yousing a good 30lbs shortbow and yes i can hit target at 90feet it is somthing called pull the bow, aim fast and shoot before you geth tired then you will be able to shoot wery acurat so pleas stopp thinking i cant becouse you have not seen me shoot so shut up becouse i now i can do that.
@OneHardcoreGamer 70 yards is not 90ft.. This is Olympic Archery, shooting 70 yards which is 210ft. If you are comparing shooting indoor at 90ft to this then you should really stop arguing right now, as it's like comparing apples and oranges.
Most people can get a good grouping at an indoor range. These guys shoot 210ft and get their arrows in roughly a 6 inch grouping - that is very impressive.
Again, 210ft, not 90ft. They wouldn't have an Olympic competition if everybody could do it.
@DuncanJBF It's sport, it's about trimming the fat in every way possible. Formula 1 teams spend millions just to shave a .5 second off a lap time. In football players fake injuries to attempt to get an advantage.. the list goes on. When you do a competition it's all about getting that advantage, yes, piddly arrows, but they are built for a purpose. It's like going up to a F1 driver and mocking him for not having a Stereo, he'd probably tell you "extra weight".
@eldudio yes i started wen i was 4 but i didnt youse a 50lbs none at 4 could do that i yoused somthing like a 5-10 lbs i dont now it is 10 years agoe i started with 50 lbs wen i was 13 but i am allso yousing 30lbs shortbow and yes i can hit target at 90feet it is somthing called pull the bow, aim fast and shoot before you geth tired then you will be able to shoot wery acurat so pleas stopp thinking i cant becouse you have not seen me shoot so shut up becouse i now i can do that and have done it
I'll be impressed when they 'split the wand' from the same distance with a 100lb longbow. No sights or stabilizers or fancy arrows. A good archer can do that with a simple longbow and some arrows he made the night before.
These archers rely on technology, the archers that I know can split a wand very easily with just a longbow and arrows they made themselves. Now those are proper archers
Now take all these archers, pile on a few layers of camo (cause its -10 degrees) and then have them put on a backpack that weighs 40lbs, and send them to the mountains after elk. After walking around in the cold and the snow or the rain for 3 or 4 days see if they can make a kill shot at 60-80 yrds. Hunters do it all the time. Thats real archery. Sore, tired, cold, wet, hungry, scratched up. No excuses. You get one shot to get that "10".
Why are they using all this fancy stuff. . .I'd kinda like to see them shoot without and then it would be more awe-inspiring that they got like 3 bullseyes in a row! I wish I was that good at archery!
@skoobasteeve haha probly that dont want to kill anyone for one thing, and on a unicycle? im not sure thats even physicly possible but i might be wrong
@danpt2000 it's called a long rod and is fitted both to stabilise the bow when shooting and absorb some of the vibrations on release. Hope that helps!
@swat305GINO If you have ever shou a compound bow, you would know that you should not "grip" with you hand, but almost rest the grip in your hand and after the shot, the tension between your hand and the grip is lost and therefor e the bow falls foward.
im suprised that the arrows often do not hit perpendicular to the target. Id almost think that such shots shouldnt count, because there would be much less power behind the hit.
@mrkiky Hmmm, there were different hand domineces, but if they were right handed the thing on here hand is as quick release with a hair triger, if it was on there wrist, its just a wrist guard so that the string dont bite them, the thing on there chest is for comfort when pulling, its for better stability. most recurve shooters use those,.
@mrkiky oh i see what your talking about, haha im sorry i didnt know that when you said it, its called a Tab, its for your fingers when you draw back, it dont hurt your fingers, i use one my self, ist just a peice of leather that loops around your middle finger and covers you middle 3 fingers from the inside
@manufacturedfracture With the aim they can but hunting is a mind set and some people just don't have that mind set to shot an animal. But with that aim they are very capable.
Not really, but someone who attempts to speak a language should at least spell it correctly.
Not that i was implying you did or did not speak english. Make all the grammatical errors you want, but mispelling a simple word can not be put down to a lack of knowledge in a language. A simple typographical error? fine. But U, They, and You naive... way to rape a language.
Even if he's from a country where they speak english, your reply to him still isn't correct. He makes a remark about the accuracy or whatever of these archers and your comeback involves his spelling? That wouldn't last long in a debate you know. You are convinced that every citizen should speak his or her land's language, and so am I. In the case that he isn't from an english speaking country, I think that all he can do is his best, and that that is enough.
no, its the implication of "you think they cant kill deer with that aim, you are naive"
its not a comment on the accuracy of the archers, infact i dont see how it is in any way relevant. i dont even see where the assumption of a lack of ability to hit a deer with a bow came from. if he is referencing the law on hunting with a bow in the uk that is due to the inhumane-ness of bow hunting. the comment isnt even a reply, so who is he accusing of being naive?
@Confusedfurry I don't know the history of your dispute. If he isn't accusing you, then he must be talking to someone else. :) I understand your frustration though.
in my opinion, compounds take away from the challenge. I shot compounds for the first 5 years I shot, and got pretty good. Then i switched over to recurves, and its much more of a challenge. If i wanted to shoot perfect groups id just go buy a .22 rifle
@droot14 in my opinion, the bow takes away from the challenge. I used to shoot bows... then i went to tomahawks and got pretty good... it's much more of a challenge, if i wanted to shoot perfect groups, i'd just go buy some ballistic knives....
these guys can probably dominate with a recurve too.
