I am also a Leo and Texas volunteer ff and under the state statue there is no restriction for volunteer ff in using blue it's a big grey area on what dps says but the red being on the highest and widest parts of the vehicle are true I also know that it is the law to have the red lights on the outer edges of the vehicle and be seen 360 degrees with an audible siren but this does not apply to police vehicles they can have red and blue in any combination but all in all where brothers and the thin
I looked up the what you said under 547.702, and no where does it say that you can not run blue lights, and it is says "may but not required" to have a flashing red light. It is up to each department on how they want to do things.
Scurry County VFF... we are allowed to use lights AND siren to respond... but im not sure about any law against blue lights.... i run with a red/blue lightbar and red/blue dash lights...
yes per state law in order to run code you must have a minimum of 1 rotating red light visable 360 degrees mounted at the highest and widest point of the vehicle and a minimum of 100 watt siren...... now per your department may have other side sections that they will create for you to follow... some only allow the use of certian colors... there isnt a TX state law against the colors of red/blue so thats why i have both and not just red
F.Y.I. there is actually a state law against volunteer firefighters running blue lights. Technically it is a violation of state law for running blue lights. I am a Police Officer in Harris County and a Volunteer firefighter. Personally I don't care if a person does, because if you’re a firefighter or a police officer you’re a fellow brother of mine. But the statue code in the Texas Criminal and Traffic Law Manuel is 547.702 if you want to check it out.
@JORDANROUBIQUE and to add to it last i check in Texas you MUST have BOTH a 100 watt siren and at least 1 red rotating light 360 degrees visible if you have 1 or the other its not legal
@TexRedneck29 ah. well, my volunteer department never uses a siren on their POV. or at least i never hear them. maybe its just a due regard thing. im fixing to enroll in the department. so thats why i am asking these questions.
