I still hear Rock N Roll in this song or songs like Shine by Collective Soul. Rock N Roll is not dead. Music has just developed and sound has just progressed in the last 50 years from Mono to Stereo. Digital has preserved sound from the lost of those old worn out Analog Vinyl Records. The only thing that is debateable about Music is too much using of Auto-tune. Auto-tune like Lip-syncing should only be used limitly. Auto-tune is over used today. That is the great abuse of the Music industry.
You see what killed Rock and Roll is technology. Anyone with any type of musical talent can buy a music program for fifty bucks, go to their computer and create a 3 minute song, put a good voice behind it with good lyrics, and pow...you got a pop song in the makings. You don't need the musicanship of guitars, amps, drums, bass, keyboard, etc. when you got all that in a music program. Plus, people got tired of the drugs and suicide with Rock by the mid 90's. Drugs became uncool by then.
Rock and Roll is dead for sure. I can't recall the last time there was a true rock star since Kurt Cobain. Look at at the Top 100 on the Billboard charts and tell me how many "rock bands" you can find in the top 20? One maybe? And for all of you guys and girls that say open your eyes and check out the new rock bands coming out, open your eyes and check out new classical composers that came out with new classical arrangements. It don't matter anymore, it ain't "popular" with the mainstream.

Shortly after this song, Prince released a b-side called "Rock 'N' Roll Is Alive (And It Lives In Minneapolis)" for the single "Gold" from his album "The Gold Experience album". Prince is one of Lenny's major influences and I think they are friendly.

That song was completely misunderstood. A lot of people don't take [the song] that one layer deeper--they hear the title and chorus and take it at face value. They think I'm being serious when actually I'm a very big clown. But you have to know me to see that. I'm constantly cracking up and cracking everybody else around me up. People see my photos and think I labor over my image and I'm this cool, brooding artist. But I'm just having fun with it.

I still hear Rock N Roll in this song or songs like Shine by Collective Soul. Rock N Roll is not dead. Music has just developed and sound has just progressed in the last 50 years from Mono to Stereo. Digital has preserved sound from the lost of those old worn out Analog Vinyl Records. The only thing that is debateable about Music is too much using of Auto-tune. Auto-tune like Lip-syncing should only be used limitly. Auto-tune is over used today. That is the great abuse of the Music industry.

You see what killed Rock and Roll is technology. Anyone with any type of musical talent can buy a music program for fifty bucks, go to their computer and create a 3 minute song, put a good voice behind it with good lyrics, and pow...you got a pop song in the makings. You don't need the musicanship of guitars, amps, drums, bass, keyboard, etc. when you got all that in a music program. Plus, people got tired of the drugs and suicide with Rock by the mid 90's. Drugs became uncool by then.

Look at at the Top 100 on the Billboard charts and tell me how many "rock bands" you can find in the top 20? One maybe? And for all of you guys and girls that say open your eyes and check out the new rock bands coming out, open your eyes and check out new classical composers that came out with new classical arrangements. It don't matter anymore, it ain't "popular" with the mainstream.

Lenny's "Circus" album is a little dark, but very underrated. I heard him talk about the lyrics to this song in an interview once. He elaborated something that the rock and roll cliches are dead, not the music. Shortly after this song, Prince released a b-side called "Rock 'N' Roll Is Alive (And It Lives In Minneapolis)" for the single "Gold" from his album "The Gold Experience album". Prince is one of Lenny's major influences and I think they are friendly.