@droot14 How can you fairly say that? Maybe compounds are a little less of a challenge but they are still a challenge nonetheless. I would much prefer that someone shot a compound rather than a rifle. Why? Because its more of a challenge. You shouldnt demean groups of archers because you think they are taking the easy way with a compound.
settle down there dude. i said that is takes away from the challenge of shooting bows. Obviously a recurve is a bit more of a challenge than a compound. I too would much rather have people shoot with compounds over rifles. I wasn't "demeaning" anyone with my statement, I plainly said that in 99% of cases, shooting a recurve is more of a challenge.
to be able to pull the string of a classic bow you need to be able to lift a third of your body weigth with 1 hand....on these composites, you barely feel anything
this is awfull shit...those are too techy....it's not even archery...when you have all those aiming devices....where is the difference between the master and the apprentice
in the technique bro obviously .they look flashy but same princeples apply allthough some would say fita is girly gettin perfect 10s at 75 metres takes a lott u need real good form everything from head to toe has to be right inside and out. i know what youre sayin tho i also enjoy traditional archery i shoot a compound and a traditional english longbow theres something very special about shooting a bare bow makes me smile inside
well in golf you only have to put a ball in a hole,in archery you just have to put a stick in a target ... but in golf you only have a hand full of tools which makes it simple ... in archery you have lots more ... think about the right sight ,arrow weight, wind direction and speed, what tip your using id the arrow spins right , your veins lenght, how many feet p/s you get out of your bow, whats your accurate range ect ....
This video is awesome. I trained for 8 years just for this type of competiition but was forced to retire just prior to the '72 tryouts due to a totally destroyed Left rotator cuff witch left me unable to even draw a bow. I was using a Hoyt Pro Medalist II, Left hand, Ser. #2107 which was stolen from me in 1975, along with Easton X7 1914 (Expermental) Gold anodized received directly from the factory while I worked there in 1967. This equipment was later sold from a pawn shop in Dayton, Oh!!!!
theyre called cables and its one really long string strung through 2 cams and then there is the cable which keep the two limbs from seperating more than theyre meant to making the bow more accurate
Notice how the bow falls forward after release. They are not actually "holding" the bow, it is being pressed into the v-shaped palm by the tension on the bow string, that prevents a "grip" by the hand from twisting the bow on release. Anyone can improve their accuracy by using a secure strap to keep the bow from falling after release.
I agree. I shooted once and I really loved. I think all depends of how responsable you are; if you have bad intentions, everything can be turned into a gun.
Rcurve bows are just layered wood or composite with the classic 'bullhorn' shape, the ones used in the olympics. Compound bows have a series of cables and cam wheels drawing fibreglass limbs, lots more power.
..and then there's the comment about the old asian guy making bows...seriously..where are most americans living today? mars?!?! stop watching tv and travel the world a bit more, you may learn something useful for once you 'good old boys'..
I think VBH888 has been mixing too much crack and weed together while watching youtube..how stupid has the world become despite the technology we have..pathetic!!
VBH888... You are a moron... Bows in war? Thats over buddy, now we shoot at targets and at animals; you see, a long time ago, a smart man invented what we call "the GUN" that is what we now use in war. As for Mongolian Bows, they were good for shooting from horseback but the British Longbow had the longest range and was most deadly. As for accuracy, saying the ppl back then had better aim is like saying musketeers could shoot better that snipers.
Im gonna start Archery as a hobby and im not gonna get a hightech crap im get and old style 1 made by some old asian guy and if i win it would just show how much better i am without any scopes.
to Alansblogs, if you find it unapealling because it looks easy, than try. I bet that after a month of solid pratice[10 groups of 10 arrows/day] that you might be able to hit the target at 70 yards. If you could hit one 10x in 50 shots I'll eat my bowhunting hat. Send evidence of your sucessfull shot and I'll send evidence of my feast!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Theyve taken the 'archery'out of archery. The bows have no resistance because the wheels take ALL the strain, and the mounted sight and counter weight makes it easy to aim, and it keeps the arrow travelling straight as it leaves the bow. And whats with the 'string-sneck thing' that they hold in their hand? Might as well use a sniper rifle...
Gee go think - the world moves on - using the the rifle analogy then guns need to stay as they where using black powder like hundreds of years ago - there is room for all types of archery from the primitive to the modern. Oh and even with "cams" etc it is still a physical challenge.
No no, thank you for yours. Im not saying that they shouldnt exist, Rifles progressed because they are STILL a weapon of war. But Bows are not, they are primarily used as a skillful hobby. Im just saying that these shots would be more impressive if they used a normal bow. You knew exactly what i meant with my comment, you just couldnt wait to argue your 'Empty, irrelivant and pointless point'. Once again, thanks for your ignorance
lets see u with a bow and the wheels take most of the strain not all of it, your basicly saying. why have different guns why not 1 major gun. people you'se bows becasue its a different way jsut like anyother gun exept its not load as fuck and it doesent leave anything in the animal u kill
I dont understand why everyone is getting so upset from my comments, am i not allowed an opinion? People, you gotta relax...its not like i go round punching people in the face for using a composite/Olympic style bows. Im sure its still hard to hit the target, but its harder with a traditional bow.
i agree with you old bows are better specialy them old Mongolian bows.Yes targets may be futher away and smaller but does old warriors shot better than these people with out any help. Do you know the story about the japanese bow man that sunk a ship?

