  • Beautiful,so much feeling.

  • I moved to Wellies a year ago from sunny Sydney. It's been the hardest year of my life but my discovery of the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra has got me through. Every time I miss home I play some of their music and it brings me back to what I like about living in NZ. Great video. Thanks.

  • Brilliant from start to finish. 5 stars at least.

  • whenever Ive had one of those nightmare weeks, when it all turns to custard, pear shaped, raining meteors on my dinosaur hide, I watch this and it makes me crack a smile again. Thanks to your clever use of rhubarb crumble (? with hundreds and thousands) and Midnight Expresso and the ineffable Age and the soaring crescendos of the Wgtn Uke Maestros.

  • OH, WOW!

  • This video makes me happy every time I see it. I love the editing!

  • WOW THIS IS TOO COOL!!! THANK YOU... Beautiful playing, beautiful song... everything. It's a heartache.... a good one!

  • That was really nice. Very well done indeed.

  • YEAH. I LOVE NEW ZEALAND. I LOVE YOU.

  • oh wow love the clock in the end...where'd you get it?

and also, your version is fabulous and so is the video!

  • It looks a bit like a clock - but its a fortune telling machine. You put a coin in (like the one he finds on the floor) and it tells your future

  • @TCapperKeyTapper

oh that's so nice :) thanks

  • Don't know any of you folk, but it made me cry anyway..

  • Left Wellington in 1989, this makes me miss the place. Reminds me when Courtenay Place was the dark dingy part of town and where I used to get dodgy hot dogs from the hot dog house at 3 or 4am in the morning. I hear it rocks now. Reminds me of the Oriental Bay band rotunda without the Restaurant on top. Reminds me of the Mexican Cantina on a Sunday night, sitting on the steps out front waiting for a table. A very Wgtn version of this song. Reminds me of Hadlee at the Basin. Good one.

  • Nice!!!! One.!!!!

  • This is Brilliant!

  • i LOVE that he got some pie in the end! i almost cried.

  • Kent Tce! Great orchestra! Great place! Don´t know how they managed to get all that peole inside De Luxe! I miss that place so much! Hope they play again there when I´m back in NZ!

  • Love it. What a great version of this song. And done so typically "Kiwi"!

  • It's about Pie... I LOVE IT!

  • Age Pryor, what a legend!

    They all rock

  • Gemma Gracewood is my hero

  • So glad the apple and rhubarb tart was enjoyed in the end - what longing looks! I keep on coming back too - wonderful music, tremendous video - thanks!

  • I love the Ukelele, it has great cultural ties with my homeland, Portugal. The ukelele is the hawaiian version of an instrument introduced by portuguese emigrants, the "cavaquinho". And I love them both! What a great song and orchestra, good on'ya NZ! Going to visit you soon..

  • I love the ukelele, and it is an instrument with very strong ties to my homeland, Portugal. The Ukelele is actually an instrument intruduced to Hawaii by Portuguese migrants, the "cavaquinho", and I love them both!

  • I love this song to bits! I started playing the uke because of it:) Thanks to the WIUO for being so brilliant and to T Capper for making this beautiful vid and posting it here :D

  • fantastic, thanks

  • So creative and well done!

  • Superb!

  • I cant help it, I keep coming back...its like custard square..you cant resist..it...We saw them live at the Taranaki Festival of the Arts Speigeltent...the audience requested this and it caused a drunken chorus to swell from the clowns for love...

  • superb, nay, phantasmagorical! how does an aspiring ukulele expert join such a group as this? im serious, i want to join. it would give me an excuse to move to new zealand.

  • soo touching , amazing storey

    Coungratulations!

  • who directed the video?

  • Me.

I'd also just like to thank everyone for their lovely comments about the video and about the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra. We really enjoyed making it and bringing a smile to your day.

    Tim Capper, Director

  • @TCapperKeyTapper Well, sir, I've been a big fan of the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra for about 2 1/2 yrs. It was a yr before I discovered Bret was a member of the troop.

This song is powerful in about 900 ways I cannot grasp. I was a tot when Bonnie Tyler released it, and Id hear it on my Mom's AM car radio. The song, The WIUO, Mr. Capper and that Wonderfully Warm looking gathering of smiling faces all bring tears to my eyes and make me think NZ much closer to heaven than Kansas.

  • Outstanding !!.

What a GR8 venue for the shoot The Deluxe Cafe'.

  • Deutsch: Wie schön das ist. Sehr gut gemacht

English: It's a heartache. And very well done.

  • greatGREATGREATGREAT!

i wanna cry!! BIG TALENT! CREATIVE!!

    BRILLIANT!!

what a peaceful, sweet harmonies..:)) A MILLION STAR!

