Crazy Man Crazy! I just discovered you, pal. Fantastic Rockabilly! I thought at first you were an American 1950s artist that I somehow missed. Keep up the fine work. I dig your Guitar Boogie Special as well. Thank you.
To put this song in its proper light...the Original Version by junior Parker was Blues...the Flip side Love My baby was an Up Tempo Tune. at some Point in time in 1955 somebody combined the 2 and thus Elvis Presley's Version was Born. to do this song Justice, you must record Love My Baby.
@sunrecords56 Hey. Junior Parker's Original was R&B and not straight Blues (and pretty lame at that as most of his efforts on SUN was, compared to Elvis, Hayden Thompson, etc.) & "Mystery Train" was a COMBINED effort of Elvis, Scotty Moore, Bill Black and Johnny Bernero (on drums) with no one else involved!! My old (and sadly missed) friend Sam Phillips did confirm this to me ages ago!! And, yes, I have recorded "Love My Baby" in 3 different versions that'll make the Original sound like..well..
@Ollischniepel Hey, dude! Please don't mix me up with the common copycat, impersonator, revival jive! Truth is, I don't sound like nobody else but myself!! Don't get me wrong, I like ole Sleepy (mainly from his early days on Dixie and Starday!) and if you find any resemblance between the two of us that's pure coincidental, believe me!! The ONLY version worth mentioning in my book of "Mystery Train" is Elvis' '55 KNOCKOUT SUN raver!! No need to step on holy ground, so I made it my own! Hank C...
Thanks a lot, Dave! Well, better late than never, ha, ha! I hope to be able to upload some new stuff soon! I've been totally occupied by other matters the last couple of months and I've just updated my entire computer set-up, which will take some time to go through! Cost me a fortune, but I had to have the best there is, so...And, before I run out of space...THANKS (as usual!) for the flattering comments! You should know by now that I treasure it immensely!!!! Stay wild, buddy!! Hank C...
what a beauty.......the sheer exuberance and freedom this huge animal exudes brings joy to the heart. You can almost smell the steam, and the coal being stoked.......and it compliments this great song and singer too.
Thanks a lot Rosie! As usual I've (burnette44 = Hank C. Burnette) not made a cover of the greatest version ever of this classic, which was done by Elvis on SUN, simply because I 'hate' all the cover/revival/karaoke trends that's goin' on all over the place! And if you give me a chance to brag a bit more (lol!) I might add that I also handle all the instruments, vocal, production and sound on this one (as I do on ALL recordings I make, always have!). All the best & have a great Holiday! Hank C.
Why not go ahead "and brag." Its brilliant what you've done., and very clever. You got it just right with the music tying in with the movement of the train....one compliments the other. I will have to look at your other videos now.
And Elvis WAS the best with these old classics. How can anyone re-create the same raw music with all the modern equipment they use nowadays?
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Its much appreciated. Rosie
Thanks Rosie, you've just made my day!! And talkin' about 'modern equipment', my biggest hit, "Spinnin' Rock Boogie', was recorded in my parents makeshift garage on an old Tandberg reel-to-reel machine, using a 1960 Hagström 'plank', a mid '60s Supro lap steel and a German made snare drum with an attched cymbal the size of a 'normal' dinner plate!! Has sold close to 9 million copies world wide and was also released on the SUN label! Now that's pretty cool, if I may say so?! All the best!! Hank
I'm impressed, and not just because you recorded a record on the SUN label, but also with the sound of this hit. which I have just listened to. Its fantastic.
I also love the video graphics. and photos. Youve got all the greats,
I agree with you - I too think its pretty cool......selling close on 9 million copies of your record........ It is a good record and very innovative - and original in its sound.
Will have to have a listen to a few more now. Have a good Easter....Rosie
Does anyone know of a great version of Mystery train that has lots of train sounds in it? Heard it years ago and never been able to track it down.