@droot14 i dont consider compound bows as real bows now if u can take down a elk with a homemade wooden bow that is what i call a good archer
258legolas 1 year ago
@droot14 cool story bro
Drivinfast247 1 year ago
@droot14 in my opinion, the bow takes away from the challenge. I used to shoot bows... then i went to tomahawks and got pretty good... it's much more of a challenge, if i wanted to shoot perfect groups, i'd just go buy some ballistic knives....
these guys can probably dominate with a recurve too.
bigshowble 1 year ago
@bigshowble Thank you. Well said.
belowthesmile 1 year ago
@droot14 How can you fairly say that? Maybe compounds are a little less of a challenge but they are still a challenge nonetheless. I would much prefer that someone shot a compound rather than a rifle. Why? Because its more of a challenge. You shouldnt demean groups of archers because you think they are taking the easy way with a compound.
belowthesmile 1 year ago
@belowthesmile
settle down there dude. i said that is takes away from the challenge of shooting bows. Obviously a recurve is a bit more of a challenge than a compound. I too would much rather have people shoot with compounds over rifles. I wasn't "demeaning" anyone with my statement, I plainly said that in 99% of cases, shooting a recurve is more of a challenge.
droot14 1 year ago
@droot14 I see. Recurves are more of a challenge. I agree.