  • So pretty!! Where do you think I could find the chords and lyrics for this song??

  • Just amazing

  • They looks so awesomely happy

  • good for the soul that stuff

  • Just saw these guys live.

    Awesome!

  • Why don't they have 6 rating stars for videos like this?

  • Is Bret McKenzie the guy on the cello-like thing??

  • I don't think so. They have someone in the front row with a Bret mask on, which suggests he wasn't available for this video. He usually palys the uke for these guys, not the double bass anyway

  • For rini6 - no, but it's his 'face on a stick' far left! Guess he was away that day! :o)

  • yuss!

  • Lovely! Just lovely.

  • Nice song, beautiful vid.

  • That blonde girl IS a bit pretty

  • Best version of the song ever. A little raw, a little edgy. Perfect for the words. And the ukulele playing is marvelous.

  • Thanks you to this site I have become a fan of the Ukulele and of the orchestra.

    Great video!

  • What a great rendition of this song! I heard the original when I was a teenager and I liked it. But this version is very special.

  • i love this song and ukuleleS!!!!!!!!!! im learning it a school at the moment its so cool cant wait to get my own!!!!!

  • cool. does anyone know what kind of resonator uke the soloist is playing?

  • figured it out. Beltona. now I just need to get one.

  • Beautiful. How I miss the spontaneous singing and harmony of NZ. I played the uke as a kid.

  • The WIUO now has a growing fan base in Cairo, Egypt, thanks to my Kiwi pal, Lynsay. MORE! MORE! Oh how I miss the sound of the Pacific Islands! I'm gonna share it with all my cool students and spread the sweet, sweet sounds they make. When will we see a vid of "Ruby"?

  • Ukelele in NZ rocks!! Maori & Pacific sound mixed with NZ GSOH!!

  • so beautiful.

  • This vid wins!

  • Where can I buy there cd's??????

  • This is great love the sound of the Ukulele

  • They're playing tonight (20.12.08) at Bodega in Wellington. I'll be there!

  • I worked with Carmel at my second job. Always a top lady. Glad to see some more fun. Keep it coming. xxx

  • When my wife and I were in NZ working on the lord of the rings set we took a drive through the countryside. It was absolutely breathtaking. Coming from an Alaskan, thats a true compliment. On our way back our rental broke down and this nice older couple took us into their home while we waited for a tow. Beautiful people deserve a beautiful country.

  • This is gorgeous.

  • Well thats very kind of you to say. I've asked the guys and gals around here and we've decided that you're always welcome back

  • You're aces baby.

  • What marvelous singing and playing!

The video is a captivating piece of art.

    Salute!

  • Girls, Ukes, Pie, Jeff Lynne, this has everything!

  • Except beavers.

  • That's it, I am moving to NZ. Great music, humor, good deli, what more could I need?

  • Don't forget; the best coffee, wine and honey in the world, and its the land of gorgeous womanly hips. But shhhh. DOn't tell everyone. Its our little secret.

  • But don't you have wombats and fruitbats or some such?

  • Nah mate. That's our weird Aussie Neighbours. No snakes, nothing poisonous. And we have lamingtons.

  • What the hell is a lamington?. But you do have kiwis, right? Aren't they vicious? Here in New Hamsphire USA we need only contend with moose, black bear and fisher cats.

  • A lamington is like a beaver.

  • Only cuter.

  • What? Lamintons are edible. Does that mean you eat beavers? (I'm leaving myself wide open here...)

  • flagged as inappropriate

  • Kiwis can be vicious. But only when you confuse them with Australians or steal their lamington.

  • absolute quality,

and it that jeff lynne from ELO at 1:10

  • Yup. Alive and well and living in NZ!

  • Yeah - he lives on my street!

  • Who is that stunning brunette sweety serving cake at the counter?

  • Clearly the most talented dish washer in NZ - outstanding.

  • Kiwis just do it better.

    WIEO are legends!!!

  • fsaggootoa gud!

(French for moderate (politically moderate(that is)))

  • So beautiful.

  • very nice indeed

  • Oh yay, I love it!

  • Sweet.

  • I shed a tear

  • Aw shucks... that was loverly!

  • Lovely lovely. What a devastating solo by Mr Pryor.

  • Aw, that was flawless! Made me all misty-eyed! Uke players are such romantics.

  • Apple and rhubarb! You break my heart!

  • damn good! Sweet harmonies and cool bass/uke-combo. Love it! 5*

  • :( x roxanne shed a little tear x

  • Ha that was really cool.

I want to see this band live some time.

  • Excellent.

  • I want pie.

  • I want a damn savory muffin! I see them on the counter!

  • Whos the hot blonde chick at the counter? Smokin hot.
