I remember seeing this film on TV in the 80s late night or early morning, not sure, but I was around 8 or 9, and was totally freaked out after watching it.
This documentary film here is a re-make from Roger Patterson documentary he filmed back in 1967. Roger Patterson knew Ron Olson and Ron Olson was the one that even remade the PG film for Roger Patterson in 1968 and the PG film we see today is the work done by Ron Olson. Ron Olson even owned the original PG film. These are the facts.
Crazy. I clearly remember watching this in a theater with my parents during the late 70s. I was only about 6 so it scared the hell out of me. I already knew about Bigfoot but couldn't understand why the film kept referring to it as Sasquatch. That opening shot of the shadow silhouette got seared into my brain. First time I've seen this in over 30 yrs
I was 7 when this trailer aired in my hometown. Then my dad would tell me to go get something from his room...at the end of the hallway. I'd turn on the hallway light and go. When i got to the end, he'd turn off the light and yell "aaaahhhhAHHHHahhh" just like this bigfoot. A little boy would come racing back up the hallway. Back then, movie directors knew how to give a good scare with "less-is-more" and without buckets of blood splashing on the screen every five seconds.
@skepticdude2 Your right & probably my age too. It is easy to scare 7yo's though, hehehe. IMO, all the blood & violence has kinda ruined horror movies by sorta numbing our senses. It's less about the story & more/all about the special FX. While the blood/gore has it's place, it's NEVER a substitute for a good storyline. Look at what A. Hitchcock could do with practically no blood/gore. Personally (depending on my mood) I love the 70's era, cult, campy, cheap/cheesy horror flicks.
I missed this movie when it came out in 1977, to my great regret, because I was really "into" Bigfoot back then. The melodramatic fleeing of the animals in terror, and the ominous, over the top music is great in this clip!
I remember my parents taking me to see this movie when I was about 8 yrs. old because I was into Bigfoot at the time........SCARED ME SHITLESS......I didnt go in the woods again until I was 18........LOL......for real, this film scared the poop outta me.......wish I could rent it on DVD.
@Hunkola I was also 8 at the time. Really into BF, Loch Ness, etc. I spent most of the movie hiding behind my hands and peeking through my fingers. Oh, yeah.....movie gave me nightmares for years. Was always watching the bedroom window.....hated going in the woods alone and was always looking over my shoulder when dad took us fishing. That movie messed me up! LOLOL ;-D
@WarriorPoet01 Damn. You just described my childhood. The 1970s were full of these movies. I mean FULL. Leonard Nimoy, Peter Graves, Boggy Creek, hell even the Bionic Man. They were like Mutual of Omaha meets Frankenstein. LOL. I will never get out of my mind that hairy arm reaching through the window in Boggy Creek. My bunk bed was RIGHT next to the window. Nice.
@CptMystery "In Search Of" with Nimoy always weirded me out - lol. The sad thing, in hind-sight, is that I'd be fishing with my career Army, 6.5' dad and thinking, "My dad's not big enough to save us if......' LOLOL Oh, yeah - after BFtLofS - my brother and I would argue over who had to sleep in the bed by the window - even though we lived on an Army base - LOLOL Glad to hear I wasn't the only kid traumatized by this flick - LOL
@WarriorPoet01 I was also 8 when the movie came out, I had a plan to hide under our kitchen table if BF ever got into our house. I knew he would not see me and if he bent down I would lay on the chairs. I would practice hiding for hours. lol
i live where this was filmed,i was there,i was a teenager. it was COOL how they filmed it , in a REAL BIGFOOT AREA.THEY ARE HERE AND THEY ARE REAL.... cool movie!!
@Feydakin8 I dunno about that. I had him for a roommate once, and he never picked up after himself, so I always had to clean his laundry. I don't know what he rolled around in, but he sure knew how to make something smell like crap. And don't get me STARTED about his choice in comedy! His favorite movie was The Cable Guy and he was always watching reruns old cartoons from the eighties.
That and he always mutilated campers, but the LAUNDRY! God, Sasquatch...
I saw this in the theater when I was a kid...I was always a bigfoot FREAK! that howl still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. This film had a very real feal to it. It scared me a lot.
You can get this on a DVD with the classic "B" movies "Snow Beast" and "The Snow Creature". The DVD is called "Sasquatch Horror". If you Google it I am sure you can find a copy. AFAIK this is the only legitimate DVD copy of this movie that is released.
Just as a quick update, I recently checked a few sites including Amazon-dot-com and you can still get the DVD that I mentioned for as little as $5 and change used, and around $10 new if anyone is interested. I'll post a link in the description to the DVD on Amazon.

3:17 Uuuueeewah! Is that Jason Voorhees breaking wind? LOL. The creators of Friday the 13th ripped off the music from this movie.

The call of the Sasquach on 3:17 is supose too be genuine. On Insearch of with Leonard Nimoy, they analyzed the sound.

I love the documentary footage that sasquatch contributed from his private 16 mm camera. Kind of a sweet gesture toward the filmmakers.

I was 12 when this came out - that scream at the end of the TV commercial freaked me out. Not as much as the Beyond The Door commercial, but close.