to be able to pull the string of a classic bow you need to be able to lift a third of your body weigth with 1 hand....on these composites, you barely feel anything

bull shit get a 70 pound pull with a peek weight of 125

in the technique bro obviously .they look flashy but same princeples apply allthough some would say fita is girly gettin perfect 10s at 75 metres takes a lott u need real good form everything from head to toe has to be right inside and out. i know what youre sayin tho i also enjoy traditional archery i shoot a compound and a traditional english longbow theres something very special about shooting a bare bow makes me smile inside

if it were so easy they would be putting the arrows in the ten ring all the time.

well in golf you only have to put a ball in a hole,in archery you just have to put a stick in a target ... but in golf you only have a hand full of tools which makes it simple ... in archery you have lots more ... think about the right sight ,arrow weight, wind direction and speed, what tip your using id the arrow spins right , your veins lenght, how many feet p/s you get out of your bow, whats your accurate range ect ....

In golf wind also affects accuracies so those your position, golf stick, force, its actually pretty similar
LuisRC91 2 years ago
golf has one difference, you impact the ball to direct its shot, the bow simply releases it, allowing for a more accurate trajectory

Why do they have 3 strings on their bow,are they spares
r3nShakey 3 years ago
I don't know the full science behind it, but it's actually one long string that is strung through pully systems on both ends of the bow.
BytownBassist 3 years ago
theyre called cables and its one really long string strung through 2 cams and then there is the cable which keep the two limbs from seperating more than theyre meant to making the bow more accurate
thepopelover 3 years ago
Notice how the bow falls forward after release. They are not actually "holding" the bow, it is being pressed into the v-shaped palm by the tension on the bow string, that prevents a "grip" by the hand from twisting the bow on release. Anyone can improve their accuracy by using a secure strap to keep the bow from falling after release.

You may say that we have guns, but have you ever shooted a bow? Its a great pleassure to do it,you know.
mnogomidreme 3 years ago 3
I agree. I shooted once and I really loved. I think all depends of how responsable you are; if you have bad intentions, everything can be turned into a gun.
Necromanceress 3 years ago
"shooted" you mean "shot"?

Ja and seems I "meant" it very right, once you understood ^^ Don´t blame me, I´m a beginner ;)

what's the difference between recurve and compound?
keunwp 3 years ago
Rcurve bows are just layered wood or composite with the classic 'bullhorn' shape, the ones used in the olympics. Compound bows have a series of cables and cam wheels drawing fibreglass limbs, lots more power.
zvader1609 3 years ago
..and then there's the comment about the old asian guy making bows...seriously..where are most americans living today? mars?!?! stop watching tv and travel the world a bit more, you may learn something useful for once you 'good old boys'..

Esuavio 3 years ago
mongolian bows???? youre just a cunt.
owenhicks71 3 years ago
shooting with a compound or a regular bow has 2 percentage parts 40% is the archers strength and holding it still and 60% is the tightness of the bow
jcodym13 3 years ago
You dont use scopes... usually you use a pin

Send evidence of your sucessfull shot and I'll send evidence of my feast!!
nock99 3 years ago 4
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Theyve taken the 'archery'out of archery.
Alansblogs 3 years ago
Gee go think - the world moves on - using the the rifle analogy then guns need to stay as they where using black powder like hundreds of years ago - there is room for all types of archery from the primitive to the modern. Oh and even with "cams" etc it is still a physical challenge.
Thank you for your ignorance.
KBAsmile 3 years ago
No no, thank you for yours. Im not saying that they shouldnt exist, Rifles progressed because they are STILL a weapon of war. But Bows are not, they are primarily used as a skillful hobby. Im just saying that these shots would be more impressive if they used a normal bow. You knew exactly what i meant with my comment, you just couldnt wait to argue your 'Empty, irrelivant and pointless point'. Once again, thanks for your ignorance
Alansblogs 3 years ago
lol since obviously you assume it is easy I concede to your superiority:)
KBAsmile 3 years ago
lets see u with a bow and the wheels take most of the strain not all of it, your basicly saying. why have different guns why not 1 major gun. people you'se bows becasue its a different way jsut like anyother gun exept its not load as fuck and it doesent leave anything in the animal u kill
orangejump11 3 years ago
lol..."wheels".....lol

the distance is longer, and target is smaller........and it is just as hard as recurve....u even do archery?
dungman101 3 years ago
yes i do archery, but its traditional archery.
I dont understand why everyone is getting so upset from my comments, am i not allowed an opinion? People, you gotta relax...its not like i go round punching people in the face for using a composite/Olympic style bows. Im sure its still hard to hit the target, but its harder with a traditional bow.
Alansblogs 3 years ago
i agree with you old bows are better specialy them old Mongolian bows.Yes targets may be futher away and smaller but does old warriors shot better than these people with out any help. Do you know the story about the japanese bow man that sunk a ship?
