Maybe you missed the 5 times I labeled this video as a commute. Or maybe you're a poser that thinks track bikes were made for doing lame tricks. Pick any two.
I finally got a track bike! A Fuji. Though didn't come in the colour I wanted but okay. I'll install a brake sooner or later (sooner). But until then I'll just slow the fuck down. & practice.
i work on Bush and Sutter and i see you crazy fukers scream down bush. When i see it i feel my hands twitch as i want to try it on my fixie... but yes, i must use breaks as i saw a guy get clipped INTO the Chinatown Lion. ouch. Keep strong and "no rules no breaks"
why all the fighting? don't we all ride bikes cause we love it, whether you are a messenger or a commuter we're all out there on bikes. good video dude.
i honestly do not understand how you go through this every day man. what's the gear ratio on the rig? i run 50/16 which gives me 3.125 ratio and i wouldn't dare to ride on a hill like that, not even with front brake installed.
I suggest anyone riding a fixed without at least a front brake riding a fix... to put one on. I'm a messenger in NYC, and I was talking to a guy who rides a fix and he told me he was coming down the Brooklyn Bridge, on the Manhattan side and went to skid and boom... chain broke, no brakes. Had to stick his foot in the back wheel, fucking it up.. and he still ran into the benches at the bottom. Fucking up his front wheel.
That's not only a good advice because a front brake is a backup, but also because sometimes you need to stop NOW. Don't like it? Don't use it. But it's there when you need it.
you have got to be kidding u must be the slowest messenger i have EVER seen ride in SF want to learn come to THE BIG APPLE slow here is only an option
Both of you stop arguing whose dick is bigger and recognize that SF riders make NYC look like a bunch of school girls. SF is where its at, its where it started, and nyc has no hills. bow down.
This guy rides like a nanny.

Is 42:18 a good ratio? That's what I have.
majornewb 4 years ago
Good for going up hills and stopping. Bad for going fast ;)
cryoabyss 4 years ago
Whats a good ratio for going fast uphills and in general?
majornewb 4 years ago
I'm pretty satisfied with 48/16.

i never understood commuting w/ track bikes, how do u break going down hill?
xcguy411 4 years ago
You don't ;) But if you needed to, you would pull a track skid.
cryoabyss 4 years ago
Yo as a mountain biker thinking about getting a track bike... explain to me this track skid. I'm rather attached to my brakes. Great vid by the way.
Fatkaty 3 years ago
Stop pedaling, lean forward -> track skid!
cryoabyss 3 years ago
you don't lean forward. you will never slow down if you lean forward

Haha, I broke my neck 8 weeks ago because my speedplay zero popped out going down Bush st. Sucks :( I'm back on the whip though so I guess I'm lucky.

Brenhan's right. Respect the reds.
toothlessBrad 4 years ago 2
its hard for people in cars to respect cyclists when they see us do some of those crazy things
brenhan 4 years ago 2
Hard for me to respect drivers who talk on cell phones, idle at train crossings, commute to the city in SUV's and generally don't pay attention.
